George Clooney will engage in a “virtual conversation” with former President Barack Obama as part of a fundraiser on Tuesday for Joe Biden’s campaign.
The evening event will raise money for the Biden Victory Fund, a joint committee of the Biden campaign and the Democratic National Committee. Tickets start at $250 per person, and rise to $250,000, for those who write checks for that amount or raise it. The latter donors will be able to participate in a “clutch” with Obama and are listed as chairs.
Clooney was a backer of Obama’s two presidential campaigns, and held a fundraiser for his reelection campaign at his Studio City home in 2012. Clooney did the same for Hillary Clinton’s campaign in 2016.
Biden’s campaign has drawn on celebrity support, particularly when it comes to fundraising. A virtual concert on Sunday, featuring performances by John Legend, Andra Day, Adam Lambert and Dave Matthews, raised almost $800,000 in small-dollar donations.
Obama appeared at a fundraiser for Biden in June that brought in more than $11 million. Last week, he and his former vice president participated in a socially distanced conversation that was posted to the Biden campaign’s social media accounts. The campaign also edited the conversation into a 60-second ad, called 44+46.

I wouldn't be surprised if he's given a lot more than that, one way or another. I think he'll do whatever he can to get drumpf out of office.

Barack Obama And George Clooney Trade A Few Jokes And Talk Of Defeating Donald Trump At Virtual Fundraiser For Joe Biden

Barack Obama and George Clooney’s friendship came through in a virtual fundraiser for Joe Biden, a 45-minute event Tuesday in which they traded a few jokes and talked of the urgency of defeating Donald Trump.
Obama and Clooney appeared via Zoom at their own homes, and spent a good share of the time making the case for Biden, characterizing the former vice president as a figure who could restore government and “pass the baton forward” on issues like climate change and racial justice, according to a source who viewed the event.
But there also were humorous moments, as when Obama’s remarks were interrupted by dog barking, reflecting a problem that has become ever too common for many people on Zoom calls. Then Clooney apparently had the same problem and muted himself. According to event attendees, after the former president asked him a question, Clooney apologized for it and joked that his dogs “must be Tea Party members because every time you started talking about Obamacare” the barking would start.
The event, billed as a virtual conversation between Clooney and Obama, drew a few thousand donors, with tickets starting at $250 per person and topped off at $250,000, for those who contributed or raised that amount.
According to another source on the call, at one point during the event, Clooney went through a list of how Biden has treated various issues versus how Trump has — i.e., the former cares about Black Lives Matter and the latter has treated protesters as a terrorist organization. Trump has attacked the unrest as the work of Antifa.
Obama and Clooney also talked about Biden’s empathy and decency, as many of his supporters often cite in making the case for his candidacy, while pointing to his experience in government as an asset in knowing how to move policies forward. There also were some specific criticisms of Trump and his administration, including for cuts to the civil service workforce at the State Department and for the “unraveling” of geopolitical relationships, sources said. Clooney has been a human rights activist on issues such as the humanitarian crisis in the Darfur region of Sudan.
Obama also urged those on the call that even though Biden was doing well in the polls, that should not be taken for granted. He made a similar warning in a virtual fundraiser that he had with Biden in June.
Clooney endorsed Obama in his first presidential run, and held a fundraiser at his Studio City home for the president’s reelection campaign in 2012.
The event started with a question of what book each one of them is reading. Clooney answered that he was reading the Constitution. Obama said that he was in the final edits of his own book, but did say that he was catching up on some of Clooney’s movies, including the Ocean‘s series and Out of Sight. But, Obama said, he skipped Batman Forever.
Others on the call shared photos on Twitter.

He needs to send a copy to our Attorney General, who apparently hasn't read it yet. because he's too busy protecting drumpf's butt. Maybe George could get Amal involved in the lawsuits that are bound to come out of what's happening in Portland. The actions there are definitely rights violations. I know Obama is getting more involved than he probably wanted to because things are getting so out of control.

You might need to find a human rights angle for that to happen, Lizzy! And they could both
be accused of cronyism I guess. But by saying that, George is making a very good point I
think

Re: George Clooney To Have “Virtual Conversation” With Barack Obama As Part of Joe Biden Fundraiser
PAN - The human rights issue is there. drumpf is using paramilitary forces against private citizens exercising their legal right to protest. People are being grabbed off the street by "soldiers" who don't identify themselves, held in jail indefinitely without knowing what the charge is. Members of the press are considered "adversaries" by the troops, so they're fair game too.
Being released only on condition that they swear not to participate in any further protest or demonstration is a clear violation of the protestor's
constitutional rights. You tell a thief he can't commit another robbery or you'll revoke his bail because he has committed another crime. You don't revoke a person's right to speak out. Exercising your First Amendment right of free speech is not a crime - at least not yet!
If there isn't a case for Amal to get involved in yet, IMO it's only a matter of time.

