Re: March Chit Chat
So I think all this "new" stuff in George's life has motivated me to get my house in order.
Well that and this month's Oprah magazine. It's all about getting your life decluttered.
I had to put together some materials for something I'm doing this weekend, and in the process of gathering the stuff I found a bunch of stuff I really did not need or had not used in years.
So I did one of those Peter Walsh decluttering exercises. One pile for trash, one pile for donate and one pile for storage.
Was able to donate a bunch of stuff and put three boxes in storage and got all my stuff organized for the weekend.
Tomorrow evening I'll pack the car and then I leave Saturday morning.
It just feels so good to "lighten the load" of stuff that I've had sitting around. Tomorrow I'll tackle the books. Now that I've finally gotten a Kindle, I'll be less attached to the books. I can always get the ones I one to keep via the Kindle store. Heck, some of the Kindle versions are even free.
I looked up the 100 Books you Should Read list and one I had never read but had, of course, heard the title many times was Of Human Bondage. I was able to download it for free.
And I was able to get 12 Years a Slave (the book) for just 99 cents. Probably a special given all the attention the film has gotten.
But back to the decluttering - The issue has a March calendar with things to do titled: "One month to a saner you!"
The first thing they suggest is to put a box near the door to collect items to give to Goodwill. Vow to put at least one item in the box every time you go out the door.
The next tip is to go to the fridge and spend five minutes disposing of week old takeout containers, expired condiment and smelly milk.
And the other one he calls 5 - 5 - 5. In five minutes find five items in the room where you are sitting to give away, five to throw away and five to put away. (I've read in his book to use an egg timer to actually time the five minutes.)
It's amazing how much you can get done in those five minutes.
So anyway, that's the plan. Organize and de-clutter my life. Once I've lightened the load I can seriously concentrate on all the other things I still have on my bucket list.

No can do cause YOU have to be involved in what you give away, throw away or keep.
I've watched a couple episodes of Hoarders and I don't ever want to become like that.
Funny though, every time I get rid of stuff, other stuff seems to magically appears! HA!
My biggest irritation is the junk mail I get every week. Geesh, it's all I can do to keep up with pulling it out of the mailbox and throwing it in the recycle bin. Cause anything with my name on it I have to make sure I pull that info to shred. Don't want my identify stolen.
I did have the credit card offers stopped for five years. Can't remember what website I went to but there is one out there. The few that still come in I shred right away!!

I have a dumb question Katie, why is every user's avatar and info suff in the right side of the forum? Is there any cultural differences about this?
All the western forums are doing this pattern?Any theories into this?
I've never seen any online community which doesn't put that on the left side here in my country.

Re: March Chit Chat
Well Lorna Im decluttering in a huge way.
This weekend will have a 4metre by 4metre bin delivered to our place and will spend most of Sunday filling it with junk, most that Ive already boxed up. Have set aside a billion articles of clothing which I donate all the time but it still accumulates (no idea who is buying my kids all these clothes but they must stop).
Ive already done the decluttering exercise that I saw on Oprah years ago, remove 7 items from each room and decide whether to junk or donate it. My problem is storage, what I need are several good sized booshelves so the kids can organise their billions of books/toys. And although I have way too many cupboards in my kitchen Im not using them properly so yet again will go through them all again soon.
I think I need to move to a smaller house, then there wont be enough room to accumulate more items!!

Um if I went out for a drink at 10.00am in the morning, think Id get in a bit of trouble!!
Dust doesn't worry me, I dust almost daily, with an asthmatic I kinda have too - I vacuum every 2nd day also, incredibly boring boring boring. All this reorganising is more about me not being able to find what I want too when I need too.
I have now become one of those Mums who now has a family schedule on the wall just so I can remember what days each child has their sport activities and kindergarten days etc - how sad is that!

Yep, used to do it all on a family calendar - when I'd done rather a lot of chauffeuring in one day, my column looked the busiest of the lot! Didn't have a lot of time for this, but sometimes made a point of doing it and leaving somewhere obvious when other half had had the odd lunch 'meeting' or two!

I've found that wiping over wooden furniture with a very slightly damp cloth, like a cotton face flannel,
helps keep the dust away for longer.

Good for you. It does feel so much better when you can get rid of clutter. Soon you'll have to get your kids involved in the decluttering. I read somewhere that they can help you decide what to donate. It starts them early with the attitude that charity is a good thing.

Well Ive done one thing right with my kids then!! Once the eldest turned 5 and had accumulated a ridiculous amount of belongings we started donating his toys. Since then each year between September and Christmas (once all their birthdays are over with) they all pick out toys/books (including the 4 year old) that they are happy to donate. Getting there slowly, their appreciation of what they have that is!!

