Three possible Bin Laden movies? Clooney, Stone and Bigelow consider it

May, 3 2011 7:59 AM

We’d heard about Kathryn Bigelow and Mark Boal’s plans to make a movie about the hunt for and killing of Osama bin Laden, a movie whose parameters and story will have to change if they’re to make it now that he’s actually been killed. That may not be a problem for Team Hurt Locker.

Oliver Stone has optioned material about the decade long search titled “Jawbreaker,” with an eye toward making a movie.

And George Clooney has long held the option on a third piece, The Wrap reports, “The Challenge,” based on a book about bin Laden’s driver. Since he’d been holed up in that compound for years, that option seems the least likely to make it to the screen.

Best case scenario is that one of these movies could be in theaters late 2012, early 2013. A movie part of the 2012 election cycle, perhaps?

The Challenge / Hamdan v Rumsfeld Empty Re: The Challenge / Hamdan v Rumsfeld

Not sure if this one's still a possibility. IMDb has this listed as 'Hamdan v Rumsfeld' with a bunch of question marks after it. Not sure if it's the same film or another one.

Again, George is down as producer.

Plot Summary
A thriller set against the backdrop of the war on terror, The Challenge tells the inside story of a historic Supreme Court showdown. At its center are a Navy JAG and a young constitutional law professor who, in the aftermath of 9/11, find themselves defending their nation in the unlikeliest of ways: by suing the president of the United States on behalf of an accused terrorist in order to prevent the American government from breaking the law and violating the Constitution.
