Thanks Melbert!! I've been following his career for 17 years, does it make me a good fan?! But I did not know more than half of the things you ladies do, I just knew the work and that was it. Embarassed

I guess I am overanalyzing what makes someone a fan... oh well... maybe I am not fond of the word fan (as I don't like the word chick) ... I feel that it puts me automatically in the FANatic category Shocked

They just weren't that happy! I think some are a little upset even though I believe the signs have been pretty clear things weren't well for a long time. Eli talked it up and that was a big mistake on her part. She got a lot out of it and looks fine so no need to feel bad for her. I have been lucky enough to have seen this all before several times now and it always ends the same way. Next girl we will get the same thing no need to get too upset about things. He has no plans on getting married or really all that serious just the girls he goes with like the attention the rumours get. Eli a little too much! And George got a couple of new fans maybe he also lost a couple who got a bit fed up with all the games. That happens too!

Well, his personal life is his. As long it is not affecting him and his work and he is happy, who cares?! These women know where they are getting into it and it seems that at one point they want more than be a girlfriend (I am not talking about marriage), they seem to go crazy about becoming famous through association... So, they are not all that naive, you know?!

Yes, he has done more than show off his ass. Does it not bother you that he doesn't like women who have too? Not just sexually, but at all. Canalis was a long term girlfriend, not a casual fling. He thrives on intellectual challenge and he picked someone, again, who has nothing to say that he is interested in hearing. His close friends are male, she was the women he chose to accompany them. Where are the intelligent women he spends time with?

His personal life is his own, but all of you care about it, such that you feel able to freely criticise someone because she is exactly the thing that he likes in a woman. Any bets that the next one will be different? Doesn't it insult you just a little to have your intelligence held worthless?

I’m sorry that you feel that way and I don’t believe Eli was innocent in this outcome. If she was exactly the thing he likes in a woman, they would still be together. You're welcome, Perhaps I wasn't being clear. Canalis is exacly what he likes in a date - good ass and brainless. I can't see anything he likes in women, he doesn't have anything to do with them.

I know only what is plain for all to see. Canalis had no education, talent, knowledge or interest in any of the things that inspire George. Neither did Sarah Larson, Lisa Snowdon, Krista Allen, the French one and as far as I know, everyone else he has dated since his marriage ended. Is that a coincidence or is it all he wants from women? What a great guy.

Nothing wrong with that! Hope you stick around. Everyone has the right to a positive or negative comments about George or any of his exes. Its the member bashing for making a comment that is wrong, IMHO.

Open House is the "new kid on the block", but many of us here are/were posters else where (blogs, forums, message boards). Many of us HAVE expressed our feelings towards George about the women he dates. tongue

I believe George dates women like Eli because it keeps him safe from actually really falling too hard and he knows he would never marry them. Sort of self preservation if you will. I'm not worried I actually respect him more for being honest about it. Eli was never going to be Mrs Clooney i said it all along and yes the next will probably be similar. I expect her to be! George wants to concentrate on his work if he was married and getting divorces or having affairs then I would lose respect for him. But as far as I am concerned George is honest it is the girls who tend to try and take things further. They were together two years but we all know that they didn't spend that much time together for the last 6 months. I don't feel bad for Eli or the others they all get money and attention out of it in return. I also believe he is honest with them they just start to believe their own press and think they will change him. I think the boys are around for him to have his intellectual conversations with as none of his past couple of girlfriends seem all that smart. He seems to have it worked out so it doesn't bother him too much until the end!

Dex, I think you may be right. Dating someone expressly because they are dumb enough to limit the life of the relationship is no way to treat anyone. It's like playing intellectual uglies

What concerns me is not who he dates or for how long but that he doesn't seem to see men and women as of equal value. You say he has the boys around to talk grown-up with because 'none of his past girlfriends seem that smart'. He chooses women who are not that smart, at this point it cannot be coincidence can it? He doesn't choose his male friends that way, quite the opposite, and his close friends are all male. He seems to distinguish quite clearly between men, who have minds and can be trusted, and women, who are for sex and cannot. I hate the idea because he is a smart and thoughtful guy. Smart and thoughtful and horribly sexist?

He does have friends who are women who have been around long term who are smart etc. But he does choose too spend time with the boys. I think he probably is more old fashioned then he would like to admit on some levels. He is the first to admit he still likes to open doors etc. I doubt he would put up with a women who is smart and talented being discriminated against around him. But he does know how the game works. Have you watched Unscripted? You should, Krista is in it but it has some very true to life parts. George dates girls like Eli because if they were smart they wouldn't do it in the first place! They aren't little victims they know the score and are more then willing to play. Yes George picks them but I've said why I think he does that.

We just saw that here in Germany with our legendary goalkeeper Oliver Kahn. Like George he used to date the famewhore type of women for a couple of years and yesterday he got married:
To an extremely beautiful woman who is nothing but a famewhore, who prefers to stay out of public and is really classy.
When looking at them I tend to think there is still some hope for George, at least in the type of women he chooses.

Hi, "How Many People like George on this Forum? I dragged up this older discussion because I don't know if anybody picked up the real reason for his "relationship" with Eli.

Think of it, plain and simple, she's arm candy, and has given him more press (good or bad) than he ever expected. And he didn't have to do anything, he just had make sure she got herself out there. AND she was either dumb or gullible to go out there and make a fool of herself. IMO it's all a PR ploy.

