George Clooney - George Clooney Admits Career Mistakes

20 January 2012

George Clooney admits he has made ''dumb'' choices in his career and is not proud of all his work.

The 'Descendants' actor feels "lucky" that most of the work he did that he isn't proud of was made early in his professional life because few people remember the "turkeys" he has appeared in.

He said: "I've certainly made some turkeys along the way and made some dumb choices in my career, mostly early on. I'm one of the lucky ones who got to make a lot of mistakes very early on when no one was paying attention. I did a lot of terrible TV shows and was really terrible in them, but nobody really noticed."

The 50-year-old star also admitted he is currently enjoying writing and directing more than acting because they feel more creative so wants to make the most of the opportunities he is given.

He explained in an interview with the Daily Telegraph newspaper: "I've had some success at writing and directing, and I like it. It's infinitely more creative than just acting and I have things I want to say and do.

"I feel like I've been given these keys and the ability to drive the old man's car and I know they're going to take the keys away at some point, so I want to drive it as much as I possibly can."

Here's another quote that seems to have come from the same interview:

George Clooney Couldn't Relate To Character

George Clooney couldn't relate to his character in 'The Descendants' but doesn't think that impacted on his performance.

The 50-year-old actor plays Matt King - a wealthy man who sets out with his two daughters to find the lover of his ailing wife - in the drama and though he had little in common with his alter ego, he doesn't think that is important.

George - who won Best Actor for his role in the movie at last weekend's Golden Globes - said: "This guy is really going through a phase in his life where he wants to do right by everyone, and I don't know that that would be part of my make-up. He's caught p in a strange place in his life and career.

"I enjoyed playing the character but I don't know that I can relate to him. But part of my job is to do what is asked of me in the script and not have to worry about whether it pertains to me or not.

"You don't have to actually shoot heroin to play a drug addict, you know."

George also admitted he fears repeating the same career choices over and over and would regard not varying his decisions as a professional "failure".

He said: "My biggest fear is doing the same things 10 years from now. That would be a failure. It's something you have to constantly reassess, and asking yourself what you are going to do next makes it a good long full journey."

I don't think that this is unique to George. I have heard many "stars" state they weren't happy with some of their early career choices. But, in life itself, you don't always make the right choice. But, you always learn something from it.

Early on in most actors careers they have little choice but to take what is offered. It isn't until the get some success and money in the bank they can be a little more choosy. So George did what all other actors have done I can't think of a single actor who hasn't done a couple of dodgy things in the start of their career. I will admit I love Attack of the Killer Tomatoes it's so bad it's funny and George while not good in it seems to be having a good time.....who can resist that. LOL
