Somebody might be paying them, but it isn't him. He's too cheap! Sadly, I think most of them are there because they want to be. There are a lot of very scared and angry people in this country who believe his crap.

They should be scared of him but they don't get it. Some of them probably never will he will cut everything and they will go oh it's not his fault.

I do understand when people are angry because their lives aren't as great as they want it to be, and it's certainly easier to blame others rather than self-reflecting why things went wrong, mistakes they made and trying to change it.

But ignoring that their president is constantly lying, blaming and attacking others, doesn't care even when he's confronted with these accusations and lies and attacks others for confronting him, calling them liars and enemies.

That's something I don't understand!

Carolhathaway - They know he lies but they don't care because they don't think he would lie to them. He keeps telling them he's making things better for them - they just have to wait to see the benefits of his policies. It isn't true, but they won't realize it until it's too late. The consequences of his policies will be catastrophic - especially for many of his base. In the meantime they just take him at his word. Sad.

A Michigan woman was left devastated when a pharmacist refused to give her a prescription to complete a miscarriage because of his religious beliefs.  
Rachel Peterson, 35, was grieving the loss of the twins she was pregnant with in July and opted to take the prescribed misoprostol to rid her uterus of fetal tissue and prevent a potentially dangerous infection.
After consulting with a doctor, she and her husband Robby went to Meijer pharmacy in Petoskey, Michigan, when she was met with a pharmacist who denied her the medication.
'He said that he was a good Catholic male and that he couldn't in good conscience give me this medication because it's used for abortions, and he could not prescribe that,' Peterson told the Detroit Free Press.

'When I divulged to him that the fetus was no longer viable, and that I needed to progress the situation further, he said, ''Well, that's your word and I don't believe you,'' and he refused to fill it,' she added.

A Meijer pharmacist in Petoskey, Michigan, denied her the prescription because of his religious beliefs
Peterson said she asked the pharmacist to transfer the medication to another local pharmacy, but he refused. 
She and her husband were on a weekend getaway attempting to cope with the loss of the babies at the time.

Rachel and her husband Robby were devastated to learn she had lost both twins 
They ended their trip and drove back home where they eventually were able to get the medication from another Meijer location.
Meijer spokeswoman Christina Fecher said: 'We recognize the right of a pharmacist to abstain from filling a prescription based on his or her religious beliefs, but the pharmacist is required to have another Meijer pharmacist fill the prescription or, if no other pharmacist is available at that time, to transfer the script to another pharmacy convenient to the customer.'
Fecher did not comment on whether any disciplinary action has been taken against the pharmacist.  
Peterson's incident got the attention of The American Civil Liberties Union of Michigan who sent a letter to Meijer Tuesday on Peterson's behalf.
'I think it's very clear in this case that had Rachel been a man seeking this exact same medication for stomach ulcers, she wouldn't have been turned away for the same reason,' Merissa Kovach, a policy strategist for the ACLU of Michigan, said. 'So Rachel was denied this based on the personal beliefs of this pharmacist and then also because she's a woman.'

If Rachel did not complete the miscarriage she could have developed a serious infection
Peterson said the incident at the pharmacy happened at her lowest point.
She and her husband began trying for a child in January and they were elated to learn she was pregnant with twins. 
However, complications followed and when she was nine weeks pregnant in June, she miscarried one. 
A few weeks later she learned the other had miscarried due to her having a bicornuate uterus.
Her doctor gave three choices: Either she wait for the miscarriage to complete naturally, take medication to move the miscarriage along, or surgically empty remaining fetal tissue from her uterus.

The couple decided to go with the first option with the hopes Peterson would miscarriage naturally. 
But when the process took longer than expected, her doctor prescribed her misoprostol, brand name Cytotec, to avoid the risk of developing a dangerous and fatal infection called sepsis. 
 It was then that she was turned away from the pharmacist because he believed Peterson was attempting to have an abortion.    
 'I was really upset. I was angry too,' she said. 'When you're at one of the lowest moments in your life, you don't think someone would do that to you - especially to call you a liar and not be understanding or empathetic at all.'

Peterson called her mother, Nancy Bianchi, 57, after the incident. 
'She called me sobbing, just sobbing, and said he wouldn't fill the prescription,' Bianchi told Detroit Free Press. 'While I was talking to her, I was googling the Meijer pharmacy phone number. I was seething.'
'Rachel was not only going through the worst thing in her life, but he was judging her and making her feel bad about that,' she said. 
There have been no formal complaints against the pharmacist who denied Peterson, according to the Department of Licensing and Regulatory Affairs. 
Peterson said she's coming forward with her story so others know their rights when ti comes to retrieving medication.
'I just want people to know that I'm doing this to make sure that people do not have to encounter the same situation that I did,' Peterson said. 'It's just a basic human right. He is a medical professional, and he took an oath to take care of patients, and he failed to do that.'   [/size]

Former Vice President Joe Biden blasted President Donald Trump's 'love affair with autocrats' and charged the White House with coddling dictators like Vladimir Putinand Kim Jong-Un.
'I'm very worried that the president seems to have a love affair with autocrats,' Biden told CBS 'This Morning' on Thursday.
He was referring to Trump's meetings with Kim, the head of North Korea, and his meeting with Russian President Vladimir Putin.

'This administration seems to feel the need to coddle autocrats and dictators from Putin to Kim Jong-un,' Biden said.

The former vice president's comments come among growing reports that Saudi Arabia Crown Prince Mohamed bin Salman is alleged to be behind the disappearance - and reported murder - of dissident journalist Jamal Khashoggi.
And Trump has repeatedly searched for reasons to protect the U.S.-Saudi relationship, The Washington Post reported.
Biden used the interview to get in multiple shots at the president, who he is considering challenging in the 2020 presidential race.
'I don't want to speculate on my worst fears, but either he doesn't know what he's doing, or he has an absolutely convoluted notion of what allows America to lead the world,' he said of Trump's relationships.
Biden has said he will decide on a presidential bid in January. And he told CBS that the polling numbers - which show he is the Democrats top pick to challenge Trump - won't be a factor in his decision.


'I don't think about the polling data. I think about whether or not I should run based on very private decisions relating to my family and the loss of my son and what I want to do with the rest of my life,' Biden said. 'But I don't think of it in terms of can I win, can I – will I lose. That's not part of the calculation.'
The 75-year-old also said his age would be a 'legitimate issue' if he were to run.
Trump is three years younger than him.
'I think people are going to judge it, if I were to run. I think they're gonna judge me on my vitality. Can I still run up the steps of Air Force Two? Am I still in good shape? Am I – do I have all my faculties? Am I energetic? I think it's totally legitimate people ask those questions,' Biden said.
Trump told CBS News in June that Biden would be a 'dream' challenger.
'I dream about Biden. That's a dream,' he said.
'Look, Joe Biden ran three times. He never got more than 1 percent and President Obama took him out of the garbage heap, and everybody was shocked that he did. I'd love to have it be Biden,' Trump added. 
It's unclear what Trump meant when he said Biden ran three times. The former vice president sought the Democratic nomination in 1988 and 2008 but didn't get it. There was speculation he would throw his hat into the ring in 2016 but he ultimately didn't run that year. 
Biden was asked about Trump's remarks but refused to rise to the bait.
'Well, I tell you what – well, I shouldn't say anything,' Biden said. 'Age has given me some wisdom.'

ISIS has kidnapped 700 people, including dozens of women and children, from a refugee camp in eastern Syria, and will 'kill ten hostages every day' unless their demands are met, Vladimir Putin said today. 
The Islamist terrorists have already murdered a number of hostages, and have warned of daily executions to come, the Russian President said. 
ISIS fighters attacked the refugee camp in Syria's Deir-al Zor province last week, and kidnapped some 130 families, including several U.S. and European nationals, who may be foreign fighters or aid workers.
Images shared on social media by terrorist monitoring groups allegedly shows ISIS fighters attacking and kidnapping fighters from the U.S.-backed Syrian Democratic Forces in the same area the day before.

