Who do you think has been the best director so far? I think George is doing pretty well in this lineup.

Ryan Gosling, George Clooney, More: The Best Actors-Turned-DirectorsStars who weren't just dab hands in front of the camera

It's fair to say that the arts of acting and directing are fairly different, and not all Hollywood heart throbs can turn their hands to becoming great directors as well as stars infront of camera.

However with Ryan Gosling turning director in 'How To Catch A Monster' we've had a look at some of Hollywood's best actors who've

Although some are, shall we say, a little controversial (Mel Gibson) all have gone from making audiences swoon at them on screen to impressing critics and audiences with the merits of their movies.

Others have become directing legends in their own right, like Clint Eastwood, or Shakespearean impresario Kenneth Brannagh. Finally there are those who are just starting out on their cinematic journey like Gosling.

So without further ado, here's the best actors turned directors!

Mel Gibson - Directed 'Braveheart' and 'The Passion of the Christ', starred in 'Mad MAx', 'Lethal Weapon'

Sofia Coppola - Starred in 'The Godfather Part 3' Directed 'Lost In Translation', 'Marie Antoinette'

George Clooney - Star of 'Batman and Robin', 'Three Kings', 'Syriana' directed 'The Ides of March', 'Good Nightr and, Good Luck'.

Kenneth Brannagh - Directed and starred in numerous Shakespeare adaptations, directed 'Thor' [he directed Thor????! He was responsible for that hot mess???!!!? - katiedot]

Robert Redford - starred in 'Butch Cassidy and The Sundance Kid', directed 'Ordinary People'

Ben Affleck - starred in 'Armageddon', 'Hollywoodland', directed 'The Town', 'Argo'

Clint Eastwood, star of 'Dirty Harry', 'A Fistful of Dollars', directed 'Unforgiven', 'Million Dollar Baby'

Ryan Gosling in 'Drive', he is set to direct new movie 'To Catch A Monster'

Ben Stiller, star of 'The Royal Tennenbaums', 'There's Something About Mary', directed 'Reality Bites', 'Zoolander'

I think Clint Eastwood is the Actor/Director most other Actors look to for inspiration....he has accomplished so much. I seem to recall GC even saying that in an interview.

I personally like Kenneth Brannagh....although I didn't know about Thor Laughing
