Terminate le riprese di Catch 22

A conclusione delle riprese della mini serie Catch 22, girata in Italia, George Clooney che ne è interprete, regista e figura tra i produttori esecutivi, ha dichiarato: «Sono felice di aver lavorato qui a Cinecittà, e in Italia, con voi che siete stati una fantastica troupe. Abbiamo fatto un gran film, anche perché qui abbiamo fatto diventare facili tutte le cose che sembravano difficili. Abbiamo lavorato bene, come una grande famiglia». Roberto Cicutto, presidente e amministratore delegato di Istituto Luce Cinecittà, ha affermato che le parole di Clooney sono «un grande riconoscimento del lavoro che da un anno stiamo facendo per ridare al mondo una Cinecittà efficiente, bella e unica nel panorama degli studios cinematografici».
 
Catch 22, prodotta da Paramount Television, Anonymous, Smokehouse Pictures, Sky Italia e Channel 4, è la trasposizione del romanzo di Joseph Heller ambientato durante la Seconda Guerra Mondiale, pubblicato in Italia con il titolo Comma 22. Le riprese sono iniziate a fine maggio in Sardegna per spostarsi a Sutri, a Viterbo, e dal 7 agosto a Roma presso gli studi di Cinecittà dove sono state girate le scene legate agli interni degli aerei. Oltre a Clooney, fanno parte del cast, tra gli altri, Hugh Laurie, Giancarlo Giannini, Christopher Abbott, Kyle Chandler. Uscirà in Italia nel 2019, trasmessa da Sky Atlantic, mentre negli Usa sarà disponibile su Hulu.

«Sono felice di aver lavorato qui a Cinecittà, e in Italia, con voi che siete stati una fantastica troupe. Abbiamo fatto un gran film, anche perché qui abbiamo fatto diventare facili tutte le cose che sembravano difficili. Abbiamo lavorato bene, come una grande famiglia». Ieri pomeriggio, a Cinecittà, le parole di George Clooney hanno regalato un’atmosfera di commozione. Ad ascoltarlo, nel teatro di scena, l’intera troupe di quasi trecento persone. Erano da poco passate le 17, e il discorso di ringraziamento del divo di Hollywood ha reso omaggio all’ultimo ciak della produzione di “Catch 22”, la serie televisiva che Clooney aveva cominciato a girare a fine maggio in Italia (prodotta da Sky Atlantic). La sceneggiatura, come è noto, è tratta dal famoso romanzo ambientato nella Seconda Guerra Mondiale di Joseph Heller, pubblicato in Italia con il titolo “Comma 22”.

L’impresa per Clooney, in veste di attore, regista e produttore, è dunque finita. Così come le sue personali “vacanze romane”. L’avventura negli studios sulla via Tuscolana aveva debuttato intorno al 7 agosto scorso, dopo i ciak battuti in Sardegna, a Sutri e a Viterbo. Tre settimane esatte a Roma di intensi set al cardiopalma, visto che le scene girate erano legate agli interni degli aerei, nientemeno che i bombardieri americani del calibro di Junker e B-25 che hanno partecipato al conflitto bellico. Set straordinari tra scenografia ed effetti speciali. Come racconta Enzo Sisti, il produttore esecutivo, sono stati coinvolti due teatri interi. «La difficoltà delle riprese è stata grande - dice Sisti - Le scene dovevano riprodurre le situazioni concitate all’interno degli apparecchi, nella simulazione del volo».

La tecnologia degli effetti speciali è stata al servizio del copione e delle idee di Clooney per simulare «i movimenti dell’aereo, quelli più complessi e arditi, sia in picchiata, sia in virata», racconta Sisti. Lui, Clooney, è rimasto sempre dietro la macchina da presa: «In queste scene non era protagonista, lo erano gli aviatori che, da plot, vengono mandati in missione dal comando generale, per bombardare vari siti italiani». Di fatto, a Roma sono nate le sofisticate scene degli interni degli originali bombardieri statunitensi che nella realtà hanno volato in Sardegna per due mesi all’aeroporto di Venafiorita vicino Olbia, dismesso negli anni ‘60 del secolo scorso e che Clooney ha rianimato - con fior di autorizzazioni - a suon di allestimenti. Non a caso, la serie televisiva punta molto sulle scene di aerei in azione, che decollano, volano, combattono, atterrano, precipitano.

Scene complesse davvero. «Ma la professionalità è stata alta, a cominciare da Clooney: lui è il leader e tutto dipende sempre da lui», ricorda Sisti. Nella trama di “Catch 22”, serie che sarà trasmessa nel 2019 - cast di attori americani e inglesi, capitanati da Hugh Laurie il famoso Doctor House, fino al nostro Giancarlo Giannini - aleggia lo spirito di Heller. Nel romanzo, vengono narrate le disavventure di un gruppo di aviatori statunitensi appartenenti ad uno stormo di bombardieri operante proprio in Italia. «Soddisfatto ma soprattutto orgoglioso», si dice Sisti, perché «siamo riusciti a fare un lavoro di primissima qualità con una troupe al 95 per cento composta da maestranze italiane. Non temo di essere retorico nel dire che siamo tra i migliori al mondo». Un ricordo finale sulle riprese nel Lazio? «A Viterbo è filato tutto liscio - riflette Sisti - a Sutri pure, nonostante Vittorio Sgarbi si sia un po’ lamentato. Ma ci siamo chiariti alla fine. A Roma, beh a Roma ci siamo divertiti». Oggi per George Clooney volo in partenza. Destinazione, Los Angeles. O Como?
