I'm sure there are times to talk with actors, and times when they need to focus and cant be interrupted. I've heard overall that George is very nice to people on set

The stories I have heard have all been very positive about how George treats people on set. I don't think I've ever heard of him being unkind to someone on a set. Except for the director he got in a fight with and that was because the director was treating someone badly.

As an experienced theatre actress myself, all directors act like NFL coaches during rehearsals, but they are nice individuals off the set. They are under pressure and a time constraint while they are filming, so they have to act like platoon drill sargents to get the job done. If it works in the military, it works elsewhere. Just let it go in one ear and out the other, VV. At least he is not smiling in your face and stabbing you in the back.

Given that George was directing Ides in addition to acting in it, I think if he was rude it might have been because your friend picked an inopportune time to try to talk to him.

Timing is everything.

Over the years most people have said George is considerate and kind while working. Maybe Ryan seemed nicer because he didn't have 3 jobs on IOM.

I have heard over the years just as many negitive as positive things about George.....and not from the tabloids; but from people who known him and worked with him...he is not a saint and I am very sorry you were hurt by him...I have worked on movie sets most of the directors are very respectful of the talent working for them...

Your friend was an extra? What opportunity or reason would he have to interact enough with George to be treated rudely? Most of George's scenes in that movie were with the primary supporting actors, without many extras around. He was director and producer as well. The shoot was relatively short for a major motion picture. Scenes with lots of extras are usually handled logistically by a production manager and the first assistant director (unless it's one of those choreographed car chases or a building exploding or something.) I'm sure there wasn't a lot of time or chance for George to hang with the extras.

Wouldn't extras be told to behave professionally and follow instructions from the production manager/ assistant director?
Like not approach & casually chat to the actors or director while they're filming.
Tight schedules, long hours & deadlines restrict socializing on set.
If one extra tries to befriend the main cast, then others would too, & there'd be no time to film.

You're right Cynisca. Extras are put in a holding area that is far from the principal actors. On set, they are not to talk with principal actors unless spoken to first. I've done principal and background acting, and on the Shield, stood two feet from Forest Whittaker, who I know, and could not talk with him since I was "background".

There IS a holding area. i was sitting in there for hours LOL. You see more of the holding area than you are on set. I remember playing UNO for hours and hours with a group of other extras. yes, my friend probably should not have even said BOO to George. the rule is do not speak to the actors unless they speak to you first. he probably tried to get away with it and got shot down.
he did have enough time to say good morning to a group of us. at one point so he was okay then. ( the stress came on later) he pretty much had three jobs and could barely take a breather. i remember calling him a busy bee a while back LOL.

That's what I'm doing. FYI, there was a past issue with me quoting or specifying by name, so I chose not to do it.

it started off at someone i know said that george was rude to one of my friends and we figured out that he was doing triple duty so it would've been hard to be friendly to an extra because if you are friendly to one you have to be friendly to everyone and when you have three jobs it is difficult... that should sum it up

There has to be a certain hierarchy on set to keep the people on their places and sometimes there can be situations that make extras feel like second class human beings.
One time I heard a woman of the team shouting at an extra, because she wanted to grab a snickers from a plate on her way to the set. It was later in the afternoon, we were all a little hungry and the plate with the sweets had no sign on it "Not for extras".
She shouted like hell, how the woman could dare to touch the snickers, she had to lay it back immediately, those were ONLY FOR THE TEAM. In the end the poor woman was crying and felt like the last piece of rubbish. And I had a nice discussion for dinner when I told the team woman I did not like the way she treated the other woman, but she didn't shout at me, she might have had some survival instincts.

oh i know there is a table there for extras and a craft table for the actors and crew and if anyone touches that crew table , the crew get really upset. i have a few stories on that one. this one guy was sneaking stuff off the crew table he got away with it the first two times and then he got caught. then he wondered why he wasn't called back the next day. he thought he was being slick but they ARE watching.

No, this plate was on the way where you had to pick up your props. The caterers were walking around with the plates before and left one between the props or this stupid woman deposited it there without telling that it was not for extras.

When TIOM was shooting in Cincinnati, there was a call for extras for the movie. I did not go because of the winter weather; it can get very bone-chilling cold in CIncinnati in January/February (yes, it was just that when those outdoor scenes were filmed in the Northside neighborhood). At that time, it was made known that the extras would not get paid or have any benefits of any kind for their participation in the movie. At least in the old Hollywood days, the extras would get a boxed lunch as compensation (a big boon during the Great Depression when many people were poor).
