George Clooney nominated for IRAWMA humanitarian Award
Thanks Henway for this find. Although it sounds like a party made in heaven, anyone else think it's unlikely he'll be showing up to collect this one?

US actor George Clooney nominated for IRAWMA humanitarian award
Port of Spain, Trinidad/Chicago, Illinois – The famed American actor and star of Hollywood blockbusters “Ocean’s Eleven” and “Up in the Air” was recently nominated for the Marcus Garvey Humanitarian Award in 30th International Reggae and World Music Awards (IRAWMA) scheduled to take place in the scenic Caribbean island of Trinidad on May 28, 2011.
Also vying for this award alongside the celebrated Golden Globe winner are recording artistes Alicia Keys, Akon, Jamaican-American Reggae/Pop sensation Shaggy and Ziggy Marley, son of the late Reggae music icon, Bob Marley.
Clooney, who has supported over 20 global charities, co-founded ‘Not On Our Watch’. This organization’s main goal is to stop the genocide occurring in Sudan. Clooney has visited the area personally, and spoken with victims of rape and torture. His charity has donated millions of dollars to help those suffering in the region, with much of the funding going through the United Nations World Food Programme.
The former ER actor has also participated in charity auctions such as one which supported ‘Realizing the Dream’ a non-profit organization which seeks to continue the legacy and work of Dr. and Mrs. Martin Luther King in wiping out poverty and injustice. Furthermore, Clooney has been known to give generous donations to homeless people, is a supporter of Bono’s poverty-fighting ‘ONE Campaign’, and is also on the Board of Trustees for the United Way.
In addition to this Hollywood heavyweight, other notables who are nominated and will be honoured at the 2011 International Reggae and World Music Awards include musical icons Paul Simon and Stevie Wonder, actress Sheryl Lee Ralph, and chart toppers Shakira, Wyclef Jean, Rihanna, Drake, Nicki Minaj, Pitbull and the Black Eyed Peas.
Ephraim Martin, President of IRAWMA stated that this year’s edition of the awards show will be groundbreaking and history making. He further shared that this 30th anniversary ceremony will award and acknowledge a diverse group of individuals and entities representing North America, the Caribbean, as well as the African and Latin American Diasporas and that he is pleased with 2011’s world class collection of nominees and special awardees.
