I'm still amazed by republicans
I just checked the COH facebook page to find a sea of invective posted by republicans who are OUTRAGED that George Clooney turns out to be a democrat and supports Hillary Clinton. As a Brit, I'm not hugely interested in American politics [if you want to see a parade of shitty politicians, you should see the idiots we just voted into power a few days ago] but I can't for the life of me figure out how many so-called Clooney fans have only just this week realised he's a democrat. Am I missing something here?

Oh please they all know he is a Democrat he worked for Obama what did they think he was. Some people just need to sit down and be quiet. Unless they have no t.v. or radio or news papers they knew.

OMG you can't get any more liberal than George. That is NOT news. He's been liberal forever! Those supposed Republican Clooney fans aren't Clooney fans at all. They just want to knock Clooney and Clinton in one knockout blow.

Yeah, that's what I thought too. And yet, today on facebook are several posts claiming to be from fans (yeah, I know) who are "throwing away everything you ever made" and saying they'll never support him again.
I'm sooooo tempted to write post today that starts: 'Dear angry republicans' but I think I'd better not.

Oh. Katie, they know what they are! Anyone who thinks that coming on COH and denouncing George as a Clinton-supporting Democrat will somehow affect his fan base is an idiot (also known as a Republican!
) They live to cause trouble - which is why our government is such a mess! So go ahead and post. The worst that can happen is that a bunch of trolls will crawl back under their rocks.

Katidot I think you should. Nothing to lose. Who the heck did these people think George was going to support. He's a liberal, he has strong political views and he was going to come out for somebody on the Democratic side.
If these republicans have such strong political views of Clinton how come they didn't toss out George with the bathwater when he supported Obama ... twice?!

Re: I'm still amazed by republicans
While I am a registered Republican, I feel that everyone has the right to support their candidate of choice. I, personally. would never vote for Hillary Clinton as I think that she is not worthy to be in any political office, especially THE PRESIDENT OF THE UNITED STATES.
My personal stance in no way affects my George fandom. I admire his work, both cinematic and humanitarian. His personal choices are just that, HIS PERSONAL CHOICES. He knows politics is a controversial field but is willing to stand his ground.
Any of the COH members can choose to have their opinion, throw away anything he ever made, not support him in any way. I don't think it will really matter to Geroge.
Tell me, you so called Republicans, if your mother, father, husband, wife, son, daughter, sibling or grandchild came to you and announced the he/she was voting for and campaigning for HC, a Democrat, would you disown him.her, and destroy any and all items pertaining to him/her and strike that "sinner" from your life.
In essence that is what you are doing. Katiedot has it right.. George has always supported Democrats and has been very public about. What the hell are you really mad about. huh?

LOLL, thanks Katie for giving my first and only laugh of the day. I guess those "fans" aren't really fans if they were that ignorant.

mel01 - I don't think they were ever fans to begin with - just professional Republican campaigners trying to stir up trouble. IMO. they picked the wrong forum - we're not that dumb!

Re: I'm still amazed by republicans
Maybe they were fans but lived in a different world and when the interview came out those fans came back to reality and were shocked

By the way, tell me something. If some one is a registered democrate or republican does that mean you vote for them no matter what? what if you are a registered democrate but don't agree with the Person who is running for president. Would/Can this Person then vote for the republicans if this Person wants to or do you don't change sides?

Just because we register with a political party, we are not obligated to vote for that party's candidates. We can vote for whoever we wish. In the US we are just obligated to choose a party. We can change that party whenever we want. The party designation only comes into play during Primary Elections. During these elections, we get the opportunity to vote for candidates within our party who are vying for different offices. We can have many potential candidates for a particular office, and we have the opportunity to give voice to our choice. This choice is accorded to both Republicans and Democrats. The winners of these Primary Elections are then placed on a ballot for our National Elections. Then we get to vote again for the ones who survived the Primary.

You can also choose NOT to be affiliated with any party.
In California, if I understand it correctly, no matter which party you belong to, you can vote for candidates in either party for the primaries.

Re: I'm still amazed by republicans
Thanks for explaining that, folks!
Got a couple of angry and/or abusive emails through this website, plus a few more posts on facebook. I think it's really weird that they're reaching me (someone who doesn't really give much of a damn either way about US politics other than as a human being sharing the same planet as you, I'd like you all to vote for the person who's least likely to drop bombs on/declare war on the rest of us) and not George.
Oh well.

Katie, my apologies for my fellow countrymen. Apparently some of them think that harassing people online is the modern equivalent of working to get your candidate elected. It's stupid and counterproductive, but they haven't figured that out yet.

I think most of us would agree with you. Now if we could just get someone like that to run...
Oh well.

Oh, no need for apologies. You should see the idiots we have in my country! I'm just bemused by the whole thing.
"Laydeez 'n' gennelmen, allow me to introduce the leader of the Let's Be Nice To Everyone party". Hmmm, no. That doesn't sound like it's going to fly, does it?LizzyNY wrote:Now if we could just get someone like that to run...

Katie, you're not the only one who's bemused - and confused and fed up! There's not one politician in this country I would trust to take out the trash - let alone run the country!
They don't have to be nice to everyone - just be more interested in the survival of the species than the survival of their own career!
