What a courageous young woman! In one interview or video someone said that it'd be tempting to go to hiding after escaping Isis, as she's still receiving very specific threats, but Nadia's choosing to not to hide. She's working hard to get worlds' attention to this crisis.

Such a brave woman. It is painful to listen to her story. But everyone should hear her story. I hope she is able to tell it over and over again. I so glad Amal took her case. I hope Nadia and Amal, by casting this bright light, will make a difference.

ISIS is the scum of the earth.

PAN,
thanks for the other links which worked for me. The first video was linked with an interview with Nadia on RT (Russia Today) which was really interesting as well since it lasts about 25 minutes.
I'm really moved by her story and am also very glad that George and Amal are advocating for her.

Nadia reminds me of Malala - not by her way of talking which is much calmer, but because they both seem to have an unbelievable strength and courage...

I'm still thinking about Nadia's story, it's beyond my imagination.

And Nadia has to live with these memories, these experiences for the rest of her life...
And I also can't imagine that George and Amal, after having her at their house, just said: "Well, that was an interesting talk tonight, what's on tomorrow's schedule?"
It keeps you busy, and I can't imagine anybody not being moved by this horrifying story.

And I'm sure she told George and especially Amal more than us on TV. That's pretty tough to deal with, I guess, to know so many things - private and intimate things - about somebody, and I'm sure Nadia doesn't want to talked about everything. So it's good that there are people who she can talk to, people she trusts...

carolhathaway I agree with your thoughts. I know that there are evil people in the world but it still rattles me when I hear these wrenching stories of people being tortured, abused, assaulted and killed in such horrific ways. My foremost thought about Nadia is how does she deal with what happened to her and her family on a daily basis. It boggles my mind.

I wonder how Amal has personally been affected, especially as a woman, by knowing Nadia and the intimate details of her story.

It's me,
this is another horrifying story, and I'm sure there are thousands others around the globe...

One thing that always embarrasses me is when people here are sitting on their sofas, watching TV after a nice dinner and see news about refugees, say: "Why don't they stay in their country? There are certainly areas which aren't affected by the war!"
We can't even imagine to live in a country without an infrastructure, a working government, without enough to eat, without water, where nobody cares if you survive or die...

We are able to say what we think, can protest against our governments, can be an oppositional politician, without having to fear to be imprisoned, tortured or killed...

And to say that that's simply not our business is just wrong. Because for centuries we've exploited the natural resources of these countries, used their people as slaves and treated them like animal. So we were responsible for these countries' brain drain a long time ago...

And as long as a war fits with our own interests, our governments still support one party or one religious group and give them weapons - and the result is usually, that they fight us years later..

The Yazidis are an ethnic minority group who live in the mountains of Sinjar, Iraq and have done for centuries. They have been the subject of genocide and persecution for years because of their beliefs (they believe in God, but it's a bit more complicated) and do not wage war on any other religious group.

You may remember the news of many of them being rescued by helicopters from Mount Sinjar as they were surrounded by Daesh.

Here's an article which tries to explain

In Germany we've got the largest Yezidi community outside Iraq - due to the repressions they are suffering from for decades now. The families live very close, and in my town young girls sometimes had problems when they wanted to live a more 'western lifestyle' as their families would allow. They weren't allowed to dress like any other German girl, go out and meet with friends. These are conflicts many second-generation immigrants have from every culture, country and religion - their kids want to live like everybody else, and their parents don't understand why and don't allow it...