ISIS militants attacked the refugee camp in an area of eastern Syria controlled by U.S.-backed forces on October 13, kidnapping around 130 families before taking them to the nearby city of Hajin. 

The Britain-based Syrian Observatory for Human Rights, which monitors Syria's ongoing civil war, said the families are mostly made up of foreign women, including widows of ISIS fighters. 


Speaking at the Valdai discussion forum in the Black Sea resort city of Sochi, Putin said ISIS leaders had made demands, but did not specify what they were.
However, The Observatory reported this week that negotiations have begun, and that ISIS are demanding 'food and medical supplies' in exchange for the hostages' safe return.
'They have issued ultimatums, specific demands and warned that if these ultimatums are not met they will execute ten people every day. 
'The day before yesterday they executed ten people,' Putin said, adding: 'This is just horrible, it is a catastrophe.'

ISIS fighters attacked the refugee camp in Syria's Deir ez-Zor province, and are now threatening to kill ten people every day unless their demands are met, Vladimir Putin said


The attack on the refugee camp in Deir ez-Zor last week came after several days of intense clashes between ISIS and the U.S.-backed Syrian Democratic Forces.
The SDF said in a statement that the fighting in the Hajin refugee camp on October 13 which resulted in the kidnapping, had left 20 ISIS gunmen and 'several' SDF fighters dead.
Since ISIS lost most of its self-declared caliphate in Syria and Iraq over the past two years, the extremists have been resorting to attacks on civilians to show that they are still effective, the Observatory said.
Earlier this week, the United Nations warned that the fight for Hajin, where the SDF estimates some 3,000 ISIS fighters remain, was having a 'devastating' effect on thousands of civilians.

Yes, his campaign, or a PAC, pays people to attend the rallies. It used to be to fill vacant seats, but now the ads for attendees (who get more $ if they bring a pro-tRump or anti-Democrat sign) go up on Craigslist just as soon as a rally is planned.

I order tickets under an assumed e-mail name, then of course don't show up, just so they'll either have more empty seats or have to pay more people out of that criminally fraudulent 2020 campaign fund. We all know he won't be around to run for anything by then. It's just another tRump grift job.

President Donald Trump saluted Republican Rep. Greg Gianforte at a campaign rally in Montana for body-slamming a reporter last year – saying there was 'nothing to be embarrassed' about and calling him 'my kinda guy.'
The president's outright praise for the assault came at a time of intense interest in press freedoms after the alleged murder of Jamal Khashoggi, a Saudi dissident who wrote a Washington Post column, inside the Saudi consulate in Turkey.
Trump, who once again went after the 'fake news' at his Missoula campaign rally Thursday night, called Gianforte up on stage and recounted the time he went after Guardian journalist Ben Jacobs, after he asked him a question about his health care plan.
'Greg is smart. And by the way never wrestle him. Any guy that can do a body slam, he's my kinda – he's my guy,' Trump said.

Trump's comments drew cheers from supporters who gathered to see him rally.
'I shouldn't say this, because I'll - there's nothing to be embarrassed about,' Trump continued. 
He told the crowd that he was in Rome when he learned about the incident – and his mind immediately turned to the political ramifications.
'I had heard that he body-slammed a reporter. And he was way up [in a special election]. And I said, oh this is like the day of the election or just before. And I say this is terrible he's going to lose the election.'
Then upon reflection: 'I said wait a minute, I know Montana pretty well I think it may help him, and it did,' Trump said. 
'He's a great guy. Tough cookie.'
The Guardian issued a statement from U.S. editor John Mulholland condemning Trump's comments on Thursday night. 
'To celebrate an attack on a journalist who was simply doing his job is an attack on the First Amendment by someone who has taken an oath to defend it.'
'In the aftermath of the murder of Jamal Khashoggi,' the statement continued, 'it runs the risk of inviting other assaults on journalists both here and across the world where they often face far greater threats. We hope decent people will denounce these comments and that the president will see fit to apologize for them.'
In explicitly praising the violent attack by the lawmaker, Trump went further than he did last month in Billings, where he praised Gianforte using less direct language.

Last year, Gianforte attacked Jacobs by slamming him to the ground when the press was asking questions.
He initially falsely told the Gallatin County sheriff's office afterward that the reporter 'stuck a microphone in my face' and was 'interrogating [him] in a very intensive way.'
But audio subsequently released by Jacobs and eyewitness accounts contradicted the lawmaker, who went on to win reelection. 
Gianforte pleaded guilty to a misdemeanor, paid a $50,000 fine to the Committee to Protect Journalists and issued an apology letter. 
In a courtroom he pledged to do an interview with Jacobs, but never did, the Guardian reported.
The close embrace of Gianforte came at a rally where Trump said his true purpose was to try to take down Sen. Jon Tester in a bit of political payback.

Trump called Tester, a Democrat who carves out a centrist image and has ads running throughout the state touting care for veterans and bipartisan support, as 'super liberal.'

But it was Tester's role in helping sink the nomination of Dr. Ronny Jackson, the White House physician, to head the Veterans Affairs Department that Trump says brought him to Montana.
 'And Jon Tester led the group. That's why I'm here,' Trump said.

'First of all I have a lot of respect for the man that's running, Matt,' Trump hastily added, referencing Rosendale.
'Also I'm here because I can never forget what Jon Tester did to a man that's of the highest quality.'
'What he did was vicious. What he did was as they did with Judge Kavanaugh – same thing,' Trump said. 'Almost,' he added.
As his lively rally inside an air hangar continued, and with control of Congress hanging in the balance, Trump took shots at a range of potential 2020 opponents.  
'How about Pocahontas, Elizabeth Warren?' Trump said, bringing up the Massachusetts Democrat who released the results of a DNA test Monday showing a small fraction of Native American heritage.
'You know, the one good thing about her test is that there was so little. She had less than the average American. I used to say, 'I have more Indian blood in me than she does, and I have none.' I used to say it. And I was right!' Trump said.
'But the only good thing she did -- I think she's probably disqualified, because she made a fool out of herself. But I think the only good thing she did [is] I can't call her Pocahontas anymore, right? She has so little Indian blood, she has none, that I cannot call her Pocahontas anymore. But if you don't mind, I'll continue. Do you mind? Because it'll show everybody what a phony she is, he said.
Earlier, Trump opened a furious attack on Democrats en route to Montana and kept it going on the ground – even suggesting Democrats are responsible for a caravan of illegal immigrants making their way toward the border.

Jared Kushner, who has developed a close relationship with the Saudi Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman, is allegedly urging Trump to proceed with caution on any measures that may be taken on the 'murdered' Saudi journalist.
Kushner told his father-in-law to move forward slowly and not be pressured into any quick decisions on the situation with regards to the possible murder of Washington Post journalist Jamal Khashoggi, a report suggests.
According to CNN, Kushner warned that a sudden withdrawal of support for Riyadh could have far reaching consequences, including with Iran, and added that the US has relationships with more ill-reputed countries. 
The official speaking to CNN said that the New York Times' characterization of Kushner asking President Trump to stand by Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman was inaccurate and that instead, Kushner told Trump to give them time.

