Cork native Samantha Barry's newly appointed role as Editor in Chief of Glamour Magazine was celebrated by powerhouses Amal Clooney and Anna Wintour.
There's well connected, and then there's Samantha Barry. With an impressive resume working for major media organizations around the world - it's no surprise that she counts such luminaries among her close friends.
The newly instated Glamour ed was honored by "two of [her] favorite women Amal and Anna" at an exclusive bash in her honor.

Barry, who started her career working overnight shifts on RTE radio, previously told The Late Late Show's Ryan Tubridy that she met human rights lawyer Amal while they both lived and worked in London.

The digital media boss revealed to Tubridy that she was one of the guests at Amal's intimate Venetian wedding to actor George Clooney in 2014.
She shared that she regularly holidays with the A-list couple, laughing that the one-time E.R. star is a prankster full of jokes.
Heart throb Clooney isn't the only one down for some mischief either - Barry also revealed to Tubridy that Vogue editrix Anna Wintour is also "great craic" despite the general public misconception.
It seems that the admiration is mutual too. The Condé Nast empress described Ballincollig native Barry as “fearless like so many leaders of the moment.”
“We recognized at once that Sam would be the perfect editor for a new more ambitious era of Glamour’s future. We cannot wait to see her vision unfold," Wintour said when announcing Barry's appointment.
The first Glamour issue that Barry presides over will be published in May. With a background in breaking news for outlets like CNN and BBC, she has already promised "meaty journalism" tackling pressing issues around the globe,

I think she looks good , the top may be vintage but it is on trend, it's a high low top and off the shoulder.

She is at a fashion event no better time to have some fun it wasn't a serious event.

I think it would have looked even edgier with black leather pants.

Exactly, it's appropriate for the occasion. It's a party thrown by Anna Wintour, what better occasion than this? It's also possibile that the whole outfit was a suggestion by Anna herself.

What's the deal with Amal posing ahead leaving her mother trailing behind her? She does this constantly when out with less famous friends. It is so rude. Amazing how many times she is being photographed walking in and out of something and she decides to answer the phone. There are countless pictures of her doing this. She wouldn't be able to hear anything and who would take a phonecall when they were literally being surrounded by photographers calling out her name. I think it's a defence mechanism pretending you are one the phone "Look at me, so busy, busy, busy"

This outfit - so out of keeping with the other fashion forward fashionista's at this type of event looks costumey and cheap- more like a stage outfit. George would probably appreciate it in the bedroom - with a pair of lacy stockings.

I kind of like this outfit. Agreed it's not for staid fuddyduddies who think any woman over the age of 21 has to stick to some kind of dress code.

I don't think anyone can say if it was appropriate or not given she was one of the party hosts and the massive range of dresses being worn by the other guests - from shoulderless catsuit with silver shoes to a floral carpet to a green carpet to whatever the fuck Gayle King was wearing to Sienna Miller who apparently didn't bother to get changed our of her daytime dress at all.

IMO there was more than one unfortunate choice of outfit at this party. Gayle King's was one. I'm guessing she's already burned that dress! The girl in the floral tablecloth was another. Megan Kelly apparently needed to air out the girls and Amal just needed to have some fun. Ugh! If this is high fashion, you can have it.

Just because something is "on trend" doesn't mean it's right for everyone or every occasion. And just because something has a designer's name on it doesn't make it flattering. Even Uggs and trash bags were designed by somebody!

Fashion is what you like and want to wear not what someone else likes or thinks is appropriate.

We all have our own style and thank god for that the world would be very boring if we all looked and dressed a like.

She handles the attention the ways she should with class and grace. What exactly is she supposed to

do curse them out every time she leaves the house. Or hide her face like a spoiled brat.

They would be looking at her no matter what she wears because her last name happens to be Clooney.

Annemarie - We agree on a lot of things, but I'm afraid not on this. Yes, she's going to get attention no matter what - which is why, when she turns up in something so trashy I can only think she wants the attention it gets. Look at the other women at that party. Other than Megan Kelly with her boobs hanging out, no one's outfit was so demanding of attention. I'd expect this outfit on a Kardashian or a wannabe celebrity - or at a Halloween party.

Quick opinion: Amal's outfit was designed/selected to be the most eye-catching thing at the party... which, to me, is inconsiderate because she was hosting it in honor of someone else's achievement. She's going to get attention and flattery no matter what she wears. Would have been nice if she'd underplayed it for once.

Look the way I see it is like this: when Madonna was still like a virgin, she wore lingerie-inspired clothes trying to shock the public and even back then I think most people under 25 were more 'meh' than shocked by her look. Nowadays it's a mainstream look. Are we really saying we haven't moved on since 1984? It's been 38 years . . .

