George Clooney and his wife Amal are NOT looking to adopt a child, despite a widespread report on Tuesday. Gossip Cop can bust this rumor, which began with Woman’s Day magazine and was picked up by dozens of outlets.
According to the story, the newlyweds are looking to adopt an orphan from a war-torn nation, with one so-called “source” explaining that the Clooneys want to use an adoption to “highlight the plight of orphans in countries like Syria.” No real details or timetable specifics are provided, because Woman’s Day made it up. Simply pointing out that many of the Clooneys’ high-profile friends have adopted children does not mean they also intend to do so.
We’re not sure why anyone would think a random Australian tabloid would break baby news about George and Amal Clooney, but that’s the state of “journalism” these days, and tons of outlets took the bait. They shouldn’t have. A rep for Clooney tells Gossip Cop the story is “100 percent fabricated.”
The Clooneys tied the knot in Venice in September at a lavish event attended by stars like Bill Murray, Anna Wintour and Bono. It is Amal’s first marriage and George’s second. They have no children. If and when there is actual baby news, Gossip Cop will report it.
