Great that he's called out the media again...(just checked on TheWrap - owned by venture capitalists).......and given the story to Nicky Finke's lot
Send Graham Norton down there quick !!!!!
Love to see George pulling the Red Chair Lever.

UPDATE: ‘Monuments Men’ Gets Feburary 7 Release Date After George Clooney Sets Record Straight
[You must be registered and logged in to see this image.]UPDATE, 10:36 AM: Sony and 20th Century Fox have found their February date: Monuments Men will be released February 7, 2014, we’ve learned. That date jibes what with George Clooney told us exclusively yesterday. It also means MGM and Sony’s RoboCop will move five days to open on Wednesday, February 12, ahead of the four-day President’s Day weekend that this year includes Valentine’s Day on that Friday. As part of the release plan rethink, Sony also is moving Sony and Annapurna Pictures’ American Hustle up a week — the film will now open wide December 18 after opening in limited release December 13.

Re: Monuments Men moving to 2014
Putting off publicity for awhile probably a wise move. With the intentional closing of the open air war memorials in Washington during the government shut down, WWII vets are not exactly being treated with the respect they have earned. George and company would look ridiculous discussing this generation, history, and promoting a film when the current tone has been something so disgraceful coming from the current administration. Time and distance may help.

Yeah good point. I have a feeling it will be postponed even further. Not coming out on Feb.
Maybe he is riding Gravity for the time being. So much hype around it.
Just my highly overpriced two cents again.

Re: Monuments Men moving to 2014
It took Cuaron over 2 years to deliver Gravity. A lot of CGI involved of course.
To rush MM would have been futile just to meet an early release date.
Giving himself time to edit & convey his vision would be more rewarding. So much attention to detail required. And in photo stills, set designs & props looked perfect.
Release timing is important in marketing it too.
Delaying it further than Feb '14 would give additional publicity at the time. People anticipate seeing it because it's in their subconscience "watchlist."
BAFTAS are on Feb 16th.
Academy Awards on March 3rd.

I thought from the very beginning that if it made the Dec. 18 deadline, it would be a rush job. Not that he couldn't handle it, but I think it would have been evident in the final product.

Lots of publicity here about the works of art recently discovered in an apartment in Germany. Too bad the film was moved back. It would have been so timely and gotten so much free publicity.

That's what I thought too but then again who knows maybe they will find out so much more about this investigation that it will stay in the press for month..... I hope
@Joanna, amazing find. I clicked on the link and got depressed. Opening bid $2,500. If I win some money in the next 2 days I bid Why is everything so expensive
What I don't understand: Matt Damon personally donated this unbelievable opportunity to see his highly anticipated new film with two tickets
What does he donate???? It is not for free....
I want to see the movie now. Too long wait until February. Not fair

Thanks Joanna, charity is a good thing I didn't read that. Nice
@PAN, I haven't find any new dates online. Hope we know soon. I like to know too. I guess world premiers are always the US or London but I have a wishful thinking that it can be Berlin LOL. But I guess not.

Re: Monuments Men moving to 2014
I wrote this when the news broke of the delay ... my gut told me it was a good delay, and that something was coming, as I put it "left of field" ... I have to say I felt it would be something "like this" .... BUT BIGGER .... my gut says stick around more, far more revelations to come ... I still don't think Joe Public would be engaged, as much as we at COH are. Give it time and a tumbling out of FACT'S, that may even bring things so left of field into play as to leave us breathless ....what would he say wrote:I also want to see it... but I am willing to wait ...
There is a right time, and right place for everything.
Also, you can never, never tell what will grab the imagination or curiosity of "Joe & Josephine Public". You simply cannot guess it, and TIMING can be critical...fate.
In any creative process, what you make for public consumption is always a gamble, sometimes a thrilling gamble, sometimes something that comes at you "left of field" ... you just did not expect, but will be equally good, or even better !
George was born under a lucky star ... this will work, he is, as an earlier poster said SMART ... it will work, but even he doesn't know in exactly what way or direction... He only has to ask his friend Mr Cuaron ..... JMO
My gut George, Venice is time enough.... but even if February IS the date ... and further facts emerge, then it will only sharpen Oscar appeal for 2014.... so yet again George, my gorgeous boy has a win win on his hands.....Lucky star my A**, he must have been born under at least 3...

