The First Presidential Debate
I watched it this morning. Interesting even though it was all domestic politics. My conclusion was that Romney "won" this one and didn't need to use all his turns to speak.
For what it´s worth, I would guess not many will remember it on November...

Re: The First Presidential Debate
I agree that Romney won the debate. Polls are showing overwhelmingly that he won it. I disagree that people won't remember come Nov. I do want to see how they respond to each other and who can think faster in a situation where you can't consult a speech or staff members. I have a tendency to believe both candidates will say whatever they think will get them elected so I like to see them have to answer and then respond to their opponent will less advising from staff.
There are two more so I guess we'll see how those go.

Re: The First Presidential Debate
Well let's see Romney had 20 debates in the primary during this year, with 8 competitors and the President hasn't debated anyone since 2008...I have a sneaking suspicion that that fact had just a tad to do with it. Out of practice and probably a little annoyed that he had to do it in the first place (which most presidents in his place have experienced) is the way the President came across to me.
And it's not all that hard to debate, when you don't have to use actual facts and you just keep repeating the same lies. Mr. Romney never actually answered the President's charge about how much Romney's economic plan will COST 5 TRILLION (which every independent agency has already rated) in the first few years to give the rich all those tax cuts and of course he NEVER answered anything about which deductions he would cut becuase then no one, not even the Republicans would vote for him...you can't win an election with 1% of the vote....so you lie yourself silly and let the fact checkers argue about it on the blogs, which the majority of "low information voters" will never hear about....GREAT strategy!

Re: The First Presidential Debate
I didn't watch as I find them very uncomfortable to view. I agree that Romney has had more practice because of the primary debates. I read somewhere that an incumbent usually does badly in the first debate but can come back strong. The next one is I think a town meeting type of debate. I think the President will do better then.

We need to help Big Bird who became a victim of this debate. Big Bird has always been their for us now we need to be there for him. Show support for Big Bird and PBS. Wear yellow on Tuesday. And no I don't work for PBS, but I do resent a candidate that doesn't support the Arts.

Sure, and it's going to go down something like this "Mr. President in the first debate you said......and now you say......"
Republicans will hold on to that first debate like gold.
President Obama needs to get on the ball and get the goods on them, (there is plenty) if he wants to win.

Re: The First Presidential Debate
Watched the first and third debate.
Based on that I am surprised if BO wins. ?!
Nothing against him, liked his book. Really enjoyed the ride he gave in the most manipulated market ever in 2008-2009. Anyone playing with FAZ-FAS knows what I am talking about… Making money in a stock market has never been easier than it was late 2008 and march 2009 till the summer 2009. BO gave guidance every week. If you didn´t fight the tape but listened, you made money.
I checked Bloomberg calendar to see when BO, T. Geithner or H. Paulson is going to podium (to speak) each week. It was like swiss clock work, amazing.
His biggest supporters are big financial institutions. GS, JPM, WFC recovered sharply, C and MS not quite (but they were in the game).
This is something you rarely see any articles about, but it is a common knowledge.

So...Mitt's favorite movie is about a dimwitted pathological liar with an overinflated sense of his own accomplishments?
I just realized "O Brother" could have been subtitled "The Mitt Romney Story".

I honestly can't believe how well the "rape/pregnancy from rape is a gift from God" crew are doing. As of right now, there are only a few percentage points separating those folks from their competitors.
How does anyone cast a vote for that kind of thinking? Sometimes I despair for my country.

Re: The First Presidential Debate
So true Missa. How anyone can vote for them is beyond me. I can understand not wanting to vote for the Democrat if you're a died in the wool Republican but, in that case, why vote for the candidate at all when you know he is a lunatic?
I wonder how the Dr. in Tennessee who impregnated one of his patients and then recorded himself talking to her on the telephone, pushing her to get an abortion, all the while portraying himself as a Pro-Life candidate is faring. Please tell me the people of Tenn. are not voting for this hypocrite!

Nope, the incumbent won re-election, although he's no catch himself. Reading up on the other candidates, Tenesseeans had some pretty slim pickings this cycle.

Re: The First Presidential Debate
Missa, I hate to tell you but I checked Tenn election results and Dr. DeJarlais who is the incumbent won. Incredible! He is under investigation for having sex with at least two patients. He taped himself pushing one of those women to have an abortion. His wife divorced him and yet he has 59% of the vote. I'm sorry but there is simply no way to understand how people in Tenn could vote for this man!

True. I hope the people still waiting in lines to vote, do not go home because it would be very nice to take the popular vote as well I really wish the media would wait and let everyone vote before they project their winners. I live on the West Coast and for years before we had even voted, the networks would announce winners. No offense to the East Coasters but we get the shaft on almost every major event--sporting events, awards shows and elections!

Congrats to Barak, I so wanted him to win again. The problem is in the mid part of American "democracy"! More people need to enter politics from grass roots level and suceed to the Senate and HOR to be able to pass what Obama needs to get the USA back on track. With all the Republicans sitting there, it's stalemate again. But we can only hope.

Re: The First Presidential Debate
What an exciting night last night was.
Obamacare and other plans were explained on TV. Good, it sounded like America will be very different after this 4 year period.
Target is: everybody could have the same of everything. Unfortunately it costs and these expendatures don´t pay for themselves. Fiscal cliff on January (the burden falls disproportionately on the lower middle class).
This is by no means new idea – the communist manifesto has exactly same elements and Lenin´s collective works even in more details about healthcare. Lenin statement that in order to have complete control of a state/people, first the govt. has to control medical care. Other sectors Lenin targeted were: banking and education.
Same things that we heard last night on “ forward” America speeches and it´s 2012, amazing. It truly is. But is it “forward” or “ Backward” or “back and worth” remains to be seen.
And what was the alternative? Who knows. God bless America.