A bit of Tom Hardy's butt:
20. Tom Hardy
Where you can find the butt: Band Of Brothers
Apparent butt firmness: 6.8
Overall butt thoughts: The sheets are really getting in the way here, which is problematic. But the butt is front and center for long enough to realize that it’s a good butt!

10 Secrets To Being Charming
13 March 2014By Stephen Bayley
It's man's greatest weapon. Here's how to nail it
When design expert Stephen Bayley was but a boy, his headmaster left a word of warning on his last ever school report: "Charm alone will not get him through".
As tends to happen when you're critised as a child, the word stuck with him. And now, many years later, he's decided to write a book on that very concept: charm.
The result is a informative and fun look at what he calls "one of life’s most desirable assets" , looking at its orgins and meaning throughout history.
Here for Esquire, Bayley condenses charm down to 10 basic rules of thumb, so you too can get away with murder.
***
1 | Treat every single person you meet as if you have been given secret information that they will soon inherit an unwholesomely large fortune. Do not, of course, schmooze or insinuate – or even beg – but be polite, concerned, absorbed, helpful. This applies to bad-tempered bike couriers as much as to authentic heiresses.
2 | Wear good shoes. People will judge youon them whether you want them to or not, and you only get a single chance to make a first impression. The coded language of good shoes is potent, direct and understood by everyone.
3 | Don't tell jokes, but laugh at everybody else's. There is no more reliable indicator of absolute imbecility than the inclination to be hilarious. Being witty is altogether different, much more charming and much more difficult to acquire.
4 | Be curious and inquisitive, but not intrusive. There is absolutely nothing that people enjoy more than the suggestion you find them fascinating. Be prepared to say : "Do tell me more about how you did your own conveyancing on the basement flat in Chigwell".
5 | Being charming is not all about sex, but quite a lot of it is. Oblique appreciation is fine, but never be crude. You might be thinking "I bet she bites and screams", but what you say is: "Has anybody ever told you what beautiful hands you have?"
6 | Never complain. Ever. If losing in a sport, congratulate your opponent with conviction. To be ideally charming, let him win in any case. Assume any fault anywhere at any time to be your own, irrespective of its cause. Self-deprecation is a far better ad for yourself than self-advertisement or mouthy show-boating.
7 | Pour wine and serve drinks with a modest smile and gentle, unobtrusive generosity. Balance in the drinks department is essential: no-one wants to be left with an empty glass, but nor does anyone want to be made to feel greedy. Charm is good taste in action.
8 | Study George Clooney. In anything.
9 | Listen. Be quiet rather than loud, but, at the same time, do not be timid. Charmers lead the group without anyone actually realising that's what's happening.
10 | Finally, look to history. Machiavelli was, perhaps, not much of a charmer, but he had useful advice. In any transaction, political, business or social, just think about the end result, he said. Or consider Frederick the Great who told his troops : "Always be more than you seem". He meant : keep a lot in reserve, but just don't let people see it. Charmers get to "yes" before anybody else. They always win. And even if they don't, they still feel good about it.

My top five: George Clooney, Daniel Craig, Edward Norton, Tom Hardy and Matt Damon maybe.
When asked I always say Russell Crowe...mainly I love the way he comes out of himself and into character.
If I was to say GC...they would say...but you haven't even seen him act.

Other favorite actors? Oh yes, Andy Garcia and Al Pacino.
Well, Edward Norton…he is pretty interesting too. And that´s it.

Re; Gut instict
I'm in a rush, but if I never write another post I must write this.....
I have travelled all my working life to most of the danger spots of the world. These days usually alone save translator/driver, who very often I don't know.... but mostly I am alone.
I have been attacked twice, but never when I travelled.
Both attacks happened on the street where I lived, both were sexual attacks I didn't see coming.... both times I could see my home from where I was being attacked.one in day time 15.00 one at night 22.00.
I lived in beautiful middles class home, tree lined and as safe as safe could be, and I felt that way even after the attacks (5 years apart) I felt safe there.
It was only in the past couple of year or so I put two and two together.
In my middle class secure enviroment, my gut was swithed OFF!
When I was pounding the back streets of where ever my Gut was switched ON .... and it served me well.
But take this a step further, as I have since making this discovery. In the last couple of years I have deliberately switched Mr Gut on, at times I would not have in the past (family gathering etc).... and it's been a revelation.
So if you are watching telly tonight and you don't know if you closed the window upstairs, take a minute, tune into your Gut... feel safe/not safe.... just tune in, it will surprise you.
