EXCLUSIVE: Add George and Amal Clooney to the list of Hollywood leaders who have made significant personal donations to help the devastation that the COVID-19 pandemic has wrought. Deadline has learned that the Clooneys have donated north of $1 million, targeted directly towards six areas in great need. They’ve donated $250,000 each to The Motion Picture and Television home — where Clooney is a board member — the SAG-AFTRA FUND, and Los Angeles Mayors Fund. An additional $300,000 has also been provided to three international charities; Lebanese Food Bank, Lombardo Italy Region and the NHS.


The Motion Picture and Television Fund provides temporary financial assistance for needs created or complicated by the Covid-19 pandemic. It assists with issues including health insurance, mental health assistance, rent, food and other essentials. The SAG-AFTRA Foundation COVID-19 relief fund helps cover member grants for health premiums, food, shelter and medical expense. The Lebanese Food Bank feeds the needy unable to work, the elderly, the disabled, those with chronic diseases, single mothers and orphans. The Mayor’s Fund for Los Angeles supports the LA Emergency COVID-19 fund to help provide childcare for the city’s first responders and health care workers, help with shelter for the homeless, the feeding the elderly and offering direct financial assistance to Angelenos that have been impacted. The Lombardo Italy Region directly support hospitals in the Lombardo region that are facing the COVID-19 emergency. Finally, the National Health Service COVID-19 appeal supports hospital staff and volunteers at the front line who are caring for COVID-19 patients.

I can't understand why George and Amal Clooney would make this donation public.  Maybe it's from the Clooney Foundation.

Whether it's from the foundation or from their personal finances, why shouldn't they make it public? They are extremely wealthy and I'm sure there are people who wondered whether/what they were doing to help in this crisis - especially since anyone who knows George knows that he always helps when there's something he can do to make a bad situation better.

Their wealth CAN'T make a dent in this crisis.  I think it is admirable to make the donations.  However, it is tacky and tasteless to let the globe know about it.

If they let people know it helps others know where they can give and other areas that need help. Their money will help those they donated too which is what is important.

It's interesting you think given this crisis people have no idea where to lend their support.  This is the time where people who are not affected economically should keep their support private.  To announce there giving across  the globe is TACKEY AND TASTELESS.

That's your opinion and your entitled to it. No one knows how it got out, it doesn't mean they announced things get found out and released .

This announcement with all the detail and clearly thought over long and hard would not have gone out if they hadn't wanted it to. Stan released it would be my guess because it first appeared in Deadline. 

I actually think that many people across the globe will be extremely grateful to all the celebrities who are donating to food banks or medical care or charities given their enormous wealth. It is no different to many of them giving their time and money most of the year to endless causes anyway - and it highlights the desperate plight of many around the world.

Wouldn't it be nice if Mr Trump could do the same instead of advertising his brand at the many serious press conferences that occur. I also understand that he could have offered one of his hotels to New York to help with the bed situation. It might actually have helped his popularity given that he closed down the entire pandemic department despite warnings...............

When Stan, George Clooney;s rep speaks on his behalf that is usually documented.  Isn't Amal's Mom involved in print media?  Maybe it was generated from someone involved with the Clooney Foundation.

George Clooney and Amal Clooney are opening up their wallets to help as the novel coronavirus (COVID-19) continues to spread across the United States.
The married pair have joined a growing list of wealthy celebrity donors who have contributed to relief efforts, giving over $1 million of their personal funds, spread across six different charities close their hearts.
Deadline was first to report the news of their efforts. According to the outlet, the Clooneys donated $250,000 each to the Motion Picture and Television Fund, the SAG-AFTRA Fund, and the Los Angeles Mayor’s Fund.
George, 58, serves on the board of the Motion Picture and Television Fund, which is offering financial relief to those affected by the industry-wide shutdown. The SAG-AFTRA Foundation’s fund is also providing financial aid to those out of work, helping them pay their basic living expenses like food, housing, and medical bills.
The Los Angeles Mayor’s Fund supports emergency response activities across a number of areas — including supplying hospitals and medical workers with critical resources and healthcare equipment, delivering meals for isolated seniors, offering childcare and other community resources to affected families, delivering relief to small businesses, and providing services to the city’s homeless population (such as emergency shelters, hygiene stations, and more).
Additionally, the Clooneys donated $300,000 to three international charities: the Lebanese Food Bank, the National Health Service COVID-19 appeal, and the Lombardo Italy Region.
The Lebanese Food Bank feeds hungry people in need, including the elderly, disabled, single mothers, orphans, those unable to work, and those with chronic diseases. The National Health Service COVID-19 appeal gives help to frontline medical staff treating infected patients. And the Lombardo Italy Region directly dispenses money to local hospitals in the Lombardo region, where the Clooneys have a home.

