Mohamed Fahmy wants to be played by George

I just found a video on youtube. It's from a press conference, and Mohamed Fahmy was asked by which actor he would like  to be played if ever a screenplay would be made from his story.
He answered "George Clooney" and then talked about Amal's involvement and that he had spoken to George after his release and that he was surprised how engaged George was in his case and how much he knew about it.
So it's also about Amal's work and George's interest in humanitarian and political work.

Well I think Mohammed does look like George a bit ....
so not so outrageous casting.  

Very nice comments about Amal.  And deserved. Mohammed said pretty much the same thing about Amal, and his wife, when he and Amal had the press conference in London after the verdict.  You can tell how appreciative he is for these two women in his life.

Witty words from Fahmy - and an insight into what is really involved internationally for a lawyer in such a case.

I said a while ago in another thread.

I think there's a lot of 'behind the scenes work' on a diplomatic base in these cases.
When you want somebody like Mohamed or Nasheed to be released you work against governments and presidents. And nobody wants to lose face or power so what happens is that you try to pressure them as much as possible through other governments, diplomats and organizations like the UN.
And because nobody wants to lose power you have to find a way everybody can deal with. In Mohamed's case there was a general release, and Amal thanked President Al-Sisi as much as possible.
So in the end everybody got what he wanted: Mohamed was released and was able to leave Egypt, and Al-Sisi is still president of Egypt and was able to speak in front of the UN without any problems...

That's the way diplomacy works - on every level -. But it's interesting to hear how you deal with it at an international level with governments and organizations.
And I'm sure there's a lot going on about Nasheed that we're not aware of.

Exactly, ch. It's just nice to hear it being reiterated in a public forum..........and of course it applies to the nine other cases too............

Really good points carolhathaway.  There is so much "behind the scenes" communications and diplomacy at work to accomplish something for everyone.  On an international level I'm sure it's even more convoluted.

I just have to laugh when I hear one of our presidential candidates claim that if he becomes President he will just tell foreign leaders that the US is going to tell you what we want and those countries will have to abide by us.  HA!  Good luck with that!

maybe this sort of politic might have worked about 60 years ago - but no way one country can tell everybody else what to do nowadays!
Shall I guess which candidate it was? Maybe Donald Trump?
Did you just see the new list of the most powerful people by Forbes? Putin is no. 1, and if really somebody with an ego like Trump will be his antagonist it's going to be really hard I think.

Right carolhathaway.  I have visions of two egotistical bulls butting heads.  What a bloody mess that would be!
Hope that scenario never has a chance of playing out.

It frightens me at the moment how many people in Germany think about refugees: They believe what some right-wings tell them about refugees, there are so many dumb stories circulating that confirm every prejudice. They hear something from someone who heard it from his neighbor who knows somebody ...

In former times those rumors used to circle in pubs, now they share their conspiracy theories and prejudices via internet and find others who share their thoughts. 
There are so many dumb comments on articles that I can just shake my head in disbelief. But since quite many others do so as well there are mostly people with the same opinion posting and seem to think that they are the majority - and I really hope they're not and tgat most people are more clever...

Yes he has similar looks to George.
So who knows what may happen.
