'I could throw my hip out pretty soon!' George Clooney reveals hilarious moment he proposed to Amal and how she kept him waiting for an answer for nearly 30 minutes

They tied the knot in a star-studded ceremony in Italy over a year ago.
But George Clooney revealed during an upcoming episode of The Ellen DeGeneres Show how his proposal to Amal Clooney not only resulted in plenty of confusion, but left him bent down on one knee, waiting for an answer, for nearly half an hour.
The 54-year-old also revealed that Amal did not instantly recognise the engagement ring for what it was.

'I could throw out my hip pretty soon!' George Clooney admitted during an upcoming episode of The Ellen DeGeneres Show that his now wife Amal Clooney had left him waiting for 25 minutes for an answer to his proposal
George, who was promoting his new movie Hail, Caesar!, made the confession after he was asked by Ellen when he knew he wanted to marry her.
'I think about six months 'til I actually thought I might pop the question. And it was one of those horrible moments, we didn't talk about it, you know, it wasn't, "maybe we should get married" or anything. I plotted the whole thing out. 


'Had the ring hidden behind her, I had music playing, my aunt Rosemary's going to sing Why Shouldn't I?, everything was planned out,' the former Golden Girls actor explained. 
The actor had even made dinner for Amal, who had just returned from London and even suggested they order in.

No detail spared: The 54-year-old discussed at length the detail he put into setting up the elaborate and thoughtful proposal 
'And I go, "Nah, I made dinner!" You know, I've got it all set up, timed out and the song is coming, she gets up to go wash the dishes, which she's never done, and I'm like, "What are you doing?" 
After Amal returned from the kitchen, the actor blew out a candle and asked Amal to find a lighter to re-ignite it, which is when he intended for her to find the candle.
The actor imitated Amal's direct one as he revealed the moment she discovered the ring.

'She reaches around and pulls out the box, and I've got just the ring sitting in there, and she pulls it out and she looks at it and she's like, "It's a ring." 
'Like somebody had left it there some other time! And I'm like, doing all the moves you can do with my face,' he said, giving various silly expressions. 
'And I got down on my knee and I said, "I couldn't imagine spending the rest of my life without you," and she kept looking at the ring, and she's looking at me, and she's like "Oh my God".

Drumming up interest: The star was on hand to promote his latest film, Hail, Caesar! 
'And we now know because there is a playlist, so we know how long it actually took, and it's like 25 minutes, 25 minutes! 
'And finally like literally I said "Look, I hope the answer's yes, but I need an answer 'cause I'm 52 and I could throw out my hip pretty soon!" and then she said, "Oh, oh yes!" So it worked out really well.'
The actor later added that their connection was instant the moment they met. 
'You know it was one of those funny things, from the minute we met we just hit it off, from the minute we met we sort of felt like we were going to be together.'
George and Amal, a human rights lawyer, tied the knot after a five month engagement in Italy in September 2014.
The actor's appearance will air on Thursday.

Maybe it's just a  story he made up.  He's been telling it since, what, the Charlie Rose interview.  Old news with a couple of new details. 

That and the  he almost slept with Cindy Crawford story that was recently resurfaced.

Sadly, I think Way2Old was right in her comment in another thread. He's losing ground and is trying to be more relevant. Many of us have said he needs a big hit movie. The younger moviegoers don't think of him the way we do. They wonder what the big deal is about that Clooney guy. - Or maybe he just doesn't give a damn any more because he knows he won't be in front of the camera for much longer and he can stop worrying about his movie star image

George Clooney broadcast his Venice wedding to Amal Clooney in Vanity Fair, PEOPLE, Hello!, and VOGUE. So, like, not exactly private. Now he’s telling us via Ellen DeGeneres about how he proposed to Amal. It was 25 minutes long. At one point he uses the word “horrible”. And at the end, because it took her so long to process that he was actually asking her to marry him, he had to tell her that he’s 52 years old with a bad back and could she please answer?
Normally when someone goes on a talk show, like, oh, say, Channing Tatum, and gives you all kinds of romantic details about his wife, by the end of the story, all the women in the audience are freaking out and crying and throwing themselves on the ground from all the longing. That did not happen when George Clooney described his proposal. And there are some people who will read into that like, um, yeah, he couldn’t make it real because it’s definitely not real. And there are others who will say, if I were his wife I would have his ass when he came home after that because he certainly didn’t represent us very well. And still there will be others who will wonder if George Clooney is actually embarrassed that he’s doing proposal chats on afternoon talk shows.

George Clooney appeared on The Ellen Show this week to promote Hail Caesar, his latest film offering and probably the first Clooney film I’ve been interested in for a very long time. But I love the Coen Brothers and I love that they almost always cast Clooney as a dunce. We haven’t had a good old fashioned Clooney promotional tour since last year’s Tomorrowland, during which we were inundated with stories about Amal Clooney and how fantastic/brilliant/amazing she is.
I’m at the point now where I think George partially (or mostly) got married to change his branding, his script, his public persona. He was at a point in his life where his stories were no longer “cute,” so he had to get some new stories. Enter Amal. And now he can’t (or won’t) shut up about her, about their marriage, about their wedding and all of it. So, when he was chatting with Ellen, he went into detail about how he proposed. This story has the weird vibe of feeling too rehearsed and completely untrue.
George claims he decided Amal was his future wife about six months into their relationship, a fact which will probably cause Stacy Keibler to do some math. He claims that they didn’t talk about getting married at all beforehand and that he alone tried to set the scene by lighting candles, cooking dinner and choosing their playlist. He makes it sound like it came so out of left field that Amal wasn’t even wearing a cute outfit. Then:

And finally I said, ‘Ya know, I blew out the candle’ and I said, ‘I think the lighter’s in the box behind you.’ And she reaches around and she pulls out the box and I’ve got just the ring sitting in there and she pulls it out and she looks at it and she’s like, ‘It’s a ring’ – like as if somebody had left it there some other time…I’m doing all the moves I could do with my face, and I got down on my knee and said, ‘I couldn’t imagine spending the rest of my life without you.’ And she kept looking at the ring and she was looking at me and she was like ‘Oh my God.’ And now we know because of the playlist, how long it actually took, and it was like 25 minutes, 25 minutes! And finally I was like, ‘Look, I hope the answer is yes, but I need an answer I’m 52 and I could throw out my hip pretty soon.’”

Do you believe this story? Or is this just a monologue that he’s prepared? I don’t know. But I never thought I would see the day when George Clooney would be this eager to talk about his personal life to this extent. Oh, and he says at the beginning of the story that the proposal was “one of those horrible moments we didn’t talk about.” Yes, that’s why he prepared a monologue about it.

The same here. If he had reacted differently to Ellen's question they would have found something else to object about...