Since the outbreak of the coronavirus, Italy has been particularly hit hard, with at least 139,422 reported cases in the country and 17,669 deaths as of Thursday morning, according to the Center for Systems Science and Engineering (CSSE) at Johns Hopkins University (JHU).
Here in the United States, as of Thursday morning, there have been at least 429,264 cases and 14,820 deaths, according to The New York Times. At least 7,530 cases and 198 deaths have been reported in Los Angeles alone.
The Clooneys are just a few of the stars who have contributed to coronavirus relief efforts.
Billionaire Jack Dorsey, who is CEO of both Twitter and digital payment service Square, said on Tuesday that he will be transferring $1 billion of his Square equity to his limited liability company, Start Small — an organization giving relief to victims of coronavirus.
Jeff Bezos, CEO and founder of Amazon, announced earlier this month that he was donating $100 million to Feeding America, a hunger-relief organization, in order to help the families who rely on food banks and have been majorly impacted by the virus.
Bill and Melinda Gates, along with Facebook founder Mark Zuckerberg and his wife Priscilla Chan, also recently contributed a $25 million donation to help fund treatments for coronavirus. Additionally, the Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation donated $125 million to help develop a COVID-19 vaccine.

Other stars — like Leonardo DiCaprio, Pink, Lady Gaga, Elton John, Kristen Bell, JJ Watt, Drew Brees, Rachael Ray, and Kelly Ripa and Mark Conseulos — have also given back.
On Wednesday morning, Tyler Perry paid for the groceries of all elderly shoppers at 44 Kroger stores in Atlanta, Georgia, his home state, as well as 29 Winn Dixie stores in his native New Orleans during the hour reserved for older customers amid the coronavirus pandemic.

PAN - You may be right. The article does include a lot of detail that only an insider would know, so there's a good chance it did come from Stan. IMO, by letting people know what they're doing they're setting an example for their wealthy friends who may not yet have stepped up.

Re: drumpf - There's a lot he could have done to help, but he didn't and he won't. It wouldn't help his image because anything he does here at this point would be met with a chorus of "It's about time!" and "Where the hell have you been?". Way too little and way too late.

Stan certainly doesn't put his name to every announcement - hr doesn't need to. That's not his job.

Trying to get more people especially the rich to give would be something I could see George doing. Also, not to just the 
regular charities but different one's.
There would be no reason for Baria to say anything about what the Clooney's gave. Pan makes sense it would be stan .

There is no difference if the money comes from the foundation or straight from the Clooney's it is all Clooney money.

George has always reached out in times of international crises.  This latest is no different.  Not really sure why it matters who released the info about the Clooney’s donation.
It goes beyond cynical to claim making this story public is “tacky and tasteless”.  It’s great to see so many notable and wealthy people trying to do their part to help so many affected by this pandemic.

Trump in more than 18 hours of press conferences has hardly spoken a kind word for the thousands of health care workers who are putting their lives on the line every single day fighting for people’s lives.  If he were still a private citizen he would have most likely claimed on Twitter that he had given millions to a multitude of charities when in reality he wouldn’t have given a lousy dollar.  This is his MO.  This is how he rolls.

I'm curious, if you made a donation to an organization hit with hardship because of the corona virus pandemic, how many people would you announce it to.

The difference between a regular person and George and Amal is simply their fame. What they do gets noticed and talked about. And people will follow suit who knows why , maybe because they weren't aware who needed the help there are many charities that we have never heard of. Maybe, for the publicity hey they are getting recognition I want that too who knows.

There are a lot of people who will be helped by the money so it's a win.

What a very bizarre question, Heartbug. Of course you'd tell people. Aren't most?  Haven't you? But who would be interested?

Not sure you understand the publicity value of this, either. Because when famous people give to charities it encourages others to give to those charities or to the charities they think are
most worthy.

drumpf is focused on the economy, not the people of this country. He doesn't care who dies or how many die. As long as he can say the economy is improving - even if it isn't - he thinks he's a success. God help him if he ever tries to walk down a NY street alone.
