George Clooney’s sister-in-law faces new drink-driving charge in Singapore
By WONG PEI TING

SINGAPORE — The sister-in-law of Hollywood actor George Clooney is facing another drink-driving charge in Singapore, six years after she was convicted of the same.

Tala Alamuddin Le Tallec, 47, a Singapore permanent resident, was allegedly driving along Holland Road towards the direction of Ulu Pandan on May 14 this year although she was drunk.

She apparently did so without a driving licence and without the consent of the car’s owner to use the vehicle.

When caught at around 2.30am, she reportedly had 95 micrograms of alcohol in 100 millilitres of her breath, which exceeded the prescribed limit of 35 micrograms of alcohol.

These were stated in court documents obtained by TODAY on Thursday (Aug 15), as she returned to the State Courts to seek approval to leave the country for work purposes.

She owns a fashion brand called Totally Tala.

Le Tallec is the older sister of Mrs Amal Clooney, a human rights lawyer who married the American actor in 2014.

She lives in Singapore with her husband, Lebanese businessman Nagi Hamiyeh, who heads the investment and consumer division at state investment firm Temasek Holdings.

Le Tallec was convicted of drink driving before on April 15, 2013.

In the recent case, she also faces charges for driving without a Singapore Class 3 driving licence and without valid insurance coverage, and using the car without having the consent of the owner or other lawful authority.

If convicted of the repeat offence of drink driving, she could be jailed up to 12 months and fined between S$3,000 and S$10,000. She could also be subjected to a longer driving ban, or banned from holding or obtaining a driving licence for at least 12 months, unless the court see fit to waive it for a special reason.

On Thursday, the court granted her permission to leave Singapore for work in Bali, Indonesia, between Aug 23 and Sept 3.

Court records showed that she had earlier been given permission to head to Italy and the United Kingdom from July 13 to Aug 5 for work.

Le Tallec remains out on a bail totalling S$20,000.

She will return to court on Sept 19 for a further mention of her case.

There's another edition of the story in the Straits Times and apparently she has two children now and it's not clear who her current husband is, but the charges don't bode well for her - and Singapore's laws are pretty strict.

You’re right PAN. These charges against Tala don’t bode well for her. I’d be scared to death being in a foreign country with possible jail time hanging over my head! Really stupid on her part. Wonder if she has a drinking problem? Hope she has a great lawyer!

Amazing place but draconian laws in everything including litter dropping.

Donald Trump is notorious for name calling, mocking and delivering low blows to his adversaries.
But in an unprecedented jab at a protester Thursday night, the president said in front of a revved up crowed in New Hampshire: 'That guy's got a serious weight problem. Go home, start exercising.'
And mere seconds after the president ordered to 'get him out of here,' Trump returned to the teleprompter to tell the crowd: 'Our movement is built on love'.
But Trump appears to be throwing stones at glass houses, considering he himself is medically obese, standing 6ft 3in and tipping the scale at 243lbs - four pounds more than his physical examination the year prior.

Trump - who notoriously loves fast food - was officially deemed obese in February after a physical examination found he weighed 243lbs, standing at 6ft 3in
He gained four pounds, instead, after failing to 'religiously' follow it, his physical revealed in February.
The president is known for indulging in greasy fast food including KFC and McDonald's.
And in typical Trump fashion, he continued Thursday's rally with searing attacks on into his political opponents.
He blasted the Green New Deal and Democrats competing for his job in the opening minutes of the Manchester rally.
The president has held back at times on unleashing on the group but revived slams on Elizabeth Warren for her native American heritage scandal 'Pocahontas' and 'Sleepy Joe Biden' for his small crowds and lagging campaign schedule.
'What about a Sleepy Joe Biden rally? Right? Boy, he's made some beauties. I sort of hope it's him. I don't mind any of them. You got Pocahontas, who's rising. You've got Kamala. Kamala is falling. You got Beto. Beto is like gone,' he said, whirling his finger.
The president said: 'I don't know that it matters. But whoever it is, different, different people. But I don't know, I think Sleepy Joe may be able to limp across the finish line. Might be. But today they announced that they’re going to cut way back on his appearances because he is such a disaster they’re going to have fewer appearances.
'You heard this, right? They’re going to cut way back on his appearances. Can you believe it? If I ever did that, it would be over! The fake news would get us. And we don’t let them get us. And it is fake,' he argued.