Amal is never going to have a boring, unadventurous fashion sense a la Kate Middleton who always wears lovely clothes, but by god, they're dull. They have to be: she represents a conservative royal family and can't take any risks.

Amal wears a lot of outfits that - in my opinion - make her look like she rolled around in a jumble sale before leaving the house. You know why I don't write that? Because what I think of what she's wearing is irrelevant. I'm not an arbiter of style [although I do follow fashion and know what's trending even if I roll my eyes at some of the looks the designers put out there] and she's not dressing to please me. I also roll my eyes at some of Amal's fashion choices, but I don't often comment on what I think is a bad look because it's pointless. It's just my opinion and obviously she thinks otherwise. Saying something snarky about her surely makes me feel happier for an instant, but then what? Now I'm the bitch who can't even be kind about something a complete stranger wears in a picture on the internet. Plus, to be honest, I don't care enough about her or her clothes to be heartfelt in my comments.

Coming back to this outfit, while I'm not loving it, I don't hate it either. It shows nothing of her other than shoulders and a centirmetre of skin above her hips. I'm not shocked by it, and I don't think anyone else here is either. I think it's more taking the opportunity to take a swipe at Amal because she's wearing something some people don't like, and that's what I'm objecting to.

That was me Lizzy....last week I felt genuinely sorry for her...This week not so much....

I know we think she has a high profile...but she actually does not, she is not on the cover of British Vogue....just U.S...She is not memorable....

I still think her persona is such that nothing sticks about her, public awareness is nulled to her....True charisma is George, someone who is unforgetable...Amal a "brill" lawyer but no charisma, though Lord knows she tries....and this get up/rigg out proves it....Sweet Baby J she gets top marks for trying.....

I don't think Samantha Barry would worry one iota or be offended by what Amal is wearing. They are great friends and both have come far in this world. The fact that she was on the Venice boat with Bill Murray says it all....

In fact in contrast to many of George's previous other halves, Amal is modest!

PAN you can't "claim" modesty and wear outfits that are completely off that mark.

If I understand correctly, Amal stated she likes to have fun with her fashion. There's no problem with that. However, Amal can't wear outfits that hookers traditionally wear and claim modesty. We have to go with, "that's a fun look for her". I'm not a fashion aficionado, Amal's look at this event is something I might see on a high fashion runway show, however, those looks often don't always translate to everyday wear. I don't think any of us would say anything about Amal's outfit if she wore it to a Rock and Roll red carpet event. In other words there is a time and a place for everything.

The outfit Amal is wearing screams Fredrick's of Hollywood super hero, at an event she's hosting to honor another. I agree with Way2, however the ownness is really on the Daily Mail. The article should be about the honoree, with a side note about Amal hosting. The attention given to Amal, that continues to be imposed upon us, I see as an attempt to make her more relevant to a wider audience.

The Met Gala is being hosted by an internationally known A-List celebrity Rihanna and a World Renown fashion designer Donna Versace, unfortunately Amal is the side note in that company. On this blog we have been inundated with Amal and what she's wearing, with side notes of her stint at Columbia and cases she is currently working on. The attention paid to Amal over the last two weeks: her outrageous date night looks, the paps on her doorstep, the Vogue cover,... still have not stirred an interest in Amal to a wider audience.

Someone felt the need to explain why it was important for Amal to be on the cover of Vogue. The paps are on her doorstep constantly when Amal leaves and arrives back to her Soho home and no one other than the paps seem to be interested, The Post wrote an article Amal and the art of revealing absolutely nothing. These are just a few examples of how the effort to boost Amal is NOT working.

The truth is, if Amal was not in a marriage relationship with George Clooney there would probably no interest in Amal. However Human Rights attorney's, teachers, scientist, ect... add value to the human life experience that really can't be matched.

I want to end with this, Amal has every right to wear what she wants, where she wants. Amal clearly enjoys fashion ranging from the ultra conservative to the outrageous. What I love most about this entire story is "Anna Wintour" took notice, placed her on the Cover of Vogue, and asked her to Co-Host the Met Gala. A life experience, that has to be beyond wonderful. I can't imagine what that must be like for her.

In an ideal world, yes, but this isn't an ideal world. You need to get it into your head that the Daily Mail has no interest in what it's actually writing about. The honoree (who has a name: Samantha Barry) isn't famous to the general public (although I'm sure she's well known within the publishing industry), therefore isn't of interest to the Daily Mail. Instead, they're going to write about the famous people. They didn't even bother to find many pictures of Samantha, but ran lots of pictures of all the celebs who attended. That's the way the world works and we can all rail against it, but it's not changing any time soon.