Kushner has been developing a relationship with the Crown Prince over the past several months and he has spoken to Salman several times over the past week.
One of those conversations included national security adviser John Bolton last Tuesday.
When Trump boarded Air Force One on his way to a Montana rally Thursday night he told reporters he believes the journalist was killed.
'It certainly looks that way to me. It's very sad,' Trump told journalists. 'It's bad, bad stuff, but we'll see what happens.'
Trump said that the punishment would be 'severe' if he finds out that Saudi Arabia harmed the journalist.
He ignored questions as he left the White House on about the suspected murder and his earlier claim that it may have been perpetrated by rogue killers.
Hours before a family member of Khashoggi's - a cousin still living in Saudi Arabia- suggested the writer who lives in America could still be alive.
Motasem Khashoggi told CNN in a statement that Khashoggi family considers the Saudi-born writer to be a 'missing person' and they have 'no legal or official proof' that would prove otherwise. 
CNN says the family pushed backed on claims that Khashoggi is a Saudi dissident whom the government would want to target.
The statement said that the family had been in 'close contact with the Saudi government at the highest level' and that they were assured that 'many steps that are being taken at the very top to answer many of the questions we, and the world have, regarding Jamal's disappearance.'
Secretary of State Mike Pompeo said Thursday from the White House that he advised the president to give the Saudis a few more days to conclude their investigation before jumping into action.
However, the investigation being led by the Saudis likely won't be impartial.  
Suggesting a shift in U.S. opinion, however, Treasury Secretary Steve Mnuchin caved to pressure and said he would join a slew of CEOs and foreign officials in dropping out of a Saudi investment conference slated to begin on Oct. 23 in Riyadh.
'Just met with @realDonaldTrump and @SecPompeo and we have decided, I will not be participating in the Future Investment Initiative summit in Saudi Arabia,' Mnuchin tweeted.
Mnuchin had been under intense pressure to drop out of the conference that the White House had cast as intrinsic to its effort to dry up funds for terrorists.
He had maintained until now that he would participate, in spite of Turkish assurances that Khashoggi was not missing but had been kidnapped and murdered by a Saudi Arabian hit squad.

The caravan of Honduran migrants making their way to the US stormed through a border gate in Guatemala on Friday morning to run over a bridge to Mexico where they were met with tear gas from riot police before being allowed into the country and continue their march towards America. 
The group of around 4,000 migrants overpowered police first in Tecun Uman, Guatemala, to make their way over the short bridge into Ciudad Hidalgo in Mexican's southernmost state of Chiapas.  
They had been forced to retreat and reorganize earlier in the day after being met with strong resistance. 
After crossing the bridge, they were confronted by a daunting force of armed Mexican officers who threw tear gas in their direction and stood in lines, lifting up children who ran towards them and standing firm behind their shields. 

After a standoff, they agreed they would let some of the migrants through and started asking that they form lines.

The decision flies in the face of President Trump's plea to Mexican officials on Thursday to put an end to the caravan's progress. 
Though the State Department and Mexican officials have agreed on a plan to shelter any of the migrants who make asylum claims in shelters, their decision to let them carry on north on Friday sends them marching on towards the US. 
Videos showed the thousands of migrants celebrating on the bridge once they had managed to get over the crossing.   
A Honduran woman interviewed at the Guatemala/Mexico border by Noticias, who did not give her name, said: 'We are going to the United States. We know God is going to help us because we can’t live in Honduras, our country. Every month the president is raising electricity costs. We can’t live. We can’t live with him. 
'We are suffering a lot (on this trip). Sleeping on the ground but it’s worth it for my children as they can see that my country is not worth anything. That president we have is worthless. 
'Can I send a message to Trump? Mr. Trump I ask of you to take Juan Orlando [Hernandez] out from my country. You have him there. Look how my country is turning out. The young people in my country, Honduras’ youth, look at how they’re suffering, kids in coffins, kids along the way have died, pregnant women have died on us because of this delinquent man that we have in the country. … Trump has him in there. Take him out mister. Take him out of the country. We don’t want him. It’s a president he [Trump] placed, we didn’t place him.'

The stern police presence comes after President Trump appealed directly to Mexico to help block the flood of people.  
Hundreds of Mexican police officers and troops have stationed themselves along the other side of the tall fence which separates it from Guatemala. Guatemalan troops are also said to be putting up resistance.  
Mexico has implemented what the ambassador to Guatemala calls a 'metered entry' system to try to control the vast numbers of people who are traveling there from other Central American countries.

Late on Thursday night, a small number of the Honduran group who broke off from the main crowd were able to successfully cross over into Mexico. 
NBC reports that US officials are now tracking that small group as they make progress towards the US. 
The migrants are fleeing Honduras where they say they have no prospects. Many are eager to escape the gang violence they say their children are doomed to encounter as they grow up.
Trump has commentated on their movements throughout by blaming their optimism on Democrats and calling their march towards America an 'assault' on the country.

On the Mexican side, the foreign ministry said its government was in constant communication with members of the caravan explaining the migrants' options. 
It said officials were already assisting some migrants who had crossed and requested refugee status. 



On Thursday, Mexican officials said they had agreed on a plan with the US to establish shelters along the Mexican southern border for anyone in the caravan who makes an asylum claim in Mexico. 
'Just today, the Mexican government, and this is a very important step, requested the intervention of the U.N., the Office of the High Commissioner on Refugees, to help Mexico review any asylum claims from the members of the caravan,' Mexican Ambassador to the U.S. Geronimo Gutierrez told Fox News.  
'That will allow us to have a process by which in our border we will make sure that of serving human rights, respecting international law, if there are legitimate claims to refugee, those can be processed in a very clear way,' he added. 
Pompeo later released a statement to say the State Department supported the plan and would be 'ready to assist'. 
'We welcome the government of Mexico’s statement that they will seek cooperation with the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees (UNHCR) to address immigration issues in the region, including the influx of people arriving in Mexico. 
'The United States stands ready to assist the Government of Mexico and UNHCR in this effort,' he said. 
But the migrants are determined to plow through Mexico on foot and in trucks, eventually reaching the US border where they want to make their final crossing.

A Honduran mother had a few simple words for Donald Trump: 'you are a human being just like us, help us please'.   
Josefina Alvarado and her children have made it to Guatemala and are now headed to the Mexico border before continuing their journey to the U.S., with the hope that the Trump administration will show some compassion in their quest for asylum.
'If the president of the United States is watching, he needs to support us because he is also a person just like us and we need to move forward in life, too,' Alvarado told Prensa Libre on Thursday. 
Alvarado has already traveled 647km, mostly by foot, from San Pedro Sula to Tecun Uman. 
Another migrant, Santos Acosta, from San Pedro Sula said his feet were covered with sores from the epic trek.

‘I think and I hope, that there will not be so many problems and even deaths,’ Barilli told la Prensa Libre on Thursday.
‘There’s going to be acts of violence and it will be disturbing to the people.’
So far in 2018, Barilli’s staff has offered some sort of aid to about 11,000 migrants seeking to continue the northern trail to the U.S.

Iowa Republican Representative Steve King has revealed his white nationalist views in an interview with an Austrian far-right publication.
King, an eight-term congressman up for re-election next month, has been linked to Neo-Nazism and the far-right before, but he laid out his extremely conservative views like never before in an interview with far-right propaganda website Unzensuriert, which translates to 'uncensored' in English. 
He was interviewed when he stopped in Vienna in August and candidly called for stricter immigration policies, said Mollie Tibbett's killer should have never been in the U.S., and claims Democrats are teaming up with radical Islamists to attack 'Western civilization'.

King visited Vienna in August and sat down for an interview with the far-right site which has been flagged by Austrian authorities for being anti-Islamic and anti-Semetic. Pictured at a rally where a protester holds a 'Build the Wall sign' 



The interview with Austrian website Unzensuriert, meaning 'Uncensored', was published September. He was interviewed by Caroline Sommerfeld of Europe's fascist identitarian movement, which is connected to the alt-right in the U.S.
He was interviewed by Caroline Sommerfeld, an intellectual in the European neo-fascist identititarian movement which is connected to the U.S.'s alt-right, to discuss how Muslim and Latino immigrants threaten the U.S. and Europe.