Donald Trump revved up a crowd in New Hampshire on Thursday night with searing attacks on his Democratic rivals for the presidency, the 'fake news' and a supporter who he thought was a protester and claimed has a 'weight problem' worse than his own.
The president unleashed on Democratic presidential candidates, reviving slams on Elizabeth Warren, whom he called 'Pocahontas,' and 'Sleepy Joe Biden', while mocking the former vice president's small crowds and lagging campaign schedule.
'What about a Sleepy Joe Biden rally? Right? Boy, he's made some beauties. I sort of hope it's him. I don't mind any of them. You got Pocahontas, who's rising. You've got Kamala. Kamala is falling. You got Beto. Beto is like gone,' he said, whirling his finger in the air to signal that O'Rourke, who's called him a white supremacist, is unhinged.
O'Rourke resumed his own campaign earlier in the day, ending a hiatus tied to the massacre in his hometown and warning that 'we as a country will die in our sleep' if Trump is not defeated in the next election.

It was also Trump's first rally since the El Paso shooting, and he played to a local audience, saying, 'It's not the gun that pulls the trigger. It's the person holding the gun.'

Trump was speaking to supporters at a 'Keep America Great' campaign rally at the SNHU Arena in Manchester, New Hampshire
President Trump returns to New Hampshire for his campaign rally

He floated a plan to build mental institutions all across America, replacing ones he says shouldn't have closed in the 1960s. The facilities' closures, he suggested, led to a rise in gun violence.
'They closed so many of them, and they let really seriously mentally ill people out on the streets,' he said. 'We're going to have to give major consideration to building new facilities for those in need. We have to do it.'
Trump said, 'And at the same time, we will be taking mentally deranged and dangerous people off of the street ,so we don't have to worry about that a big problem. We don't have those institutions anymore and people cant get proper care.'
Trump had said on a New Jersey tarmac that he's pushing Congress to pass stricter background check bills. He also mentioned the mental institutions then.
At the rally, he promised not to take away anybody's guns, except for the mentally ill, and made no mention of the legislative push, in the state where hunting in a popular sport.
'We are working very hard to make sure we keep guns out of the hands of insane people and those who are mentally sick and shouldn't have guns. But people have to remember however that there is a mental illness problem that has to be dealt with,' he said, instead.
He told a crowd, 'We cant make it harder for good solid law abiding citizens to protect themselves. We will always uphold the right to self defense and we will always uphold the Second Amendment.'
Keeping a promise to moderate his tone after the El Paso and Dayton shootings, the president laid off the topic of illegal immigration, barely mentioning the topic that he's spent whole rallies focusing on.
Democrats and some Republicans had called for him to turn the rhetoric down after the suspected El Paso shooter released a manifesto using some of the same phrasing as Trump.
The president was more gung-ho about hitting his Democratic opponents than at recent rallies. He started in on them from the outset and did a shorter bit on 2016 opponent Hillary Clinton, a favorite target of his, and her later in the rally.
'One of them has a rally, he's got 100 people,' he claimed, meaning Biden. 'So this holds 12,000 people. We're full. And we could fill it up four times, at least.'

Former New York City Mayor Rudy Giuliani smiles as he arrives to President Donald Trump's campaign rally on Thursday evening
The president speculated that he'd be able to beat anyone in the general election the other side puts forward.
'I don't know that it matters. But whoever it is, different, different people. But I don't know, I think Sleepy Joe may be able to limp across the finish line. Might be.'
He made reference to a report in The Hill on Thursday that said Biden's team is looking to scale back the candidate's schedule to cut down on the amount of gaffes the 76-year-old makes after a long day of campaigning.
'But today they announced that they're going to cut way back on his appearances because he is such a disaster they're going to have fewer appearances,' he claimed. 'You heard this, right? They're going to cut way back on his appearances. Can you believe it?'
He assessed, 'If I ever did that, it would be over! The fake news would get us. And we don't let them get us. And it is fake.'
Trump called Democrats seeking their party's nomination 'a group of socialists or communists' minutes later  - 'could be, they're not far away' - and asked his supporters if they want to pay a '95 percent tax rate,' which is something that no presidential candidate has proposed.
'Does anyone want pay 95 percent tax in the room? I don't think so,' he said in the 'Live Free or Die' state to loud booing.
He took a shot at the progressive Green New Deal, as well, saying, 'It's a beautiful thing. We want it to continue onward, until a month before the election.'
Warren is also being giving a pass, for now, he said, promising to resuscitate the attack on her heritage down the line.
'I did the Pocahontas thing. I hit her really hard. It looked like she was down and out,' he said. 'That was too long ago. We should have waited.'
He added, 'But don't worry it can be revived. And we're going to have some fun in the state of New Hampshire.'