Not really. If you read anything other than this site, you'd find she's barely a feature anywhere - the past two weeks being an exception because of the Vogue cover. Well of course she's on this site a lot: she's married to George Clooney. I know you'd prefer to think he's not married and ignore her existence on this planet, but the rest of us accept reality as it is.

If you want to tell yourself that she's not of interest to COH posters, then go ahead but I see the statistics for this site and I know better. Don't just take my word for this; read through the threads yourself and you'll see that it's always the girlfriends/wife threads that get the many comments and if there's a picture of the two of them together, more than half the comments are about the woman, not George. The fact that fans so often focus (maybe fixate would be a better word?) on the wife/girlfriend instead of George is something that makes me tear my hair out a bit as the owner of a George Clooney site. I don't know how to change it. Look for yourself: we've had two sightings of George plus a lovely photo thread of him ageing well and you see how few comments are made? No one really seems to care. And we call ourselves fans?

And on what basis do you make that statement? Is there some kind of internationally recognised celeb-o-meter you're checking with? Or is this just wishful thinking.

I'll tell you something that's a fact: paps don't bother to take photos of people who aren't of interest. Magazines and online entertainment sites don't bother publishing photos of people who aren't of interest. Vogue doesn't put people who aren't of interest on the cover. You may deeply wish that no one's interested in Amal, but the fact that she's mentioned so much proves you very wrong.

Firstly, the word is 'marriage', not 'marriage relationship'. I know you deeply wish for them not to be married but you'll just have to accept they are.

Secondly, you've just said that if she weren't famous, no one would be interested in her. Well duh, captain obvious. The reason she's of interest now is because she's married to George. You may not like that fact but that's how life works. Any woman who publicly dated him for even a nano-second is of interest to the media (ie: becomes a celebrity simply because of her relationship with George) and remains so for years and years after the relationship is over. You can argue that it shouldn't be like that and I'd agree with you, but you can't pretend that it isn't true.

Note: the numbers are slightly skewed because there were more people on the forum before he got married but even now, you can see the number of people reading and posting on the Amal threads is generally higher than the ones only about George. And when a post is about both of them , more than half the comments are about Amal. So please don't tell me that George Clooney fans aren't interested in Amal: my challenge is getting people to be more interested in George!

You contribute to this too. Have you ever looked to see how many posts you make about Amal as opposed to George? I don't mean this in a nasty way at all; just wondering if you've ever considered it?

This is not a topic where I care to swing opinions back and forth. I'm going to be honest, I did not want to write anything about this thread, Amal's outfit speaks for itself. It was PAN's "modest" comment that was over the top. I wrote my opinion and I believe you and PAN are entitled to your opinion.

Of late, unfortunately there seems to be more threads placed on here about Amal. For a long time I would only PM others. I spoke at great length about "Suburbicon". I'm fairly new here. I was extremely surprised more people who contribute here have not seen the movie.

Who George Clooney choose to spend his time and share his life with is his own business, that includes his marriage relationship with Amal. I really want to care about George Clooney's marriage to Amal, the truth is I don't.

Frankly, we don't see much of George and that is the problem. He is doing his thing a way from the paps so no news to really talk about.

It has been great the last few weeks to see him on location and out with his wife. I'm hoping with the new show
we will see more of him.

To be honest George has never lived his life in the press, and he and Amal still don't . We have seen more of them because they are in New York. I think we will see less when the filming is over and the Met Gala. We will probably get the odd picture from Laglio, but no where near what we used to get.

I think this is the way George and Amal like it. They have times they have to deal with the paps and they do it, but for the most part they really are very Private with their life.

As for the Vogue interview, there has been a rumor going around that Anna Wintour is leaving Vogue, that could be the reason Amal did the interview as a favor to her.

I have to agree with Annemarie. We don't see much of George unless he's doing press or promoting something - which isn't the case right now - because he tries to keep his private life private - and usually succeeds.

Even when we do see him there's only so much to discuss. If he doesn't have something he's working on, the only things to talk about are who he's with or how he looks, etc...

Amal (or any of his girlfriends) is a different story because she's a woman and (being women) we can wonder what we would do/say/wear in her place. We can relate.

Side note: After what she wore to the party and seeing this "outfit" I'm beginning to think she's letting Anna Wintour and her friends use her as a walking ad without any input on her part. Ex: Monday - Michael Kors. Tuesday- Christian Siriano etc...- just pop it off the hanger and go - no thought required.

It would be the other way round. Being featured in Vogue - never mind getting the cover - is a really big deal. Even more so when the person isn't even a real celebrity. It's not something Vogue have to beg for.

I remember a few years a go that when they put K.K on the cover they lost a lot of subscribers. Maybe , by putting someone like Amal

on the cover they are hoping to recoup the one's they lost.