The interview was published in September and went unnoticed by American news outlets until the Huffington Post flagged it.
In the interview Sommerfeld asks: 'In your opinion is Islam the problem or Western liberalism?'
King replies saying 'it is like fighting a two front war. How is it, that the liberals, the leftists, on the one side, could build an alliance with the misogynistic hard core rightist Islamic people that have no tolerance for everything?'  
'If we don’t defend Western civilization, then we will become subjugated by the people who are the enemies of faith, the enemies of justice,' King said. 
He cited an old NBC interview where he slammed Charlie Peirce after he said the Republican convention was full of 'old white men'.
King clapped back saying: 'That kind of talk is a little tiresome and old, isn't it? Can you name another subgroup that has contributed more?'
When asked 'more than white people?' King responded 'More than Western civilization itself! No subgroup has contributed more to Western civilization.' 


Speaking on migrants, he touched on Mollie Tibbetts, the 20-year-old girl who was found stabbed to death in an Iowa cornfield and her confessed killer is believed to be an illegal immigrant from Mexico. 
'The individual who murdered Mollie Tibbetts should have never been in America,' he said. 
'Liberals in the US say that Mollie Tibbetts' death is just because the perpetrator was male, that it didn’t have anything to do with him being a law breaker, a criminal. And what I say to those people who say that immigration isn't part of her death is: then go and tell her family, that if her killer had been deported the minute he set foot illegally on US soil, your daughter would still be dead,' he added. 
He also slammed the U.S. low fertility rate saying 'if we continue to abort our babies and import a replacement for them in the form of young violent men, we are supplanting our culture, our civilization.'
At multiple points in the interview he uses the phrase 'Western Civilization' which he seems to define as white America.
The two touched upon the theory of the Great Replacement - which is the idea that mass migration such as from Muslim-majority countries, could lead to the extinction of white European culture and identity.

Unzensuriert is well known in Austria as a far-right publication that attacks the country's traditional outlets. 
'Unzensuriert is very much like a German-language version of Breitbard. They are opinion pieces which offer a far-right view on the world,' Ingrid Brodnig, an author and expert on the Austrian far-right, said. 
Last year Austria's intelligence services flagged the site as promoting anti-Semitism and extreme xenophobia.

His Democratic opponent J.D. Scholten retweeted the story and noted how King was able to sit down for an interview in Austria but refused to be interviewed by Iowa's largest newspaper before the election. 
'It's disrespectful to this distrct that he's spent more time (five times in the last six years) in Austria on TAXPAYER DIME than he does in most counties in our district,' Scholten said to the Huffington Post. 
King has been a Congressman for Iowa for eight terms in Iowa, in one of the reddest districts of America. 
He has beaten Democratic opponents by more than 20 points in the past five elections. 
According to a poll from last month, he was leading his Democratic challenger Scholten by 10 percentage points. 
He made headlines on Wednesday for endorsing Faith Goldy, a white nationalist mayoral candidate in Toronto's upcoming election.

President Donald Trump is down playing his son-in-law Jared Kushner's friendship with Saudi Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman in the wake of journalist Jamal Khashoggi's death, saying they are just 'two young guys' who are 'the same age.' 
He also said Kushner barely knows MBS - the crown prince is known by his initials -  even though the two men have had several one-on-one meetings and are reported to communicate with each other via WhatsApp - a private messaging system.
'They're two young guys. Jared doesn't know him well or anything. They are just two young people. They are the same age. They like each other, I believe,' the president told The Washington Post. 
Kushner is 37 and MBS is 33.

Trump's new tone on the two comes as Saudi Arabia admits Khashoggi, the dissident writer who worked for The Washington Post, died in the Saudi consulate in Istanbul after days of denial.

But the details of what happened have changed repeatedly and officials are questioning the versions of the story and the crown prince's role in the matter. 
The president is said to be frustrated that his son-in-law's close relationship with the crown prince has become a liability in the international crisis and has left him with no good options.   
Kushner, a senior adviser in the Trump administration, has been urging the president to stand by the prince, according to The New York Times, arguing the crown prince can survive this just as he has survived past criticism. 
MSB and Kushner held their first White House meeting in March 2017. They have had additional face-to-face meetings at least four more times and are said to have bonded given their close ages and powerful positions within their families. 
Trump, meanwhile, was heavily critical of Saudi's explanation for Khashoggi's death, telling The Post 'obviously there's been deception, and there's been lies.'
But he also defended the Kingdom as an 'incredible ally' and kept open the possibility that MBS did not order Khashoggi killed. It has been alleged he was behind the order.
'Nobody has told me he's responsible. Nobody has told me he's not responsible. We haven't reached that point . . . I would love if he wasn't responsible,' Trump said.

Kushner was reported to have spoken with MBS after Khashoggi disappeared - but before his death was confirmed - and urged him to launch a full investigation into the matter.
But he has kept his role behind the scenes, not accompanying Secretary of State Mike Pompeo when he went to Riyadh last week.
Khashoggi went missing after entering the Saudi consulate on October 2 to obtain documents for his upcoming marriage.
Saudi Arabia originally said Khashoggi left the Embassy but Turkish officials claimed the journalist was tortured and killed.
The Kingdom changed its story several times on what happened to Khashoggi. 
According to the latest version, the government wanted to convince Khashoggi, who moved to Washington a year ago fearing reprisals for his views, to return to as part of a campaign to prevent Saudi dissidents from being recruited by the country's enemies, an official.
So they put together a 15-member team from the intelligence and security forces to go to Istanbul, meet Khashoggi at the consulate and try to convince him to return to Saudi Arabia.
They claim Khashoggi struggled with them. During the fight, his mouth was covered as part of their efforts to restrain him and he choked and died, they claimed.

Skeptics have asked why so many people, including military officers and a forensics expert specializing in autopsies, were part of the operation if the objective was to convince Khashoggi to return home of his own volition.
Amid the growing crisis for the Saudi Kingdom and reports focusing on the friendship of Kushner with MBS, comes the president's efforts to down play the relationship between the two men.
But Kushner cultivated ties with MBS early on in his time in the Trump White House, when his portfolio of issues was developed to include foreign and domestic policy.
Trump's son-in-law took on the job of drafting a peace framework in the Middle East between the Israelis and Palestinians.
He worked with MBS in the hopes of getting Saudi backing for his plan.
Kushner was also key in arranging Trump's first foreign visit at president, which took place in May 2017 in Riyadh, where the president was welcomed with all extravagant displays of royal pageantry.
He's also visited Saudi Arabia on his own, including during a tour of the Gulf in June.  And MBS, in return has visited the White House, where's he had lunch with Kushner and the president. 
MBS was appointed crown prince in 2017 by a royal decree from King Salman, an aging ruler who is thought to be a figurehead. 
Trump dismissed the king is ill.
'I spoke to him two days ago, he's very sharp, he's a wise man, he's a wise person,' he told The Post.
The crown prince has promoted reforms in the Kingdom but his talk was met with skepticism in the wake of several critics in his country being imprisoned and tortured.

Liberal Senator Bernie Sanders slammed President Donald Trump as a 'pathological liar' and a 'terrible example' for his seven grandchildren ahead of speculation he may make another presidential bid in 2020.
'I've got four kids, seven grandchildren - young kids - we try to raise our kids to be honest and treat other people with respect and compassion and what kind of terrible example, regardless of your political views - doesn't matter whether you are conservative or progressive - you want your kids to be honest and decent. What kind of terrible example is this person in the White House giving to our children?' Sanders said at the rally in Columbia, South Carolina, on Saturday.
The senator was speaking at a conference of Our Revolution SC, the state chapter of the organization that spun off from his unsuccessful bid for the Democratic presidential nomination in 2016.

