May be a short month but still cold and dreary in a lot of places in the US.
Tomorrow is Groundhog day here in the USA.
Silly little tradition played out in Punxsutawney Pennsylvania every year!

No not a public holiday. Movie was called Groundhog Day. Ha! With Bill Murray one of the few movies with him in it that I actually liked.

What kind of doggie do you have DonnaMarie ?
Is she allowed on the furniture...Millie has adopted both sofas and cushions
as her comfort zone....probably because she was an outside dog before
we had her at 8 Months old.....she was only outside during the day....with her
Mom and Auntie. So she now delights in comfort zones....and why not we think.

You've got three downs to go with the ball on the one-yard line and Marshawn Lynch on your team, for the winning score of the Super Bowl. What do you do?
For what you fucking don't do, see the Seattle Seahawks.

Re: February 2015 Chit Chat
Joanna, I have golden retriever. She is a light cream color. Her name is Zoey. She is already 44 lbs (don't know how to convert to stone) so we don't allow her on the furniture. Except for my daughter's bed. She loves sleeping there. But she never tries to get on the furniture so it's really not a problem. She got a doggy bed for Christmas and she sleeps there every night right by our bed.
You have a Westie? They are adorable. We once dog sat a Westie. His name was Wesley. I can imagine she sleeps with you at night and her being small she probably fits perfectly on the bed. I always find it amazing when you have a dog they just take over your life. The center of attention.

Hey Way2 what happened to that voodoo you were putting on the Patriots?
That was an incredible ending. One of the better Super Bowls I've seen in a while.

Yeah, it could be called exciting. I call it The Super Bowl Decided by the Dumbest Play Call in the History of Football.
I won't even mention that Brady got away with grounding the ball, or that another Patriot player wasn't called for a blatant trip of a Seahawks receiver. That last play stands in infamy.

Unless he was a Seahawk last year, he's not a Super Bowl winner. This year, he was part of a last-minute clusterfuck.

clusterfuck....hehe my english is getting better and better hehe
Anyway to his defence:
Yes he was a sSeahawk last year. Sebastian Vollmer is a German American football offensive tackle for the New England Patriots of the National Football League (NFL). He was drafted by the Patriots in the second round of the 2009 NFL Draft. He played college football for the University of Houston. He was the first German citizen to ever be selected in an NFL draft, and further, to win a Super Bowl title.

My heartfelt sadness goes out to the families of Moaz Al-Kassasbeh, Kenji Goto and the other Japanese man who lost their lives by the human scum of the earth, ISIS. I have just heard that the Jordanian military pilot was burned alive and it is on video. The Jordanian government believes that he was actually killed a month ago. These killers don't worship a God. They worship hate and violence. So sickening. i am so sad for their families.
Sorry. This hardly qualifies for chit chat.

Yeah, I was talking to my family back home about this and we feel the same. Maybe it's because the UK has been so caught up in the 100 year anniversary (if that's the right word) of WWI, but we all have this really uneasy pre-war feeling in our bones. I wonder if this is what it felt like back then, seeing thunderclouds ahead but not knowing how to avoid them?LornaDoone wrote:This is going to truly escalate into WWIII.
I'm seeing all the Pegida marches in Germany and Austria and all this anti-immigration fear in the UK and wondering if really there's a huge difference between these activities 2015 and the anti-Jewish activities in the 1930s? Different group of people being targeted but the same feelings.
Maybe I just need more coffee.

Re: February 2015 Chit Chat
I agree. It feels like the same thing is happening like in the 30's. Just a different group of people but the same words they just replaced "jewish" with "muslims".
When the Nazi's demosntrated in the 30's not many took them seriously and they were only a small group and when they failed to coup years later nobody expected another try. Who thought that Hitler was so smart to find a way to get into politics before the next coup.
If you underestimate a group of people this can be scary.
Pegida is getting bigger in Germany even thought the biggest Monday demonstrations have been cxl because the leaders had a fight and split up. Now they split up the Demonstration to Sunday and Monday. even though you find lot of small Pegida demonstrations everywhere in Germany it is big in east Germany. East Germany was always more racists but this has lot of other reasons too.
But the good thing is you have lot of anti Pegida demonstrations too.
But it is scary to watch.

