Here is another article. George seems to be playing the lead. Interesting that there was a film made about this guy before. Then Bob Hoskins played the same guy.

Feb. 5, 2016 is the general release date. It will almost certainly be released in NY and LA for a week at the end of 2015 to qualify for that year's awards.

What an amazing cast! Missa, I hope they do screen it here in NY pre-award season, because I can't wait to see it. Late 2015/early 2016 is too far away! I'm not always a Coen brothers fan, but this one just has to be great.

Well that could be great if they do pre-screenings for awards season. And the boxoffice could benefit from that release date too due to the Valentine holidays. And doubt that huge cast including George would do lots of PR for it? Money Monster needs less time for post-production and it could well get released in next winter so George may have to promote two films in a couple of months.Missa wrote:Sevens wrote:Curious release date.

A bit interview from Roger Deakins here
Coens' 'Hail, Caesar!' gets a release date, Roger Deakins talks going back to film
Universal Pictures has announced that the Coen brothers' "Hail, Caesar!," starring Josh Brolin, George Clooney, Ralph Fiennes and Scarlett Johansson, among others, will be released on Feb. 5, 2016. That effectively removes it from much awards season discussion that year, but you could sort of gather that, given the subject matter and apparent tone of the film. Like "The Hudsucker Proxy," "The Big Lebowski" and "Burn After Reading" — romps that came after heady prestige pics like "Barton Fink," "Fargo" and "No Country for Old Men" — "Hail, Caesar!" looks like the boys just having a bit of fun.
What's interesting about the film, which begins shooting in Los Angeles next month, is that it marks cinematographer Roger Deakins' first trip back to the world of celluloid since his last collaboration with the filmmaker siblings, "True Grit." That was four years ago. He has since embraced digital photography, preferring the Arri Alexa camera on films like "In Time," "Skyfall," "Prisoners" and this year's "Unbroken." What will that be like, for Deakins and for viewers?
"I’m a bit nervous actually," Deakins told me a few weeks ago. "You know, I like it. It’s fine. It’s a challenge and I think it’s a nice thing, to be able to do it again. It might be the last time. Who knows? I mean I like doing digital I must say. The media advantages now outweigh the disadvantages."
Obviously it's a choice left to the Coens, who still prefer film. He and the duo never really talked about trying digital because he knows exactly where that conversation would go. "I mean, they eventually turn around and say, 'No, we're analog guys.' And I said, 'Yeah, OK. I'll shoot on a cell phone if you want! But also it’s also set in Hollywood in 1952 so I mean it feels like if anything should be shot on film it should be this film."
"Hail, Caesar!" follows a single day in the life of a studio fixer who is presented with plenty of problems to fix, according to the official synopsis. The film is produced by the Coen brothers and Working Title Films' Eric Fellner and Tim Bevan.

She's in town to prep for the Coens' next, "Hail Caesar!" opposite frequent leading man George Clooney. Yes, it starts in January, is a comedy, and no, she may not be playing Hedda Hopper. In the can is another comedy, Judd Apatow's "Trainwreck" (July 2015). Filming now is "I Am Love" director Luca Guadagnino's new relationship drama about exes, "A Bigger Splash."
Why this piece says it starts shooting in January? Or if it's her schedule as other cast could start earlier?

Re: Hail Caesar will start shooting on November 10
I'm confused...why is George's character listed as Baird Whitlock on IMDb? But when you click in, it still directs to Eddie Mannix page. Josh Brolin got listed as Eddie Mannix too.
However it's been reported by all the outlets that George is starring in this as Eddie Mannix. Anyway I think it's a mistake from IMDb. The Coens said last year about the film "it's still George." Some Information about Whitlock role though:
A Tale of the Christ
Before I saw the kidnapping scene in Joel and Ethan Coen‘s Fargo (18 years ago!), I had never heard the word “unguent.” And I haven’t heard it since. If I burn my hand I’ll put vaseline or petroleum jelly on it but the word “unguent” will never be acknowledged, much less spoken. And yet the Coens have some kind of fixation on this word because it’s turned up again on page 50 of their script of Hail Ceasar!, a dryly sardonic period comedy.
Hail Caesar! is actually the title of a Biblical-era film-within-the-film, seemingly based on Quo Vadis. The tone of the Coens’ script is…oh, half Barton Fink and half Burn After Reading…something like that. Pic is currently being cast and will shoot in the fall.
It basically follows the wily maneuverings of George Clooney‘s Eddie Mannix, a real-deal physical production chief and all-around fixer for MGM in the ’50s. Hail Caesar! is set in 1951, and the name of the studio is Capitol Pictures.
Josh Brolin might be playing Baird Whitlock, a none-too-bright, Robert Taylor-like leading man who’s starring in Hail Caesar! On the other hand Channing Tatum might be playing Whitlock…hard to be precise. My guess is that Brolin is playing Whitlock and Tatum is playing a personable but dumb-as-a-rock cowboy star named Hobie Doyle. Tilda Swinton is playing a red-haired, high-powered gossip columnist named Thora Thacker (i.e., Hedda Hopper), whose sister Thessaly Thacker (whom Swinton may also portray) is also a gossip columnist and Thora’s strongest competitor (i.e., Louella Parsons). Ralph Fiennes, I’m guessing, will play a heavily accented, somewhat-effete European director named Laurence Laurentz. Scarlett Johansson will play an actress (DeeAnna Moran) who’s gotten pregnant out of wedlock. I don’t know who Jonah Hill will play.