And while Sanders did talk about health care, he sounded more like a presidential candidate, thanking his supporters from 2016, throwing red meat remarks to his liberal base, and attacking the president.
'I know this is going to shock you, but Donald Trump lied,' Sanders said of the president's policies as the crowd roared with laughter and applause.
There were nearly 1,000 people there to cheer Sanders on, according to the Associated Press.  
The senator is on a campaign swing for the 2018 midterms, but the trip is filled with hints of what may come in 2020 - taking him through the early voting states of South Carolina, Iowa, and Nevada. 
He's also making a stop in California - whose state is increasing in importance for the 2020 primary. California's primary date is in the process of being moved up on the calendar, giving it more weight in picking the Democrats' nominee, and Sanders' liberal policies could play well in that state. 
Sanders, an independent senator from Vermont who caucuses with Democrat, also criticized Trump as an 'embarrassment' and a 'pathological liar.'
'What is an embarrassment to me,' Sanders said at his South Carolina appearance, 'is that we have a president who is a pathological liar.'


'There is no politician in history who doesn't stretch the truth in order to make his or her point, that's politics but we have never had a president who lies all the time and it's quite possible he doesn't even know the difference between a truth and a lie,' he noted.
He also said it was 'criminal' the way the president has acted in regard to the climate.
'All he is doing is standing with the fossil fuel industry,' Sanders said. 
But Sanders said there is one 'core' problem with Trump that concerns him the most.
'Presidents of the United States - whether liberal or conservative - understood that the major responsibility of the president of he United States is to bring people together,' he said.
'Today we have us a president who for cheap political gain - or what he perceives as political gain - is trying to divide us up by the color of our skin, by our gender, by where we were born and by sexual orientation, or by the religion that we practice. It is an absolute disgrace,' Sanders added.
Sanders isn't the only potential presidential candidate to show up in South Carolina.

President Donald Trump's administration is attempting to strip transgender people of official recognition by creating a narrow definition of gender as being only male or female and unchangeable once it is determined at birth, The New York Times reported on Sunday.
The Department of Health and Human Services has undertaken an effort across several government departments to establish a legal definition of sex under Title IX, the federal civil rights law that bans discrimination on the basis of sex, the Times said, citing a government memo that it obtained.
That definition would be as either male or female, unchangeable, and determined by the genitals a person is born with, the Times reported.

A group of young dancers are channeling the trauma from last February’s mass shooting at Marjory Stoneman Douglas High School in Florida to encourage people to vote in the midterm elections.
Ballet Dancers Robbie Fairchild and Ezra Hurwitz have released an inspirational video entitled Enough! The video, in partnership with Everytown for Gun Safety — a non-profit group dedicated to gun violence prevention — and National Dance Institute (NDI) is a dance-driven anthem about gun safety and arts education.
Fairchild, formerly with the New York City Ballet and Hurwitz, with the Miami City Ballet, developed the video as a tribute to the 17 fatal victims of the Feb. 14 shooting at the Florida school.
Choreographed by James Alsop, the video is set to I’m Still Here, a new track from Sia.

A Florida man accused of groping a woman on a flight Sunday from Houston to Albuquerque defended his alleged behavior by saying 'the president of the United States says it's OK to grab women by their private parts.'
Bruce Michael Alexander, 49, of Tampa, made his initial appearance in federal court on Monday in Albuquerque on a charge of abusive sexual contact. 
According to a criminal complaint, a female passenger on board Southwest Airlines Flight 5421 told authorities the man behind her touched her right breast twice along her 'bra line' while she was asleep in the window seat directly in front of him.

The woman assumed the first instance of touching was accidental, but she felt that when the stranger's hand made contact with her body a second time about 30 minutes later, it was done slowly and 'attentively,' suggesting that it was deliberate.  
The victim told the man to stop touching her, then asked a flight attendant to move her to another seat in the back of the plane, reported the Albuquerque Journal.
Before the flight landed at Albuquerque International Sunport, the crew asked local law enforcement to meet the plane on arrival, citing 'reports of a customer’s alleged inappropriate behavior onboard,' according to the airline.  
When interviewed by FBI agents on the ground, Alexander denied groping anyone and said he had slept through most of the flight and was sober. He recalled only that the woman in front of him had spoken to him and then changed seats.
However, the federal agents noticed that the 49-year-old suspected had thick, hairy fingers with dirty nails that matched the description of the hands the victim said had groped her.

After Alexander was handcuffed and placed in an official vehicle, he invoked Donald Trump's infamous comments from the 2005 'Access Hollywood' tape, on which the future president of the United States was heard bragging to TV host Billy Bush about sexually assaulting women. 
'And when you're a star, they let you do it. You can do anything. Grab them by the p***y,' he said.  
Alexander remains in custody pending a preliminary hearing and a detention hearing scheduled for Tuesday. If convicted of the charge against him, the Florida man could face up to two years in federal prison.

In the closing stretch of the 2018 campaign, the question is no longer the size of the Democratic wave. It's whether there will be a wave at all.
Top operatives in both political parties concede that Democrats' narrow path to the Senate majority has essentially disappeared, a casualty of surging Republican enthusiasm across GOP strongholds. At the same time, leading Democrats now fear the battle for the House majority will be decided by just a handful of seats.
'It's always been an inside straight, and it still is,' Democratic pollster Paul Maslin said of Democrats' outlook in the Senate, where they need to pick up two seats while holding on to several others in Republican-leaning states to seize the majority. 'If it had been a different year, with a different map, we might have had a terrific sweep. That would be a long shot.'
While the trend may be troubling for Democrats, the evolving political landscape remains unsettled two weeks before Election Day, even with millions of votes already cast across 20 states.

There are signs that the Democrats' position in the expanding House battlefield may actually be improving.
Yet Republican candidates locked in tight races from New York to Nevada find themselves in stronger-than-expected positions because of a bump in President Donald Trump's popularity, the aftermath of a divisive Supreme Court fight and the sudden focus on a caravan of Latin American migrants making an arduous trek toward the U.S. border.
Democrats say they never assumed it would be easy.
'It's still much closer than people think, with a surprise or two in the wings,' New York's Chuck Schumer, the top Senate Democrat, told The Associated Press.
The midterm elections will decide whether Republicans maintain control of Congress for the final two years of Trump's first term. 
Even if Democrats lose the Senate and win the House, they could block much of Trump's agenda and use subpoena power to investigate his many scandals. 
Some in the party's far-left wing have also vowed to impeach the president, while others promise to roll back the Republican tax overhaul and expand health care coverage for all Americans.
Democrats have enjoyed an overwhelming enthusiasm advantage for much of the Trump era. They hope an explosion of early voting across states like Florida, Texas and Nevada is further proof of their enthusiasm gap.


It took voters in the Houston area less than six hours Monday to set a new opening day record for early voting during a midterm election. 
And in some Florida counties, two and three times as many voters cast ballots on the first day of early voting Monday compared to four years ago.
Public and private polling, however, suggests the GOP is getting more excited as Nov. 6 approaches.
'Republican enthusiasm doesn't quite equal the white-hot enthusiasm of Democratic voters, but the Kavanaugh hearings got it pretty close,' said GOP consultant Whit Ayres.
He also attributes the party's strong position on an unusual Senate map. Democrats are defending 26 seats of the 35 seats in play, including 10 in states that Trump carried in 2016. Ayres calls it 'maybe the most Republican-leaning map of our lifetimes.'
He expects the GOP to maintain the Senate majority, perhaps adding a seat or two to its current 51-49 edge. Others have begun to envision the GOP picking up as many as four or five new seats.
Democrats, meanwhile, have effectively protected their Senate candidates in states across the Midwest - Ohio, Pennsylvania, Michigan and Wisconsin - that helped give Trump the presidency in 2016. They are increasingly pessimistic about picking up any seats, however.