My tea leaves (today) are showing other month than Feb.
I see letters. Only letters no movies. So it means...boy I´m already anxious how many unsolicited valentine letters I will receive...
I don´t know maybe March is a good month. Were there any significant dates in the MM book? Maybe it comes out on one of those...

Re: Monuments Men moving to 2014
Not really, but had to use it now as I haven´t got the memo or insider information and technical analysis model can´t predict exact date when the movie is coming out.
For this reading I used orange rooibos, didn´t have da hong pao at hand. I couldn´t empty my mind of all thoughts so reading might be disturbed by what is called "intuition". Very good tool too. But not 100% fool proof.
So question remains when will the MM come out?

As Holidays Near, Hollywood Plays Movie Musical Chairs]/b]

LOS ANGELES — You know Hollywood’s holiday buffet is brimming when George Clooney and Jack Ryan can’t get a seat at the table.
Yet both the star and the planned franchise reboot will be getting lumps of coal this season: delayed release dates in the barren months of 2014.
Such are the musical chairs studios play during the lucrative holiday season, the year’s most competitive period, when popcorn fare vies with awards bait for moviegoing dollars.
And while studio executives insist that shelved movies are simply being tweaked to turn them into must-see events, analysts say the practice underscores how frenetic and fluid the Hollywood calendar can be.
“People think (the dates) are etched in stone, and studios do try to stake out weekends years in advance,” says Jeff Bock, chief analyst for Exhibitor Relations. “But it’s like any business. There are big projects, issues that come up, and not every one is going to meet the deadlines.”
Indeed, some tent-pole films meant to anchor the 2013 holiday season will be left in the cold:
• The Monuments Men. The Clooney-directed World War II story was to arrive Dec. 18. But Clooney could not meet Sony’s mid-November deadline for a print, and the film was moved to Feb. 7.
• Jack Ryan: Shadow Recruit. Paramount planned a Christmas Day release to reboot the Tom Clancy franchise, with Chris Pine replacing Harrison Ford as the CIA analyst. Now it’s scheduled to open Jan. 17.
• Foxcatcher. The Steve Carell drama about a murdered Olympic wrestling champion moved from Dec. 20 to an unspecified 2014 release.
They join other residents on the island of misfit movies: Nicole Kidman’s Grace of Monaco jumped from late November to an unspecified spring 2014 opening, and Joaquin Phoenix’s drama The Immigrant, which debuted at Cannes and was to be an awards contender, now has an unspecified 2014 release.
Jordan Smith of Hollywood.com says that the holidays have become much like the first three months of summer: overrun with movies that, ultimately, cannibalize each other.
“While this may seem like a big bag of presents for film lovers, it’s hell on studios,” Smith says, noting that the release slate is so packed that “movies are strewn across December like Christmas garlands.”
Not all movies suffer from a shuffle. American Hustle, David O. Russell’s political corruption drama, moved up to Dec. 18 from Dec. 27, an indication that Sony sees box office potential. And the Leonardo DiCaprio drama The Wolf of Wall Street moves from November to a Christmas Day opening, an indication of director Martin Scorsese’s clout.
“If Martin Scorsese says his movie isn’t ready yet, there isn’t a studio that is going to tell him to hurry up,” Bock says.
And while delayed opening dates can be a red flag for moviegoers, Bock says push-backs aren’t necessarily fatal. Brad Pitt’s zombie thriller World War Z was to feast on a 2012 holiday release. But director Marc Forster re-shot the final third of the movie, forcing a June release. Still, the movie managed to earn $202 million.
“No one wants to have their movie shelved, but if it happens, that’s become the new model for studios,” Bock says. “If you’re willing to make changes to make the movie better — and spend the same time and money marketing it you originally would — you can still have a hit. It just takes more work.”