Not so fast: Universal Pictures will release the Coen Brothers' show business comedy "Hail, Caesar!" on Friday, February 5, 2016. The movie starts filming in January 2015.
The film stars George Clooney as Baird Whitlock, a 1950s Hollywood fixer who cleans up the messes of other movie stars. The film costars Ralph Fiennes, Josh Brolin, Tilda Swinton (who we interviewed here) and, according to IMDb, Channing Tatum, Scarlett Johansson and Jonah Hill. Swinton says it's definitely a comedy.
Back in Winter 2013, in the days of "Inside Llewyn Davis," the Coens told us in our Q&A that "Caesar" is "about the movie business and life and religion and faith."
The film will reunite the Coens with both Clooney -- who has starred in their more comedic fare including "O Brother Where Art Thou," "Burn After Reading" and "Intolerable Cruelty" -- and Brolin, who played Llewelyn Moss in "No Country For Old Men."
Check out our ranking of the Coens' oeuvre here; meanwhile, they wrote the most recent draft of Angelina Jolie's Christmas entry "Unbroken," adapted from the Laura Hillenbrand novel, and also have an upcoming collaboration with Steven Spielberg.

I don't think we're going to know what's going on until the film comes out. Maybe the Coen brothers are just screwing with the press - telling everyone something different. Or maybe they haven't decided on who they want in each part. It could even be a problem of availability - who can be on hand when they're shooting certain parts.

looks like George is actually playing Baird Whitlock
Here’s Everything We Know So Far About the Coen Brothers’ Next Movie
For many movie lovers, every film from the Coen brothers is an event—and now there’s another cinematic event on the horizon: This week, Universal Pictures announced an official synopsis and release date for the Coens’ next effort, called Hail, Caesar! The movie takes place “during the latter years of Hollywood’s Golden Age” and “follows a single day in the life of a studio fixer who is presented with plenty of problems to fix.” After a series of dark (if also darkly funny) outings—Inside Llewyn Davis, True Grit, A Serious Man—the Coen brothers seem poised to get goofy again.
Details about this project have been slowly coming to light over the last few months. The fixer mentioned in the brief synopsis will apparently be played by Josh Brolin, and his name is reportedly Eddie Mannix. That name also belonged to a real-life vice president and general manager of MGM under Louis B. Mayer and Dore Schary (who was played by Bob Hoskins in Hollywoodland), but it’s not yet clear how that Mannix and this Mannix are related. (Back in May, Deadline suggested the role had more in common with another fixture of 1950s Hollywood: private investigator Fred Otash.)
Also in the movie is Coen regular George Clooney. In fact, the project seems to go back several years to a planned project “about actors in the 1920s putting on a play about ancient Rome,” which the Coens, at the time, described as the third movie in their “Numbskull Trilogy” with Clooney, following O Brother Where Art Thou? and Intolerable Cruelty. Obviously the project has changed since then, but Clooney appears set to play an actor named Baird Whitlock. Carson Reeves at Scriptshadow says that the plot involves kidnapping and Communists and has echoes of The Big Lebowski.
Also in the movie is Coen regular George Clooney. looks like George is actually playing Baird Whitlock
Re: Hail Caesar will start shooting on November 10
Thanks, I have not heard from the production company yet. There are quite a few scenes being shot in LA, and I would love to work with George again. I am hoping I can be part of this great movie. It would be background work, but I have done a lot of it so this one movie would be great for me. thanks for your thoughts. I hope it will come true. bg

I dont think Mail knows anything they're just copying other reports.
If you look at Roger Deakins' recent interview above on Hitfix and his official site, he clearly knows it starts shooting very soon this month and he's been in town on testing shootings since September.I dont think they're delaying till Jan.

My wife worked as an extra today (11/11/14), the second day of filming. They shot at the historic Los Angeles Theatre on Broadway in downtown L.A. and they used about a hundred extras for a movie audience. They also shot some scenes in other rooms, I believe, but she was just part of the movie audience, pretending to watch a movie (to be added via CGI in post!).

The Coen Brothers’ Hail, Caesar! Adds Christopher Lambert
Hold onto your butts, ’cause this is an unexpected piece of casting information. Christopher Lambert, star of the most important ’80s genre pic ever, Highlander, has joined the cast of The Coen Brothers’ next comedy, Hail, Caesar!
The sibling duo’s upcoming chucklefest is based in the backlots and studios of Hollywood’s Golden Age, and follows the story of a ‘fixer’ named Eddie Mannix (Josh Brolin). The title has nothing whatsoever to do with veterinary medicine. In 1950s Hollywood, this was the term applied to the dogsbodies who were given the boring lackey jobs on sets. When a famous starlet goes missing, it’s up to Mannix to track her down. It’s a brilliant premise that ought to be the perfect vessel for the Coens’ typically zany commentary on society.
As production began on the shoot earlier this month, the casting roster has plumped up further with today’s left field announcement. Per THR, Lambert’s role in the starry ensemble will be that of “Arne Slessum, a married European filmmaker whose scandalous affair with a young starlet becomes yet another headache for the studio.” Lambert has crafted a sizeable resume by appearing in so-bad-they’re-good genre titles like Fortress and Mortal Kombat. Hence our initial skepticism. Of course, it’s not unusual for the Coens to work with actors you wouldn’t expect.
Rounding out the remainder of the cast are Coen stalwarts Brolin, George Clooney, Frances McDormand and Tilda Swinton, who’ll be welcoming newcomers Channing Tatum, Jonah Hill, Scarlett Johansson, Ralph Fiennes, David Krumholtz, Patrick Fischler and Fisher Stevens. A large ensemble that’s for sure, but expect many more announcements before Hail, Caesar! hits theatres on February 5th, 2016