The Tennessee Senate contest, in particular, has shifted sharply in Republican Rep. Marsha Blackburn's direction in recent weeks, while Democratic pickup opportunities in Arizona and Nevada are now considered toss-ups. In a measure of the deep uncertainty that has defined the Trump era, only one Democratic incumbent - North Dakota's Heidi Heitkamp - is seen as most in danger of losing.
After Heitkamp, Democrats facing the greatest risk of defeat are Joe Donnelly of Indiana, Claire McCaskill of Missouri, and perhaps Bill Nelson of Florida. 
Texas Democratic Senate candidate Beto O'Rourke has shattered fundraising records and developed a national following, but polls have consistently given Republican Sen. Ted Cruz a significant lead against him.
In the race for the House, both sides acknowledge the prospect of a wipeout-style wave is shrinking.
It's not that Democrats won't be able to wrestle the House majority. But Republican lawmakers are increasingly optimistic, in part because of Trump's recent performance as the GOP's campaigner in chief.
Republicans say the often-volatile president has been surprisingly on-message during his campaign events, touting the strong economy and doubling down on the Kavanaugh fight to promote his efforts to fill courts with conservative jurists. 
And while Trump has been criticized by members of his own party for his handling of the case of the death of a Saudi journalist working for The Washington Post, operatives say the matter appears to be having little impact on voters.
On a conference call last week, House Majority Leader Kevin McCarthy, R-Calif., urged rank-and-file lawmakers to pony up extra cash and help for tough races. They see hopeful signs in Iowa, Florida and Kansas.
Rep. Tom Cole, R-Okla., emerged from the call saying it's going to be a 'dogfight' to the finish.
There are signs, however, that Democrats are expanding the House battlefield as Election Day approaches.
Republicans in recent days have pumped new money into House districts held by Republicans in Florida, Georgia, Virginia and New York, suggesting they're on the defensive. Already, Democrats invested in nearly 80 races, including more than a dozen legitimate pickup opportunities in districts Trump carried by at least 9 points.
Democrats need a net gain of 23 seats to claim the House majority.
The massive battlefield remains a problem for Republicans, who have struggled to match Democratic fundraising and face several first-time candidates not yet tainted by Washington.
Still, Dan Sena, the executive director of the House Democrats campaign arm, recently predicted Democrats would win the majority by only two seats.
The Republican shift is not playing out as planned.
The GOP hoped its tax cuts would fuel their midterm message. After they proved unpopular, Republicans largely abandoned their most significant policy achievement in the Trump era in favor of a more familiar message of anger and fear.
The super PAC aligned with House Speaker Paul Ryan, which is expected to spend $100 million before Election Day - most of it on attack ads - highlighted the shifting landscape in a memo to donors.
'The polling momentum that began with the Supreme Court confirmation hearings has continued, and the environment has continued to improve,' wrote Corry Bliss, executive director of the Congressional Leadership Fund. Still, he wrote, '20 races that will decide the majority remain a coin-flip.'

Suspected explosive devices have been sent to top Democrats including Barack Obama and Hillary Clinton, as well as CNN, US officials have said.

It comes two days after a pipe bomb was found at the home of liberal philanthropist and financier George Soros in the suburbs of New York City.

CNN's New York office was evacuated on Wednesday morning after a suspected bomb was sent to their mailroom.

President Donald Trump said that these threats "have no place in America".

Speaking at the White House, Mr Trump said that he has been briefed by the FBI and "a major federal investigation is now under way".

"The safety of the American people is my highest and absolute priority," he said.

"In these times we just have to unify. We need to come together and send one very clear unmistakable message that threats or acts of political violence of any kind have no place in America."

When asked about the pattern of these attempted attacks, during a news conference, New York Police Commissioner O'Neill said law enforcement is proactively contacting people to ensure other mail rooms "follow proper protocol".

The FBI in New York said they were aware of the suspected packages, and that their Joint Terrorism Task force is aiding in the investigation.

New York Mayor Bill de Blasio decried the attempted attacks as "an act of terror attempting to undermine our free press and leaders of this country".

"To all public officials, to all partisan affiliations - don't encourage violence, don't encourage hatred, don't encourage attacks on media you can disagree but you have to show respect."

Who has been sent these packages?

The packages were addressed to former President Obama, ex-Secretary Clinton and former CIA Director John Brennan.

Additional suspicious packages addressed to Democratic Representative Maxine Waters and former Attorney General Eric Holder are currently being investigated by law enforcement.

The packages to Mr Obama and Mrs Clinton were intended to arrive at their residences.

FBI Special Agent Bryan Paarman told reporters the device for Mr Brennan, which appeared to be live, had been sent to CNN's mailroom.

One of the packages sent had listed Congresswoman Debbie Wasserman Schultz, the former chairwoman of the Democratic National Committee, as the sender.

The package intended for Mr Holder was sent to an incorrect address and returned to the congresswoman's office in Sunrise, Florida, US media say.

Mr Brennan was scheduled to appear on CNN on Wednesday, US media report. Mr Brennan, is a frequent contributor to the network and has become a vocal critic of Mr Trump since leaving office.

According to a statement from the US Secret Service, the package addressed to Mrs Clinton was recovered late on 23 October.

"Early this morning, October 24, 2018, a second package addressed to the residence of Former President Barack Obama was intercepted by Secret Service personnel in Washington, DC," the statement adds.

"Both packages were intercepted prior to being delivered to their intended location. The protectees did not receive the packages nor were they at risk of receiving them."

Early voting started a week ago in my state. The Rethuglicans closed voting sites in a lot of Black and Latino/Hispanic areas, leaving the ones in neighborhoods that are either inaccessible by public transportation, or too far to drive without using an hour's wages worth of gas to get to and from, or too unfriendly to make the venture. So I've been doing my part by picking up people and taking them to the polling site where I voted. This was the topic of conversation during every trip I made today. Most of the people I talked to are convinced that the Philanderer-and-Thief will tell the FBI and Secret Service to soft pedal the investigation, then withhold information from the public to conceal connections to groups who have publicly endorsed The Wingnut.

There are several state constitutional amendments on our ballot. I had been explaining what each one would do, and why I voted 'no.' But now I open with "They were all written by Republican legislators." That pretty much ends the discussion because that's all anyone needs to know. 'No' votes all around.

Way2, what a terrific thing you’re doing by getting people to the polls who might otherwise not be able to vote.   It just seems from the widespread voter suppression tactics, gerrymandering and the lies/propaganda being spread by the Trump party that the odds of Democrats winning the House are slowly slipping away.  But really I don’t think anyone has any idea at this point.  Early voting has been really strong in some areas of the country.  But I think we will all be on the edge our seats on election night.  Going to be a nail biter for sure!
 
I’m still hopeful that there are many of us, especially women who are angry as hell and will show it by going to the polls in droves.  But it doesn’t help when there are still vast numbers of people who will not come out to vote because they don’t care.  Our country has a sorry record for voter turnout in elections.  And even with what’s at stake this time around there is still voter apathy.  THERE ARE STILL PEOPLE IN THIS COUNTRY WHO DONT KNOW WHATS GOING ON WITH TRUMP!!!

that's something I can't even imagine in Germany!
Every German citizen (or citizen of the EU, for the elections to the EU Parliament) aged 18, has the right to vote. Since we're registred, everybody who has the right to vote, gets a letter telling him where and when to vote. Our elections always take place on a sunday between 8 a.m. and 6 p.m., and there has to be at least one voting site in every village, no matter how small it is. The only reason why voting sites were changed, was because you now need to have voting sites with wheelchair accessability.
In our town with about 20,000 inhabitants, we've got 24 voting sites, one up to three in the villages and twelve in the town itself.
You can also decide for absentee / postal vote which allows you to vote before the actual elections take place. Lots of elderly people do so, often since they don't know how they feel on election day or are afraid to fall down in winter. Of course the absentee votings are a way to influence elections: you don't know if there's somebody telling them how to vote - or even voting for them. But they have to sign a paper saying that they voted uninfluenced and did it themselves. It's also possible that people who voted ahead of the elections, have passed away on election day. But in relation to the number of voters in total, that's just a minimal number of people.