President Donald Trump's Campaign Manager Brad Parscale, tosses out hats to supporters before President Donald Trump speaks at a campaign rally
Two congresswomen he'd railed against on Twitter that day, Reps. Ilhan Omar and Rashida Tlaib, whom he lobbied Israel to block from visiting, received scare a mention, which kept the crowd from engaging in a chant he'd be under pressure to shut down.
He continued to attack Clinton for her email scandal, though, prompting the crowd to start up one of its favorite Trump rally chants: 'Lock her up!'
In his acknowledgements he also praised New Hampshire State Rep. Al Baldasaro, who in 2016 called for the former secretary of state to be executed by firing squad.
Trump complained that so many Democrats are giving him angry labels like 'Nazi,' saying they're overusing the term that describes followers of Hitler's ideology.
'They view everybody as fascists and Nazis,' he said. 'He's a Nazi, think of that, he's a Nazi. You couldn't use it, now they use it.'
Trump went on to comment on falling stock values, claiming that a recession would hit if he's voted out of office.
'If for some reason I wouldn't have won the election, these markets would have crashed, and that'll happen even more so in 2020,' he claimed. 'See the bottom line is, I know you like me and this room is a lovefest, I know that. But you have no choice but to vote for me.'
'So whether you love me or hate me, you've got to vote for me,' he said of the low unemployment rate.
Tacking on to the anecdote, the president claimed that a successful businessman who he 'never liked' is working at the White House, because he needs Trump to be reelected.
'I had a businessman the other day, one of the most successful guys in the country, never liked him, I see him in the White House, I said, 'What are you doing here?' I said, 'You've got to be kidding. You don't like me. I don't like you, what the hell is this all about?'
He says the businessman told him, 'That's right, we've had our differences .I haven't liked you, but to be honest, I have no choice.' I said, 'You're right.' I said, 'You're right. first thing I've ever heard him say that I agree with.'
The president was hit by several protests at the Manchester event, where his crowd was extra riled up by the president's first remarks since an El Paso shooting.
'That guy's got a serious weight problem. Go home, start exercising. Get him out of here, please. He's got a bigger problem than I do. He's got a bigger problem than all of us,' the president told his security guards.
The man was actually a supporter and not a protester, although there were several of those, too.

The president won the Republican primary for the presidency in the state in 2016. Supporters and protesters mingle outside
Trump rallied his supporters at SNHU Arena in Manchester, NH. He said in a radio interview Thursday morning that 12,000 people have requested tickets. The arena would be over capacity, if that many people had showed.
Seats in the upper decks and behind the stage were empty, though, in the arena with a capacity of 11,770 people for concerts.
Still, he claimed in a tweet afterward that that he broke Elton John's record of attendance at the venue.
Trump held an event in the same arena, when it went by a different name, in his first campaign for president. He memorably called Texas Sen. Ted Cruz a p***y' at the event at the height of an ugly, personal dispute
The president won the Republican primary for the presidency in the state in 2016. He lost the general election to Clinton later that year and is determined to turn the Granite State red in the next national election.
'We should have won New Hampshire. That was taken away,' he claimed Thursday night, bringing back a voter fraud conspiracy theory he's never backed up with evidence. 'We did great in New Hampshire. We should have done great in New Hampshire.'
He was reunited with his former campaign manger, Corey Lewandowksi, a New Hampshire native who's flirting with a Senate challenge to Democrat Jeanne Shaheen in the state.
Lewandowski brought his entire family onto the president's plane when it landed in Manchester - but didn't announce a Senate bid at the rally at Trump's nudging.
'I think he would be fantastic. He's got great energy. He's terrific on television,' the president said in a local radio interview. 'He's a really good guy.'
The president said Lewandowksi would be 'hard to beat' 'If he runs and 'would be a great senator,' if he makes it past the general election.
'They're all saying are you going to support him,' Trump told his  rally crowd. 'I don't l know if he's running!'
Lewandowksi, 45, is widely expected to run. He walked around Trump's rally and took selfies but played coy when DailyMail.com asked him about his probable candidacy on the tarmac in Manchester.
'Ah, we’ll see, right?' he said of his prospects of becoming a senator.
He'll have stiff competition for the GOP nomination. Brig. Gen. Don Bolduc and ex-New Hampshire House Speaker Bill O'Brien are already seeking the position.

