I truly dont understand why people would hurt children, either thru abuse or the bombing in Italy. Children are the purest form of innocence.

Yes, until the world (or their parents) teach them otherwise... Children harbor no ill will and trust implicitly. Then they are subjected to abuse, or bigotry, or any myriad of behaviors that if you stepped back and took a look at, would make you appalled. Parents fighting constantly in front of the kids; trusted authority figures (teachers, priests, etc) taking advantage of them; other children perhaps a bit older also abusing them... and they start to become less pure, less trusting, less childlike.

We are all products of our environment.