Way2Old - Great work! Voting here in NYC is relatively accessible. I'm within walking distance of two polling places - and, of course, have to vote at the one furthest from my house. Still, only a 10 minute walk.

Before every election we get voter guides in the mail outlining how and where to vote and explaining any ballot initiatives. Usually they list the candidates and their party affiliation, along with a short bio and platform statement. This time this info is on a website. Most problems we have with voting seem to be from clerical or poll-worker error.

I think the most discouraging thing to me is that drumpf is blaming everything (immigrant caravan, attempted bombings) on the Democrats - and his base is buying it! I can only hope they become over-confident and  stay home on election day.

Quick question: A friend suggested that anyone who can't pass the citizenship test we give to immigrants shouldn't be allowed to vote. What do you think? (Constitutional issues aside.)

Well, I don't have much money to contribute to the people I support, so I have to do something - even in my 11-year-old car that needs a wheel bearing repair and only holds three other people, one of whom gets squished against my granddaughter's car seat. I live in an area with enough White people and Republicans that there are actually three sites within a short drive from me, so I wasn't subjected directly by the discriminatory election processes. North Carolina Repulsivcans are notoriously petty. They'll do anything to hang on to power, whether they're in office or not. Their latest scheme involves moving to impeach judges who rule against them.

I don't think there are gradations of citizenship rights. Citizens have the right to vote, period. We'd all like everyone to be informed and literate, but that's not part of the deal. Voting rights should be expanded, not restricted. Requiring people to pass a test recalls Jim Crow days when Black people, who'd been legally barred from education, to pass an exam before they could register to vote. Besides, factual knowledge of civics is not the same as mature reasoning, emotional intellect, or good judgement. Those hate-spewing, racist traitors that have crawled out of the woodwork at the stench of tRump can probably pass the immigrant citizenship test, if only because some of them would steal the answers and hand them out at a tRump rally.

Seriously, though, I agree that voting should be made accessible to all citizens without qualifications but as a teacher, I can't help but feel that most of the electorate has been poorly served by our education system. Many of our high school graduates can't pass the citizenship test and don't understand the importance of their vote. We have failed them and our country.

Maybe we should move elections to weekends or make Election Day a national holiday to show how important it is. In NY if you don't have enough time to get to the polls before they close, you're entitled by law to 2 hours off from work to vote - but you have to notify your boss at least 10 days in advance. They do attempt to inform voters and get them to the polls. Even so it seems that a lot of people just can't be bothered.

Couldn't agree more, Lizzy! I'm pretty sure that most of the leaders who initialized mass murder and genozides, were very intelligent. It's just that - at the moment - populists seem to take the lead, and intelligent people with the ability to understand complex issues, are overheard and shouted at.

We all like our lifes to be simple - black and white - but life's different. For centuries, 99 % of us stayed in their area their whole lifes, did the same job as their fathers (farmers, craftsmen, workers, bondslaves), women did the household and gave birth every year. People died at a quite young age, due to injuries, no medical treatment, wars or they simply starved. 99 % of the people accepted this as God-given. 99 % accepted the fact that they had ni right to vote, that our leaders were elected by sovereigns, and that they didn't rule their own lifes.
It's the 1 % who were questioning and revolting this, who left to make a life somewhere else, who dared to go to university although their families were 'just' workers or farmers, who invented new technologies - who actually made the difference and changed their lifes and others.

Carolhathaway - What you said made me think about how much the world has changed in the last century. We have made huge advances in learning how the world works through science and technology. If governments got out of the way and let the world's scientific community work together freely I bet they'd solve many of the problems causing trouble today, ie: climate change, famine, drought - which lead to social unrest. The world's resources could be managed in a sustainable, equitable fashion.

Everything in the world affects everything else. Like dominoes, if you change one thing it will change something else. If the change is for the good you make the world a better place. If people can live a safe, fulfilling life where they are they won't have the need to go anywhere else.

US officials could soon be bumping heads with former United Nations allies over human rights documents that use the word 'gender' - as Trump administration seeks to all but wipe transgender people from existence. 
Officials have been pushing for the rewriting of the UN's Third Committee general assembly policy statements, arguing that the language used is vague and politically correct. 
The committee works with issues concerned with 'social, humanitarian and cultural' rights.
The officials from the United States are positing that the current conversation uses 'ideology' that isn't based in an unchangeable biological fact, the Guardian reports.

But while the personnel from Washington have been extremely vocal about wanting the changes, none of them are actually full-time UN diplomats. 

'We are seeing this more and more coming up on the Third Committee, and this is going to be a battle in the coming weeks,' a UN diplomat stated.  
The European diplomat also noted that the US has added 'gender' on one occasion to policy language.


In order to get the desired changes, the US officials will have to partner with countries that they wouldn't normally - including Russia and conservative Islamic states.  
Another UN diplomat added: 'If you only say violence against women, it doesn't really tell the whole story. We shouldn't be going along with encouraging their society to be regressive.

A spokesperson with the US state department claimed that they were not trying to 'exclude the protection of transgendered persons' dictated in the UN resolution. 
'When certain parts of resolutions explicitly refer to issues affecting 'women and girls', our negotiators have suggested in several instances to change 'gender' to 'women' and/or 'women and girls' to make the resolutions clearer, more specific, more accurate, and in our view, stronger in the Administration's efforts to empower women and girls,' the spokesperson stated.

The New York Times reported on Sunday that President Trump's administration is attempting to strip transgender people of official recognition by creating a narrow definition of gender as being only male or female and unchangeable once it is determined at birth.
The Department of Health and Human Services has undertaken an effort across several government departments to establish a legal definition of sex under Title IX, the federal civil rights law that bans discrimination on the basis of sex, the Times said, citing a government memo that it obtained.
That definition would be as either male or female, unchangeable, and determined by the genitals a person is born with, the Times reported.
Any dispute about one's sex would have to be clarified through genetic testing, according to the Times' account of the memo.
Such an interpretation would reverse the expansion of transgender rights that took place under the previous administration of President Barack Obama.
It would also set back aspirations for tolerance and equality among the estimated 0.7 percent of the population that identifies as transgender. Most transgender people live with a profound sense that the gender assigned to them at birth was wrong and transition to the opposite sex, while others live a non-binary or gender fluid life.

I always believed that one advantage of the technology we have now - and nearly everybody in the First World has access to it - is that we've got access to worldwide informations. I always thought that people can't be manipulated like in the 1930s in Germany, when we lived in a 'bubble' or after WW II when people in East Germany watched West German tv and listened to West German radio stations (both was a crime) to find out what's really going on in the world.
I never thought that this technology could be used to manipulate people, and I always thought that everybody uses the internet to check facts before spreading them  and to inform himself on different sites. Instead, many people create their own bubble, ignoring reliable sources and trusting anonymous sources on facebook, twitter or Alex Jones. And calling every source which tells sometbing else 'fake'.
I thought we'd all be as intelligent as to see the chances the internet has. I was wrong...

President Donald Trump remark blaming the '"Bomb" stuff' for harming Republicans drew the glare of the media Friday.
The president tweeted that the attacks have slowed the momentum of Republican political candidates and bumped other news from the headlines, just minutes before the arrest of a suspect who bedecked his van with pro-Trump and anti-Democratic images.
In his morning tweet, he  referred to the attacks as '"Bomb" stuff' – and said the news of the attacks comes after Republicans are 'doing so well in early voting.'
He fired off the tweet minutes before authorities arrested a suspect, Cesar Altier Sayoc, 56, in Florida. According to Sayoc's Facebook page, he is a Trump fan who posted pictures and videos of himself at one of the President's rallies in October 2016. The suspects van was plastered with pro-Trump images and pictures of Demoratic critics with targets on them.