.
Oh, I agree, Lizzy, and she's more than equipped for the job. At what point tho, there is no
knowing. Bear in mind that she's already prosecuting the first ever case against ISIS in
Germany, is special envoy on media freedom for the British government, is a visiting pro-
fessor at Columbia Law School, specialises in public international law cases, and is busy with
the Clooney Foundation for Justice, and probably loads else we know nothing about....not that
II think any of that would stop her!

Barack Obama has brought up sex assault allegations against Donald Trump, slammed the president's 'nativist, racist and sexist' agenda and told George Clooney the November 2020 election keeps him up at night during a series of fundraisers for Joe Biden.
Over the last two months, the former president has been dialing into virtual chats for Democrat donors, who pay up to $250,000 a ticket, in a bid to help his former VP win the White House.
On Tuesday, he told Clooney that fears of voter suppression and an effort by Trump to question the legitimacy of the election is stopping him from sleeping.
During similar events over the last few weeks, that have raised $24million, Obama also mentioned accusations of Trump ‘assaulting women’, according to the New York Times.
In conversation with the billionaire Illinois Governor J.B. Pritzker, during that event he spoke out on the state of American democracy under the current administration, even making a loose reference to Nazi Germany.
He made the scathing series of attacks without mentioning Trump by name.

Since leaving office Obama has largely refrained from publicly criticizing his predecessor by name.
With less than 100 days to go until the election, he has reportedly become considerably more caustic.
During his conversation with Pritzker, Obama spoke out about how Donald Trump has a support base that ‘filters out any contradictory information.’
‘It’s just glued to Fox News and Breitbart and Limbaugh and just this conservative echo chamber — and so, they’re going to turn out to vote,’ Obama said, according to the Times.
‘What he has unleashed and what he continues to try to tap into is the fears and anger and resentment of people who, in some cases, really are having a tough time and have seen their prospects, or communities where they left, declining. And Trump tries to tap into that and redirect in nativist, racist, sexist ways,’ he continued.
Obama also criticized Trump’s seeming obsession with the preservation of Confederate monuments during the coronavirus pandemic, calling it ‘his number one priority’ which ‘gives you a sense of what this is about’.
The former president warned that another four years of the Trump administration and its ‘darker impulses’ could have dire consequences in the long term.
‘The endpoint of that we saw in Europe 60 years ago, 70 years ago — what happens when those things get unleashed,’ he said, in a seeming opaque reference to Nazi Germany. ‘If you don’t nip that in the bud, bad things can happen. Among the most quote, unquote civilized societies.’

Clooney, meanwhile, said this year’s election should be a simple choice for all those at the ballot box come November.
‘Like, this is easy,’ he said. ‘There’s two candidates here. One claims that our first Black president wasn’t a citizen, and the other was his vice president.’
During their event, Clooney and Obama also shared a number of humorous moments. Obama was routinely interrupted by a dog barking, while Clooney appeared to have the same problem, even accidentally muting himself on occasion.
According to event attendees, after the former president asked him a question, Clooney apologized for the barking and joked that his dogs 'must be Tea Party members because every time you started talking about Obamacare' the barking would start.
The two men also spoke about the difference in the way Trump has dealt with a varying degree of issues compared to that of Biden.
Clooney made the comparison that Biden clearly cares for and stands with the Black Lives Matter protests, while Trump has decried the unrest calling it the work of 'terrorist organisation' Antifa.
Billed as a virtual conversation between Clooney and Obama, the event sold out all tickets ranging from $250 per person all the way up to $250,000.

In urging his support for his former Vice President in similar events this week, Obama also made mention of past accusations of Trump ‘assaulting women’, according to the Times
Despite leaving office nearly four years ago, Obama remains one of the Democratic Party’s most prolific figures in helping to draw in both large and small contributors alike.
In two months of participating in fundraisers for Biden, Obama has raised approximately $24 million for the presumptive Democratic presidential nominee.
Across a number of his other fundraising efforts Obama has routinely accused Trump of stoking hate and fear.
During a separate event with LinkedIn Founder Reid Hoffman, Obama called out Trump for stoking an ‘anti-Asian sentiment’ when he referred to coronavirus as the ‘kung flu’ and ‘Chinese virus’.
‘That still shocks and pisses me off,’ Obama said of the comments, adding that he hoped the seriousness of what he was saying was resonating through the screen.
‘We already saw this guy win once,’ he said. ‘After he bragged about physically assaulting women — and that didn’t seem to matter. So, enough said. Let’s get to work.’
Obama has praised Biden’s character and hailed him as a future ‘great president’, apparently even pushing back against donors who have attempted to voice ‘constructive criticism’, according to the Times.
‘We have a worthy candidate and we have a worthy platform,’ Obama said in one such conversation. ‘But you know what, let’s not be so sophisticated that we are constantly finding reasons why this isn’t good enough or the candidate’s not doing this or the campaign seems to not be getting that quite right.’