Re: February 2015 Chit Chat
Cory Booker is a Senator from New Jersey. He used to be mayor of Newark - which had a reputation for being just riddled with violence. During his tenure he showed, time and time again how he lived what he says below.
People would tweet to him for instance during a snowstorm when everyone was socked in how an elderly parent needed help and HE would go to their home to check on them himself. He was often pictured shoveling snow in front of houses or helping people dig out.
His positive attitude in, often, the face of bigotry, racism, anger and abuse constantly amazes me.
In essence "walk the walk, just don't talk the talk" because talk is cheap.

Re: February 2015 Chit Chat
Read an article regarding the need to be on gluten free diet and cosmetics. Didn't know those with significant problem should use gluten free lipstick, as it can be absorbed in the body. Thought I'd share the article...
http://www.mayoclinic.org/diseases-conditions/celiac-disease/expert-answers/celiac-disease/faq-20057879
I have celiac disease. Do I need to be concerned about sunscreens, shampoos and cosmetics that contain gluten?
Answers from Michael F. Picco, M.D.
No. Gluten-containing skin care products and cosmetics aren't a problem unless you accidentally swallow them. For this reason, avoid using such products on your lips or around your mouth. Also, avoid using gluten-containing dental products, such as certain mouthwashes and toothpastes. If you're uncertain about whether a product contains gluten, check the ingredient list on the product label or contact the manufacturer.
Some people develop a form of celiac disease called dermatitis herpetiformis (DH), which causes an itchy, blistering rash. This skin disorder is also linked to gluten intolerance. But although it involves the skin, DH is caused by ingesting gluten, not by skin contact with gluten. So, eliminating gluten from your diet will help clear up DH as well.
If you use a cosmetic or skin care product that contains gluten and you develop a skin reaction, see your doctor or dermatologist to identify the cause. It is possible to have an allergy to wheat or another grain that could cause a skin reaction, but this would not be due to celiac disease.

Thanks for the warm thoughts Donnamarie. Right now, snow total is approx 6 feet. Getting another blizzard starting tomorrow night. Public transportation at a literal standstill. National Guard called in to help with snow removal before Saturday storm. Wind chill is zero degrees.

Yes, I would love to see the press give the same banal treatment to the men on the Oscar red carpet and at all the other award shows. Actually it would be hilarious. Just reading some of the comments from the men at the BAFTAS it does put them on the spot.
Really I wish that actresses would just stop showcasing their gowns so much and direct the conversation to what movie they are representing. It's the questions that get asked of everyone who walks the red carpet that are so embarrassing. I cringe sometimes when watching these shows. We could easily come up with better questions that the press does.

Re: February 2015 Chit Chat
Many years ago I was in my kitchen, which was at
the front of the house, making a lemon merengue pie
and watching snow falling very rapidly.
I heard a loud noise above, then I saw a Royal Airforce
Helicopter fly very low across my house and the one opposite. It landed on the sports field at the back of that house.
Next thing I heard was a man calling "hello....hello"
from the orchard next to my house. I opened the kitchen door to see a gorgeous looking pilate the other side of the Hawthorn hedge.
He asked if I had a phone he could use, this was in the 60's long before mobiles ! So he scrambled over the hedge and came to phone his base.
I spent a pleasant hour or so over a cup of tea chatting with him in the kitchen, while he waited for a vehicle to pick him and his co pilate up. Apparently at that time the rotors on the chopper froze up in cold weather, hence the emergency landing.
My lemon merengue pie never got made !
An armed guard was posted with the helicopter and it was the coldest night we'd had.
So PP, invite them in for a hot drink !
