And here's an article about Nespresso explaining how consumers are misinformed on the recycling of its aluminum pods. There are references to George ...

Thanks Donna,
that's really interesting!
The aluminum waste was the reason for my husband and myself NOT to buy a Nespresso machine ehen we were looking for a coffee machine. We decided to go for a pod machine because that's compostable waste. But I also always thought that aluminum is worse for the environment than plastic. We do recycle plastic in Germany as well, so for us it would make no difference, I guess. But for the many countries who don't do so, aluminum capsules seem to be the better choice... (at least if you don't go for coffee pods).

Strange to hear certain things, in Italy everything is recycled, plastic, aluminum, styrofoam, glass.

Yes
In many areas

Not everywhere sadly

But many cities are really good at it

They made a great campaign into schools

So kids take parents and all adults understand STRICT control !

Lela,
in Germany as well. In my opinion the best recycling is to avoid waste - or at if possible - to use materials which compostables itself. Because a lot of energy / oil etc is necessary to produce these materials, and I'm not sure if it really helps to avoid waste...
In Germany we always used deposit bottles which were reused. We had plastic bottles as well, but they weren't very popular. Then our Secretary for the environment created a new system for these bottles meaning that you have to pay a deposit for them as well - about double as much as for the bottles which are reused. You return them to the shop, get the deposit back, and then you hear a machine shredding them. For me this still makes no sense, but suddenly these one-way bottles are popular because you have to pay a deposit for them, they suddenly are presentable Rolling Eyes.

I guess that this recycling campaign makes more sense in countries without any recycling...