I've been a fan of his for around 2 years. I admire him for his kind-heartedness.

p.s. Yea, I'm now a Clooney-phile. Is that like a pedaphile?

He did get more press, that’s how I started following him back in November. I admire him for his humanitarian effort and the sadness he felt when it didn’t accomplishing his goal in Sudan like he wanted and as quickly as he wanted. And look now, they have their independence! George always gets a lot of press IMO it doesn't matter who he is with family, friends, the boys, all he has to do is show up anywhere there are paps/photographers even people with cell cameras, When you don't see pics or articles in the tabs it's because he is keeping a low profile. This is just my opinion from observations and following him on the net.

@ello, I don't know if nonAmericans will ever understand "the boys" but I understand it perfectly. My husband also had his "posse" most men in America do have their "the boys" group who they hang out with almost more than their wives/children. Mine was a biker when I first met him and his "the boys" were a gang of bikers.

Then when we had children and he settled down and left the biker friends behind, he formed another group of "the boys" and they went out to the desert on the weekends camping, four wheeling, drinking and shooting off their guns at targets and critters. I think it's more of an American way of doing things and you'll find that same story everywhere here. For some men it's cars and car shows, some it's hunting, some it's baseball or other sports which they play on intermural teams and bond with other men. There's dozens of different outlets which draw groups of men together for entertainment or just to "hang out" together.

And to give George the benefit of the doubt in my opinion, once bitten twice shy...and he was bitten twice actually from longer term relationships with women. I don't think he's ever forgotten the bitter battle of divorce or the way things went down with Celine either. Both cost him more than he was willing to give and we all know he works very hard for his money and I think that's the actual reason for the long list of bubbleheaded bimbos, who are clear from the beginning that it's his way or the highway and they're willing to play his way and to go along for the ride.

I must be missing something here. My girlfriend buys TONS of the gossip magazines (Star, OK, People, etc.) and gives them to me and I very seldom saw him in them (except of course when he and Eli broke up). The same with the Hollywood news programs (ET, etc.). I know because I always look for him. They seem to focus on the young stars.

What keeps my Clooney fantacism alive is all you ladies on this forum. And I want to thank you for that.

He's not in the gossip magazines that often, true.

Not sure if that's because his PR team generally don't pimp him out to the paparazzi - no need to because he is an A-list star already - or whether the average age of people who buy these magazines are younger and not his demographic. Although that doesn't explan why Tom Cruise or Brangelina are always in them.

He used to do that sort of press when he was up and coming, trying to make his mark - there are interviews (genuine inteviews,not rehashes) with People and Us magazines in the archives section here, but in the past 10 years or so, he's backed away.

If he wanted to be in these magazines every week, he could be. All he'd have to do is turm up on red carpets, at launches, parties and the right restaurants. Irrespective of whether he's alone or with a girlfriend, he'd get his pic taken and printed in the gossips. His PR team just need to phone up an alcohol company or drop him off at a gifting suite and that copany's PR team will do all the running, making sure "George Clooney drinks XYZ" makes all the publications.

That he doesn't do that tells me something about his PR strategy.

When he was dating SL and before, he was on the cover of mags VF, W, People, to name a few, not your trash mags. But since the SL experience you don't see him as often, during that time I would see him on ET, AH,TMZ, more than once a week. Maybe that is what made him make so many changes.

Lucy, on an interview with Charlie Rose a while back he said "I'm getting tired of seeing myself, and I like myself." He also said he doesn't want to become more famous. Sounds a little narcissistic but I know what he meant. His keeping a low profile now is probably good for him but bad for his hungry fans.

Hey Lighter, hey Cindi, hey everyone. I do understand about guys having guy friends, believe it or not English guys work in just the same way. Not so many motorcycles, football instead of football, that's about it. What I don't get is a smart man picking a dumb girlfriend. My only experience of that is where the guy is an asshole. I was hoping for some alternative explanation.

I don't think Eli was PR, or at least she in particular wasn't. He may think he needs a familiar girl for the red carpets that the press knows he didn't order in that afternoon, I don't know, but she is his type. They are all the same. Also she was hopeless. She has no dress sense at all. He could have stuck a pin in the phone book and got more professional arm candy.

Men have their guy friends. But there is something missing in George's picture that most men have these days, a relationship of equals moreorless with a woman. Without that, and with a circle of close friends that is exclusively male, and his creative partnerships are all male, and his activist circle are too...you get the picture? People say George does exactly what he wants. Why does he want a life without women? If nothing else, we buy the damn movie tickets, don't we, without which nothing.

I wish I could find the video on youtube mentioning George's fall out with the press, after they published him kissing Celine in a very personal moment. He even talked to some of them saying he was not going to do any more interviews with some of them. Some of the "journalists" in the video criticized him since he had a pretty close relationship with the press before... Maybe he didn't change completely, but he did a bit...

I forgot her name, but I thought it was with the woman who is now married to the Mayor of San Francisco. There are a couple of photos of them getting off his bike and he had kissed her.

@ello well I'm going to stand by what I said originally, he was "bitten" badly, not once but twice and he's not going to let anyone of substance get close enough to do it again. He knows right from the start with the likes of Betty, that it will be how he wants it and when he wants it and he's in no danger in the matters of the heart, which got him into trouble twice before, as I said.

He fell hard for both of those women and he may have acted like an ass in the end but that depends upon whose perception/version of the stories you listen to but and this is a big BUT he got burned bad enough to leave a LASTING impression and I firmly believe that is the "why" of it...thank you very much Celine and Talia!
