Family, friends and fans gathered at the U.S. 42 White Castle in Florence Saturday morning to honor the late Boone County native and country music entertainer Kenny Price, who was a cast member on the national hit TV show Hee Haw.
A section of U.S. 42, from Interstate 75 to Ky. 237 (Gunpowder Road), was dedicated by the Kentucky Transportation Cabinet in Price's name. It is now called the Kenny Price Memorial Highway.
State Sen. John Schickel, R-Union, sponsored the legislation to honor the talents of the country music legend who died in 1987 at the age of 56.
Friends speaking at the dedication ceremony included Colleen Sharp Murray and Nick Clooney, who worked with Price at WLWT-TV in Cincinnati.
Nicknamed the "Round Mound of Sound," Price charted 34 singles between 1966 and 1980. Besides appearing on Hee Haw, Price was the host of the country music show WLWT's Midwestern Hayride.
