Yes it is sad. Many people do not come to think about how they are in a hands of one or two person when they fly or take a train etc.
Many accidents lately, it is scary.

I was thinking the same. Too many accidents. First the train accident in France and now Spain.

Re: July Chit-Chat
Train in Spain: Wow, that the driver boasted about the adrenaline rush from driving fast - that's just crazy to put that many people in danger and now killing 80 and injuring countless others? We had a train driver over here who was texting and missed a red light and hit a freight train head on. 25 people were killed in that accident. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/2008_Chatsworth_train_collision
I wonder if the train driver in Spain had any prior issues where he was found to be speeding?
As to Lakin, great to hear that' she's healing but best to follow docs orders and get fully well before coming back on. Of course, it's probably bugging the heck out of her that she can't, I know it would me!! Ha!
And as to rain. We had some over here yesterday (overnight in my area) but it was so welcome in the fire areas. We had a fire in an area called Idyllwild here in S. Cal that was truly awful and they were having trouble containing it. I hope that rain helped them a lot!

Re: July Chit-Chat
About the train.
How a modern train with so many safety systems could be driven at such a speed on a very active mainline? And traffic control operators couldn´t see what was happening?
He was alone in the cabin but surely conductor and other crew members on board are charged with the safety operation of the train as well. A train can always be stopped. It isn't like landing an airplane.
It seems like several things would have to go wrong at once for this to happen. We'll need to wait on answers, and hopefully they come.

Lakin I hope your eye gets better fast.
I wanted to comment about Joan Rivers, she can be abrasive and i don't always agree with her but she said something once right after her husband edgar committed suicide. She said that work saved her life, that by completely focusing on work she got thru that terrible time. i will try to find the interview or quote somewhere because it had an enormous impact on me.
I hope everyone is having a great sunday!

Hi Katie...so you enjoyed a relaxing break.....well so did George, there was the brake with Stacy, the try to make with Eva, a girl with a finger in a restaurant, the dark haired lady at the airport came back into play, our friend Monika started twitting again.....I think Joan Rivers may be about to throw her hat in the (overfilled) ring, and any number of what if's? what can be? and what maybe’s....aside from that you've missed nothing.....Oh except they called a Prince...George.......XXX Katiedot

Two armed men today stole more than £35million worth of jewellery from an exhibition at the most glamorous hotel in Cannes.
They burst into the Carlton, which is on the seafront in French Riviera resort, shortly after midday and took a briefcase packed with hugely expensive piecesOne of the men is said to have brandished a handgun at exhibition security staff in a private room at the hotel before fleeing on foot, according to Cannes police.

http://news.ninemsn.com.au/national/2013/07/29/07/42/mother-of-abandoned-bub-undergoes-checks
I think its truly sad that the Mum may have felt she had no option but to do this - hope she gets what she needs.
A woman who abandoned her newborn son on a doorstep in Queensland won't face criminal charges.
The baby, dubbed Moses, was found tucked in a wicker basket left at the door of a family's home at Logan, south of Brisbane, on Saturday.
With him were supplies of nappies, bottles and formula.
Police immediately began searching for the child's mother.
They found the woman, in her 20s, on Sunday.
She has since undergone health and welfare checks in hospital but it is not known if she has been reunited with the child.
Police say they are satisfied "there was no criminality" involved in the surrender of the baby and supplies for his care were also left.
The boy remains in hospital because he is underweight.
The Logan family who found him dubbed him Moses, a reference to the biblical prophet who was also found in a basket as a baby.
The family has said it's prepared to raise the child but his fate will likely be decided by child safety authorities.
p.s. don't want to upset anyone by posting the above - in my opinion this story has a happier ending, its an opportunity for the Mum to get whatever help she may need -

Re: July Chit-Chat
TheMinis, we have a program here in the States that babies can be "dropped" off at police stations, fire stations, hospitals, churches anonymously if the mother (or whoever) is unable to care for the child. I think they try to find the birth mother, but I don't believe they're charged. I think the reason is they'd rather have a baby they could place in a loving home than have to investigate a baby murder. Some new mothers are just overcome with "what do I do now?" after their baby is born. I hope your Aussie mum gets the help she needs.
I waited until my son was 13 before I tried to leave him on someone else's doorstep. Nobody else wanted him either!!! hahahahahahahaha And he kept following me home!

I don't think we have that program here but it would be excellent if we did - I confess (somewhat apprehensively) that I wasn't the least bit overwhelmed with my first, I looked good (well that's what everyone else said), felt good, he slept through the night from 5 weeks 12 hrs a night (the women in my family hated me). However with my 2nd and 3rd who were both quite ill from 2weeks of age (many hospital stays and visits) boy did I feel overwhelmed from worrying about them constantly and trying to keep the rest of the family on track - but hey you don't know how strong you are until you have to be! Its true I think. Sometimes all that these women need is someone to say I hear you, I understand and not to be afraid of being judged by asking for help.

Oh nothing too exciting. Just back to the West Country where I acted like a total tourist! Did Wells, Wales, Glastonbury, Bath, Weston-super-Mare, Cheddar and visited loads of friends and family around the country. Cooked like a demon (I LOVE cooking) and gained half a stone in three weeks which I'm really regretting now.Joanna wrote:Can we have a mini travelogue ?

Inside job? Tip off?
Maybe...
The Cannes Film Festival heist probably was too.
In a bitter irony, the Carlton is the setting for Alfred Hitchcock’s 1955 film To Catch A Thief, a romantic thriller starring Grace Kelly and Cary Grant about a jewel thief operating in the Riviera.
One expert noted that the crime followed recent jail escapes by members of the notorious Pink Panther jewel thief gang.
amaretti wrote:Gosh it does sound like an ' Oceans ' style heist.

England is lovely during warm summers. Blooming parks & gardens, very long balmy days, cool seaside breeze at Weymouth beach...
Sidetracking...for Aussie theme above, Kylie Minogue is still making a lot of waves for her famous asset at Portofino this week. She 's in great shape at 45 years old.

Have we already discussed about simon crowels soup opera here? I just heard it today that he is going to be a father, but the mother of the coming child is still married to his best friend or something like that. And that she is just 10 weeks pregnant - who makes it public at that point anyway and why?