Annemarie.. I think this is the site you wanted to post.

SINGAPORE - The sister-in-law of Hollywood movie star George Clooney is facing a drink-driving charge in Singapore.
Tala Alamuddin Le Tallec, 47, was allegedly caught with 95 microgrammes of alcohol in 100 millilitres of breath while driving along Holland Road at around 2.30am on May 14 this year.
This is almost triple the prescribed limit of 35 microgrammes of alcohol in 100 millilitres of breath.
Le Tallec, a Singapore permanent resident, is the sister of Amal Clooney, a human rights lawyer.
Le Tallec was also in the district court on Thursday (Aug 15) on charges of using a car without a Singapore Class 3 driving licence, driving without insurance and taking the vehicle without the owner's consent.
The identity of the vehicle's owner was not revealed in court.
According to documents submitted in court, Le Tallec was previously convicted of drink driving in the Republic on April 15, 2013.
Repeat offenders can be jailed for up to a year and fined between $3,000 and $10,000, while the maximum jail time for first-time offenders is six months.
First-time offenders may also face a fine of between $1,000 and $5,000.
Earlier media reports stated that Le Tallec had worked as an events planner before launching a fashion line called Totally Tala.
She lived in New York City before marrying a businessman based in Singapore, but The Daily Mail reported in 2017 that she later remarried, to an Italian businessman.
The mother-of-two regularly travels around the world, often posting pictures on her Instagram page.
Le Tallec, who is represented by lawyer Shashi Nathan, is now out on bail of $20,000.
On Thursday, the court granted her permission to leave Singapore for Bali from Aug 23 to Sept 3 for work purposes.
She will be back in court on Sept 19.

I can only imagine the conversations going on at Camp Clooney about this!!!! Rolling Eyes Rolling Eyes Lightsabre fight

George: I went through a time when I was drinking too much. I'm lucky enough to have friends who called me out on it. Maybe you should just talk to her.

Amal: I did. But she must have still been drunk. She just kept saying, "Marsha, Marsha, Marsha!"

Good thing Amal is multilingual. She can say "Hide the liquor and the car keys" in four languages.

Sashi Hyman is apparently a high profile lawyer well known amongst celebrities apparently. His instagram page says he's a criminal lawyer and Bon Vivant.

Excellent.

Wonder if she has a drinking problem?

I think it's safe to say that any adult with two young children, who also lives somewhat in the limelight, and not once but twice - that we know of - drives drunk... has a drinking problem.

Just to be fair... it was her birthday,( probably had some champagne) .  None the less- it was late evening and rather dark out doors- paparazzi flashes going off like crazy.  She looked as if she could walk a straight line. But,  the style and height of her shoes were ridiculous- anyone of us could have taken a nose dive.

I’m feeling for Tala... if it wasn’t for COH none of us would give it a second thought, as do 99.9999% of the world....

Drink driving can never be condoned... my Country has done a 2 decade long crack down with enormous success... proven by the drop in deaths due to accidents... and you can’t argue with that...
The one that hit me most was testing people “the morning after” it came in last Christmas and has been a culture changer.... so you pay for a taxi on your night out to the restaurant and back home .... and they breathalyser in the morning.... a friend was breathalysed at 11.30 am and a smidge over, she was in shock she had last drink at 10.45 night before... she was hauled off to police station, leaving her disabled mother in the car. By the time they got there and tested her blood she was fine .... THAT story and many more like it has caused major repercussions in our drink culture....

