Re: Abu Dhabi Film Festival 13 to 22 October
Not sure why the Hindustan Times is commenting on this, but there you go.
From Hindustan Times
The stars of Abu Dhabi
Gautaman Bhaskaran, Hindustan Times
Abu Dhabi, October 13, 2011
The Abu Dhabi Film Festival will open here later today with Philippe Falardeau’s acclaimed classroom drama, Monsieur Lazhar from Canada’s Quebec. The country’s official submission for next year’s Oscars, the movie purports to be a poignant look at love and loss.
Among the stars to attend the Festival will be American actress Evan Rachel Wood, who plays in George Clooney’s Ides of March, which recently opened the Venice Film Festival. But Clooney is not coming much to the disappointment of the actor’s innumerable admirers.
Lily Cole -- essaying as a boarding school girl in the rather spooky The Moth Diaries -- will walk the Red Carpet along with Topher Grace, who plays along with Richard Gere in The Double Premiere. But Gere again is not going to be here.
British helmer Michael Winterbottom will fly down with his India-based Trishna, adapted from Thomas Hardy’s Tess of the d’Urbervilles. Frieda Pinto has a prominent role here, but it is not yet clear whether she would be in town as well.
However, Pinto may well be at the Doha Film Festival, opening on October 25 with Back Gold, where she portrays a princess. Todd Solondz from the U.S. will screen his Dark Horse (premiered at Venice) and be in attendance himself.
A large contingent from the Middle East will be part of the Festival. Among them will be Iranian director Ashgar Farhadi with his latest A Separation. Marjane Satrapi will also be here with her Chicken with Plums (premiered at Venice), a wonderful follow-up to Persepolis

Since Evan has openly admitted that she is bisexual, isn't that a little shocking for a liberal but still very Arab and Muslim part of the world? Davida-Rochelle

As long as she isn't going down the red carpet naked and having sex with her girlfriend, they don't care.

the world is changing taking new form , as long as there is a lot of money "economic issues " will always be double standards .
i just think that she is a girl with a trouble not the queen of lesbianism her being there won't make THAT big bad effect but if she was on the red carpet with her love girlfriend then would be problem .

I'm not sure Evan is a lesbian at the moment I haven't seen her with any girls so I don't think that would be an issue. She seems to go to these things alone just dressed a little oddly. I'm sure she will behave!

Re: Abu Dhabi Film Festival 13 to 22 October
I feel people (even stars) should make their own choices in life. It was brave of Evan to come out in the media as bi, knowing it could possibly hurt her career. But in the Muslim world, admitting bisexuality or homosexuality is a death sentence. Abu Dhabi is more liberal; obviously they are holding a festival with Western films portraying non-Muslim values and standards of dress. I am still surprised she would not be considered very controversial. Davida-Rochelle

That's not true. Many mosques are open to all, some are open to only Muslims.

Evan Rachel Wood's Abu Dhabi sightseeing to include mosque
ABU DHABI // While one of the biggest names appearing at the Abu Dhabi Film Festival is only in the capital for a couple of nights, she still intends to squeeze in visits to two of its landmarks.
"I'm definitely going to go to the mosque," said Evan Rachel Wood, talking to The National on Saturday afternoon and pointing at the Sheikh Zayed Grand Mosque from her eighth-floor suite in the Fairmont Bab Al Bahr. "And then I think I'm going to go on the fastest roller coaster in the world at Ferrari World."

Yea, a woman can't just drop into a mosque. I'm married to a Muslim and when his Mother passed away I nor his sisters were allowed into the mosque. So good luck with that Evan Rachel Wood.

Re: Abu Dhabi Film Festival 13 to 22 October
Guys, please find out your facts about before posting.
Yes, plenty of mosques are open to non-muslims. You can go inside mosques in: Dubai, Turkey, Egypt, Syria, Lebanon, Jordan and Hong Kong. I know that for a fact because I've been inside mosques in all those countries. And I do mean mosques, not museums.
The Sheikh Zayed grand mosque in Abu Dhabi is open to everyone. Here are the opening hours and more information: [You must be registered and logged in to see this link.]
That doesn't mean every single mosque is open but many are.

If you think about it... if they didn't allow non-Muslims in... how would they grow? Just a thought...

No worries, nobody's mad at anyone.
Let's get back to the subject in hand, shall we? Is anyone reading this in Abu Dhabi and went to the festival?
