Well I found out about this a few months ago, but didn't get to post it here, and later forgot where I saw it. I don't think this is the same article though, the one that I first read explained slightly more. Anyway, I was surprised to learn that Rande is no longer involved  with the Gerber Group. That explains why he hasn't had anything to with any of the openings of their new places. Clearly they haven't wanted to publicise this little detail.

His brother bought out his shares. Happens all the time and remember: Cash is king.

He is probably focused on his businesses. I remember reading (somewhere) that he in additional to the tequila with George, he also has a line of Rum and also a line of cocktail mixers.

The Gerber group may have considered his new lines in competition with their products. Thats sort of considered a conflict of interest at times. But it depends on the nature of the Gerber group's attitude about it as to why it was bought out. maybe Rande wants to slow down now and just work with the present drinking formulas.

Yeah, I did think there might be some conflict of interest, that's why he had to sell his share, because his name is no longer associated with the Gerber Group anymore. I remember years ago when he brought his brother Scott into the business, it was alleged by Ian Schrager (owner of most of the hotels featuring Rande's bars) that he did it to get around the non-compete clause so he could start doing business with other hotels.