Tala comes from a family of high achievers both in career and private life... Tala is beyond doubt the prettiest in the family.... but self esteem is a funny thing .... she has a kind genuine smile like Juliett Binoch and a warmth .... hope she realises Being Tala is the whole story, the full package, no Clooney required.....

Tala seems to have a pretty successful life. I don't see why the Clooney connection should make a difference to her self-esteem. The Amal connection is another story, but one she's been dealing with all her life. I would hope she's beyond comparisons by now.

Curious. How do the police know who to test the morning after? Is it just random?

Your right Lizzy .... but no matter how fandabeedoozie AC is in her career fact is the Clooney name gave her an invaluable calling card .... just look at where she has been, who she has met... and let’s not forget Como, LA, and the Country pile .... So while Clooney in no way contributes to her problem.... it has been a help to her sis.... a “help” that alluded her.... and ffs me too....jk

The police breathalyse randomly in traffic.... it’s the strangest thing it has transformed things here... we judge ourselves too harshly..... if your out for a drink you stop at 7/8pm!!!!

Last week I was invited to a fab restaurant in the middle of nowhere, we all had to drive, but we were also invited to stay at the Restaurants B&B... no hardship as it was the lap of luxury.... I didn’t have that much to drink a couple of glasses of wine .... next morning we all met for breakfast @ 8 and I swear I felt tipsy ( power of suggestion) .... we all agreed to wait until midday before attempting to get home .... just in case.....

We have become a “just in case” nation...

Ultimately it saves lives.... now that’s a hell of a carrot...

WWHS, such a great idea!

Let's look at what Amal's big sister has actually done - because it wasn't  just the drinking
was it?

She had a huge amount of alcohol in her system, she took someone else's car without consent,  she doesn't have a licence, she wasn't insured and exactly the same thing had happened six years earlier in 2013...... ..in every other country in the world those crimes are a bit of a big deal if only for putting other peoples lives in danger!

Quite a nice offer from the judge to allow her to go and work in Bali for a few days............

Having said that, it would not surprise me to learn that she'll be treated leniently and there will be 'extenuating circumstances' and sympathy from her defence lawyer, good family, pillars of the community etc.

Maybe her two children were with their fathers at the time................

was it?

The car was not insured and it wasn't hers, she took it without consent and she does not have a licence - aside from the fact that the amount she had drunk was incredibly high........that's quite a long list of misdemeanours

And this all happened on a previous occasion in 2013

Tallec was also in the district court on Thursday (Aug 15) on charges of using a car without a Singapore Class 3 driving licence, driving without insurance and taking the vehicle without the owner's consent.

These are her current charges... not 2013.  Repeat offender... ought to be interesting.   Wonder if Amal will jump on board  ( human rights and all that stuff)- if Tala's sentence includes caning.

Just askin'... if she was that intoxicated, I wonder if she slurred "you can't arrest me- my brother-in-law is George (hiccup) Clooney"

So between 2013 and now she hasn't been in trouble, it sounds like she needs help. All families no matter how rich and well off will have their problem child, just like the non well off.
I feel bad for her kids one is a teenager , I don't know how old the second one is but this must be embarrassing for them. It must also be scary to think their mom could be put in jail.

I somehow doubt that anyone whose blood alcohol level is that high when caught driving without a license, etc etc  has remained out of trouble for 6 years.

PP - You might be right. Either the people around her have kept her out of trouble or maybe she just hasn't gotten caught.

WWHS - Your country's system makes sense - which is why it would never work over here. I knew there was still alcohol in your system the morning after - that's why we're blessed with hangovers - but I never realised how much. Scary.

Whether or not a judge is lenient on Tala I hope this will be a wake up call for her. Two known incidents of driving while intoxicated is enough to realize that at the very least she is making bad decisions and most likely has a serious drinking problem. And if she has a drinking problem then there have most likely been more incidences. There are no excuses.

Oh my, Singapore is strict and this is more than just drink-driving. Perhaps there were extenuating circumstances, but oh my, it sounds like she's in a lot of trouble.
