Funny, but oh so true! I wonder if any of the successful actors who do commercials ever think that they're taking work away from others who are still struggling to make it in the business - or are they still so insecure from their early days and the nature of the industry that they find it hard to pass up a lucrative job?
As George often says, in the movie business you only get so much time before stardom goes away. He seems well prepared for that day but many others haven't been so lucky - or smart. Maybe that's why they do commercials and voice-overs and other work that could be done by less well known actors.

Is this a joke?! Really? If the companies who produce the products or services want to use "name" celebrities then they have their reasons. Certainly the people in this video could be hired for a lot less. Would save the companies lots of bucks. But that product may not get the same recognition that an unknown would get. Nespresso can probably thank George for making their product as successful as it is. His name attachment and successful commercials probably did make a huge difference. Voiceovers may be a different story but for those celebrities with distinctive and recognizable voices they also have a positive impact on the sale of a particular product and service.
I guess I don't have much sympathy. Wasn't this video done tongue-in-cheek

Donnamarie - It may have been done tongue-in-cheek, but there's more than a grain of truth in it. Of course companies hire celebs because they think their fan base and name recognition will increase sales, but that doesn't mean that lesser known actors wouldn't appreciate the work.

Yes, it's tongue-in-cheek but it's also telling the truth. However, of course the brand names are hiring celebs because it brings them business. Everybody likes a star to be associated with their brand which is something these unknown actors can't bring to the table.
But yeah, it was meant to be a joke video.

It seemed to me to be a good-hearted reminder to the stars and the companies that hire them that there are a lot of talented new actors who could really use the work. Getting into "the business" can be brutally hard and discouraging - not to mention unprofitable.
Back in the day big movie stars didn't do tv - shows or commercials. It was considered beneath them. They also worried that overexposure would damage their box-office receipts. Even though George started on tv, he hasn't done much since he started making movies. He's also done most of his commercial work outside the US, but a lot of other big stars are doing the work that newcomers/unknowns used to do. It is understandable from the point of view of the companies that hire them, but it does make it harder for newcomers to get work.

Celebrity sells....I hope nobody here REALLY believes Victoria Beckham designs clothes...or Holly Willoughby....or Lorraine Kelly....or the cast of TOWIE....or Katie Price...or or or.....they don't....but the public don't understand the word endorsement....Kendal Jenner, a good looking girl...but super model????
I guess if you asked a cross section of people on any street who owns Nespresso they would say George....
We are all villagers living in a global world....but in our hearts we miss the village.....we want to know the name of the butcher, the baker, the coffee maker....we want a relationship with them....so "any unknown" actor won't do....they need to know.....enter George Clooney the coffee pod man.....or the local dressmaker, who sews up gym wear Rihanna.....or the lady that knits Christmas sweaters for the whole village Whoopi Goldburg...or the Mayors(POTUS) daughter who makes jewellery.....
The list is endless, but in our Village we know them all....and we know their story....And we BUY it....
