Last Updated: 12:42 AM, September 22, 2011

“The Ides of March” director and star George Clooney penned a funny message, which ended with him poking fun at President Obama’s tax proposals for the wealthy. The note, to be read to a roomful of VIPs at a screening last night at MoMA, said,

“Sorry I can’t be there ... I’m in China, funding a satellite to keep an eye on a few war criminals,” read Clooney’s note, which he’d asked Brian Williams to read. “I’m actually spying on you right now. And for the record, tell [Council on Foreign Relations president] Richard Haass that I wouldn’t have worn that shirt. I hope you enjoy the film. If you do, I wrote and directed it. If you don’t, Aaron Sorkin wrote it ... You’ll also note how handsome Ryan Gosling is. But I’m told he won’t age well. One can only hope. Also, Sony wanted you to know the drinks are free unless you make more than $1 million a year. And that IS ‘class warfare!’ ”

The screening was expected to draw Daniel Craig, Andrew Garfield and Eric Schmidt.

Too funny. I don't know if any of you guys used to watch Will & Grace but it reminded me of something Karen Walker said about going to Vegas. "Sure, I may lose $100,000 at the tables but the drinks are free so it all evens out." lol!

Thanks again for the pics, laetval. Give Flowers

I saw it, cray cray was there too. I guess she took the hooker comments into account, looked better and chose to use brighter color like Eli. Her hair is getting darker too...

ps: George looks awful to me, kind of tired/anxious or in a lot of pain.

Can't wait to see this movie!! The one review I read that was slightly negative said that they felt he stole techniques from other political movies like the Candidate. All directors "borrow" and what a great movie to borrow from! Have to thank that reviewer made me watch The Candidate again.

Reviewers can be so santimonious at times. Of course, George has said many times that he borrowed from different directors, actors, etc. Please tell me one director or actor who has never done that.
What reviewer is so "pure" minded and virtuous that he/she has never borrowed an idea, a phrase or even an entire review from another. Come on, people-noone has original thoughts all the time

I agree about movie critics, but I read them anyway. I think the critics point was the ideas were overdone in Hollywood. He also mentioned similarities with Primary Colors, but to me his point made no sense - to say the ideas have been done before by a 40 year old movie that an entire generation hasn't seen. It's not like he borrowed from the Twilight films. Still I saw the Candidate again, I am interested in what part George borrowed.

Good thing if he borrowed from the candidate since I really like this movie (though I'd even prefer all the president's men).
I kind of like Letterman, but hope he doesn't rebash old stories (it' sort of the pb with these kind of shows...). It's been a while since he's been promoting that much (or maybe it's just me), but I guess if he's directing he should feel invested. He doesn't look like Gosling is going to do much promoting.
It is coming out this week in the US, isn't it ? Hope some of you here will rise early and post their comments really soon ; )
