A (young) Stacy Kiebler entertains the crowd

Well obviously I was talking generally with reference to Lucy's comments which I followed....and thought it a good topic for discussion elsewhere.

First of all I'm questioning why that particular clip was posted now, more than a year after they started dating, perhaps to give the people on this forum who don't like Stacy something to feel smug about? I mean we all know how she got her start in the entertainment business, we know about her wrestling etc so its pointless to me. More importantly George is a big boy and knew full well what he was getting into, and he obviously shows more consideration and tolerance than most overly judgemental people. As far as I'm concerned, although her choices would not be mine nor what I would wish for my daughter to pursue necessarily, it is not the sum total of who she is as a person and GC knows that better than any of us.

No, I can totally see it. Nina Clooney participating in a beauty pageant in 1959 (when they wore one-piece bathing suits) for scholarship money is EXACTLY the same as Stacy Keibler shaking her g-string clad behind in the faces of 50-year-old men and teenage boys on television. I especially like the parts of the wrestling videos where the male contestants "rough up" the female contestants. There's a HILARIOUS one where a gigantic enraged man chases Stacy around the ring with a folding chair, intending to bash her with it. Because you know what's a great (and responsible) way to entertain impressionable young men? Fake domestic violence. She should be so proud of herself.

And I'm very confused. There are many posters on this site who, when some of us criticize Stacy's wardrobe choices, make statements like "well, at least she doesn't show her butt like Elisabetta". Could one of you please explain to me why Eli wearing a bikini on boats and beaches while on vacation is a crime against humanity, while Stacy showing her ass to millions of strangers is "working in the entertainment industry" or "acting"?

Missa, you are correct in that there is a lot wrong with what is classed as entertainment these days, but all that responsibility does not rest solely on Stacys shoulders'. And when it comes to beauty pageants, I dont care what the motive is, how much money a person raises for charity or how clever the woman is, as soon as that woman puts on a bikini and struts her stuff on the worldwide stage, she is saying to everyone whether she knows it or not - objectify me, value me only for what you see. As stated a million times on this forum, sex sells and as long as there are men wanting to see it in all its forms, there will be women who provide it.

There are many forms of acting - everything from Broadway musicals to hard porn. Using the excuse that you're acting doesn't make it okay.

She is certainly not solely responsible for the more questionable aspects of the wrestling industry. But she did, as an adult, make the choice to objectify herself and participate in "skits" that make light of men beating up women. For a paycheck. She is responsible for that. And I'm not a fan of modern day beauty pageants either, but comparing Nina's participation in a local contest 53 years ago while wearing a modest one piece bathing suit to Stacy being half naked on national television is just ludicrous, IMO. And I guess I'm just looking for some consistency in how we judge these ladies: what Stacy did as a "diva" is no different in my mind to Eli showing her breasts in a movie. Classifying one as "soft core porn" and one as "acting" is delusional.

My main issue is that I just dont see the point in continuining to discuss Stacy's past as if it was just revealed in the last couple of days to gasps of shock/horror. It is what it is. There is a lot of things on my list that I would not do for a paycheck, but at the same time I do not condemn people for making choices that are not in line with my personal values. Unless I can honestly say that I have walked in their shoes, what could I possibly contribute!.

Take yourself back in time to the 1960s and imagine what a 50 or 60-year old woman would have said about beauty pageant contestants. I think it's pretty much in line with what the 50 and 60-year old fans on this site are saying about Stacy now.

Were the older women right in their assessment of beauty pageant contestants then? A woman parading around in a bathing suit (or bikini - they did have them in those days) wasn't exactly something a 'nice' girl would do. But they miss the fact that they were commenting on behaviour and expectations that had passed.

I also don't get the whole 'it's like prostitution' thing. Either you're selling your body or you're not. The wrestlers aren't for sale; they know that and the audience knows that. Do I agree with it? No but that's the way the world is going. It makes me sad but pouring contempt on these women on an online forum isn't any way to fix that.

Bottom line is that this video is from about 10 years ago. It's not news to anyone here and Stacy's long since moved on.

And as I alluded to in my post.... not many people have a problem with George flashing his bottom to strangers....in fact they love to see it.

But I agree, what's in the past is in the past, the damage has been done, lets move on. Hopefully this generation can learn from the past and avoid their mistakes. (but of course, like Katie said, (quote/unquote) "it's only going to get worse" )

What I did not like it and find it disgusting in the video of Stacy (many) that are on the internet is not the bikini or thong but his vulgarity! Here are people who get upset if a showgirl strips to make a photo shoot or a movie and then go crazy in front of the picture of George naked and complain because it is not taken before but always just behind. I think most actresses are stripped and not always to make good films. Stacy has attended for years the wrestler that is common to both gender-specific, my contempt for him derives from this: those who can attend a world so vulgar is vulgar and vulgarity repugnant to me personally!

Sorry Katiedot but dont agree with you at all. The reasons behind doing certain actions speak to character. Beauty pageants in those days were about getting education, what Stacy did was about getting money plain and simple. What she did as a wrestler in order to gain fame and money shows what is at the core of her as a person. Its not like she was doing it to put money on the table to feed her kids. She may have stopped the wrestling for now but what is at the core of her with regards to earning money and fame anyway she can is still very much a part of her. I have to say that I think she is the biggest fame lady of negotiable affection of all his girlfriends.

Well this has been an interesting discussion to read, think I've read it before, every new GF. People now a days do things shocking to most of us(me) to get their door into Hollywood to open, are they talented, or what? I sometimes wonder back in the day what some had to do to become a star, that we will never know. Times have changed with technology, now nothing remains a secret.

Since the beginning of Hollywood, there has been the "casting couch," where young starlets would have sex with the Hollywood directors and producers in their offices so that they could get work. They would marry big name actors so that they would be in the social circle of the elite. They would marry and divorce multiple times so they could get what they wanted in terms of work. It still holds true today.

I was watching a DVD on the original movie Jaws, where the actress in the beginning who was eaten by the shark was asked to appear naked to the director and he (don't remember his name) was so embarrassed he asked her to show him a picture instead. By today's standards I thought that was funny.

Yeah, she has moved on from trashy wrestler to paid escort (allegedly) of a movie star. If she keeps up this hard work she will be the new face of the women's movement. Watch out Gloria Steinem. GO STACY!