Trump's tweet came after authorities discovered a 12th package bomb – this one sent to former Director of National Intelligence and Trump critic James Clapper. Another package was found addressed to Democratic New Jersey senator and presidential candidate Cory Booker.

Others targeted have included former President Barack Obama, former Secretary of State Hillary Clinton, and former Vice President Joe Biden.

Trump's tweet came before the arrest of Sayoc, whose postings and van made clear his political background. 
Sayoc posted a photograph of himself wearing a MAGA hat in front of the US Capitol in 2017.
He was convicted of a threat to 'throw, place, project or discharge any destructive device' in 2002 in Dade County, Florida, court records show.
He claims to be Native American, and according to a picture posted on his social media page, he is a member of the Seminole Tribe of Florida.
Among the stickers and images visible on his white van, now impounded by authorities, are smiling pictures of Trump and Pence, Hillary Clinton with a target on her, a 'CNN sucks' image complete with the network's logo, and a picture of Trump standing atop a tank.

Trump addressed the arrest in remarks at the White House, saying: 'We must never allow political violence to take root in America.' He promised 'swift and certain justice' and said the suspect would be prosecuted 'to the fullest extend of the law.' 
Trump's tweet came minutes before New York authorities confirmed another pipe bomb was uncovered in Manhattan – this one mailed to former Director of National Intelligence James Clapper at the address of CNN's headquarters.
The package containing a pipe bomb was removed from a postal sorting facility. 
The bomb spree has been met with wall-to-wall coverage, displacing breathless coverage of two other events: the killing of Saudi dissident and Virginia resident Jamal Khashoggi and a caravan of thousands of Central Americans making their way through Mexico to the U.S. border.
Authorities have described the packages discovered as bombs and 'suspicious packages' but none have exploded, and it isn't yet known whether the perpetrator who sent them assembled them in such a way that they would explode.

At least eight people are dead and multiple others are injured after an antisemitic gunman armed with an AR-15 opened fire on a packed Pittsburgh synagogue on Saturday, shouting: 'All Jews must die' as he sprayed  worshipers with bullets. 
The shooting occurred at the Tree of Life Congregation Synagogue in the Squirrel Hill area of Pittsburgh shortly before 10am. The gunman, who has been described as a white man with a beard, is in custody.  
Shortly before 10am, he burst through the synagogue's doors and opened fire on the congregation on the main floor where around 40 to 50 people had gathered for a Sabbath service, shouting 'all Jews must die!' while spraying bullets over them. 
After killing three people on the main floor, he went to downstairs, where the New Light congregation was gathering in the basement, and opened fire there. 

He murdered four people there then fled upstairs where, on the third floor, he exchanged fire with SWAT teams and injured three police officers. 
Dor Hadash, a third, smaller group, was gathered in the rabbi's study to the side of the Tree of Life' s congregation. 
After being injured himself in the crossfire, the antisemitic gunman surrendered to police.  He is now in custody and is yet to be named.
Three cops were shot exchanging gunfire with the assailant. One was shot in the hand and did not suffer life threatening injuries. The condition of the other two officers is unknown.

Saturday is one of the busiest days for the synagogue. As many as 100 people in total had gathered across the three congregations for a Sabbath service and an infant circumcision ceremony, known as a bris. 
There was no security there, with former synagogue leaders describing how it operates an open door policy for worshipers.  
'On a day today the door is open you can walk in an out,' the synagogue's former president, Michael Eisenberg, told CBS Pittsburgh.

He added that security had been a 'major' concern for him in the past and that he was working with the government to improve escape routes and emergency procedures.

'We were working with the other synagogues on what to do if this happened,' he said. 
He said of the building's maintenance man: 'He was shaken, he saw one of our congregants down, he knew, he was in the bathroom and he was able to get out of the building.'

Witnesses are still being interviewed by police at the scene. 
It remains unclear if the gunman, who was wearing a green jacket and blue jeans, has been removed from the building or not. 
He was 'crawling' and injured before he was arrested.  
President Trump tweeted that he was aware of the unfolding scenario, writing: 'Watching the events unfolding in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania. 
'Law enforcement on the scene. 
'People in Squirrel Hill area should remain sheltered. Looks like multiple fatalities. Beware of active shooter. God Bless All!'

President Donald Trump's lawyers will send special counsel Robert Mueller a series of written answers to submitted questions but not until after next week's election and only if he agrees to no questions on obstruction of justice and no face-to-face sit interview, it was revealed on Monday.
The president's legal team wants that broader agreement before they turn over Trump's responses to several dozen questions from Mueller, who is investigating Russia's role in the 2016 election, whether the Trump campaign colluded with Moscow and whether the president obstructed justice.  
Rudy Giuliani, Trump's personal attorney, told Bloomberg News the answers they've completed only relate to whether Trump's team colluded with Russia in 2016.
He noted they are unwilling to answer any queries about the possibility of obstruction of justice by the president.

Giuliani also said that a face-to-face interview with Mueller is 'off the table' for now but, he noted, it's not being ruled out completely.

Trump, who regularly tweets he is a victim of a 'witch hunt' in regards to Mueller's probe, has been unusually silent on the subject of the investigation in the lead up to the 2018 midterms. 
And Giuliani, a regular presence in the news, has stayed behind the scenes as Republicans fight to stave off a blue wave from giving Democrats control on Capitol Hill.    
The former mayor of New York City said there could be additional questions from Mueller to come but he expects the probe to be wrapped up by the end of November.
He also said both sides agreed to stay quiet until voters went to the ballot box on November 6. 
'We have an informal agreement that while negotiating the final details of a Q&A that we wouldn't comment much, we have been sort of quiet,' Giuliani told Bloomberg. 'But I expect a day after the election we will be in serious discussions with them again, and I have a feeling they want to get it wrapped up one way or another.'

Negotiations between the two sides have been going on for almost a year over whether Trump will sit down with Mueller's team. 
Giuliani has also expressed concerns that investigators won't believe Trump's responses and will accuse him of lying to investigators in what Giuliani refers to as a 'perjury trap.'
Mueller is under political pressure to wrap up his probe.
After the election, he is expected to report on two of his main charges: whether there was collusion between Russia and Trump's campaign and whether the president took any actions that constitute obstruction of justice.

This bullshit makes me furious! He should be made to sit down in front of Mueller's committee and answer any questions they ask - not just questions he thinks won't get him in trouble. Submitting "answers" written by his team of lawyers is crap. And, ideally, the hearings would be televised so we could all see them for ourselves and not have to deal with the horse crap "fake news" nonsense he'd spout if he comes off looking like the snake he is - which he would!

To change topics, I spent a good part of my childhood in Pittsburgh. As a lot of reporters have noted, Squirrel Hill is truly "Mr. Rogers' neighborhood". Some of my relatives are still there.

Tree of Life was my cousin's synagogue her whole life. She was Bat Mitzvah and confirmed there. We attended her wedding there. It is a beautiful, loving congregation and she is devastated because this was her synagogue and her neighbors. She knew them.That something so horrific could happen there is unthinkable, yet it did. I don't know how you heal from something like this.

There are memorial services and there will be funeral services as soon as the bodies are released. The religious community of Pittsburgh (not just the Jewish community) has requested that trump not attend - until and unless he can loudly denounce white nationalism and his doctrine of divisiveness and hate. He says he's going anyway to "show respect" for the grieving families. If he really wanted to show respect he'd honor their wishes and stay away. It makes me sick to my stomach to think that he's going to try to use this to his advantage. He's a pig!
