Amal Clooney cuts a chic figure in stylish red dress as she steps out for press freedom event at the United Nations in New York City

She leads a decidedly busy life, raising 15-month-old twins, Ella and Alexander, with her husband George Clooney, while working as a human rights lawyer.
And Amal Clooney was spotted attending to her professional duties on Friday morning, as she made her way to the United Nations to attend the Committee to Protect Journalists event in New York City.
The 40-year-old beauty looked typically chic in a stylish red dress, which hugged her enviably slender frame, as she prepared to make an appearance as a featured panellist at the event, held to discuss press freedom and imprisoned journalists.

Stepping out: Amal Clooney was spotted making her way to the United Nations to attend the Committee to Protect Journalists event in New York City on Friday morning
Standing tall in a pair of vertiginous nude heels, the mother-of-two carried a camel coat, which perfectly complemented her taupe handbag.

With her raven locks falling beyond her shoulders in voluminous waves, she highlighted her natural beauty with a rich palette of makeup, while glittering drop earrings further illuminated her flawless ensemble.
Over the past few days, Amal — who welcomed twins Alexander and Ella with Hollywood star George in June 2017 — has been busy with meetings at the UN.

She previously told Vogue how her romance with George, 56, came about after she attended a party at his house on Lake Como, Italy.
After, the pair exchanged emails, with George taking on the guise of his dog Einstein, pretending he was in need of legal rescue.
She said: 'I was 35 when I met him. It wasn’t obvious that it was going to happen for me. And I wasn’t willing or excited about the idea of getting married or having a family in the absence of that.

George had previously said that they went on a safari with friends and he took a photo of some giraffes that had come up to a smiling Amal - and in that moment, he had an epiphany that he should propose.
Amal also told Vogue that their 10-month-old twins Ella and Alexander have already said their first words and climb in bed with the couple both between six and 8am. (Amal won't take calls before then).
She said coyly: 'We’ve had some "Mamas" and "Dadas." George was very careful to ensure that "Mama" was the first word.'
She noted that their routine is easier now than when they were first born as the bed was full of 'weird cushions and pillows and machines,' at that time.

'Mass murder is not a state secret': Human rights lawyer Amal Clooney tells Myanmar leader Aung San Suu Kyi to release two journalists imprisoned for reporting on massacre of Rohingya Muslims

 • Amal Clooney begged Aung San Suu Kyi to pardon two imprisoned journalists

 • Wa Lone and Kyaw Soe Oo jailed for seven years for reporting on Rohingya crisis

 • Mrs Clooney pleaded with leader to pardon the two men after letters from wives

 • She added Suu Kyi was kept in the same prison so knew of the men's suffering

Human rights lawyer Amal Clooney has pleaded with Aung San Suu Kyi to pardon two journalists jailed in Myanmar, saying the Nobel laureate held the key to their release.
She use her address at a UN event in New York to beg the de facto Myanmar leader to pardon Wa Lone, 32, and Kyaw Soe Oo, 28, who are accused of breaching Myanmar's state secrets law under the colonial-era Official Secrets Act while reporting on the massacre of Rohingya Muslims.
The two Reuters journalists jailed in Myanmar were imprisoned for seven years earlier this month, sparking international outrage.
Earlier this month Suu Kyi defended the jailing hitting back at global criticism of a trial widely seen as an attempt to muzzle the free press and the Myanmar government's involvement in ethnic cleansing.

Reuters Editor-in-Chief Stephen Adler alongside Mrs Clooney. She added that massacres were not 'official secrets' and so journalists should not be prosecuted for reporting on the Rohingya killings
Today the British-Lebanese human rights lawyer told an event dedicated to press freedom at the United Nations General Assembly, that Suu Kyi knows what is is like to be a political prisoner, having spent time held at the same prison and should free both men.
She said: 'The government can, if it wants to, end it today. She knows that mass murder is not a state secret and that exposing it doesn't turn a journalist into a spy.
'She holds the key, the key to their liberty, the key to reuniting them with their young children, the key to freedom of the press.
'The key to truth and accountability, and the key to a more democratic and prosperous Myanmar. History will judge her on her response.
'Aung Sang Suu Kyi knows better than anyone what it is like to be a political prisoner in Myanmar.
'She has slept in a cell at the prison where Wa Lone and Kyaw Soe Oo now sleep.'
Suu Kyi, once garlanded as a global rights champion, has come under intense pressure to use her moral authority inside Myanmar to press for a presidential pardon for the reporters.

Myanmar's Aung San Suu Kyi (left) has defended the imprisonment of two journalist who reported on the Rohingya massacre and (right) Mrs Clooney makes the case for her client's release at the UN in New York today
Mr Clooney added that the reporters' wives wrote 'a really heartfelt letter' to the government about a week ago pleading for a pardon, not because their husbands had done anything wrong, but because it would allow them to be released from prison.
The reporters pleaded not guilty and have been detained since December.
Kyaw Soe Oo has a three-year-old daughter. Last month, Wa Lone's wife gave birth to their first child, a girl, whom Mrs Clooney said Wa Lone has not yet met.
Mrs Clooney said the audience that when she was a student at St Hugh's College, Oxford, the Nobel peace laureate, who studied at the same college 30 years earlier, had been a hero to me'.
Army-led 'clearance operations' drove 700,000 Rohingya into Bangladesh, carrying with them widespread accounts of atrocities including rape, murder and arson by Myanmar police and troops.

Mrs Clooney said: 'Aung Sang Suu Kyi knows better than anyone what it is like to be a political prisoner in Myanmar. She has slept in a cell at the prison where Wa Lone and Kyaw Soe Oo now sleep'
The case, which sparked an international outcry, was seen as an attempt to muzzle reporting on last year's crackdown by Myanmar's security forces on the Muslim Rohingya minority in Rakhine state.
A UN mandated fact-finding mission said Myanmar's military carried out mass killings and gang rapes of Muslim Rohingya with 'genocidal intent' and called for top generals to be prosecuted.
The reporters say they were set up while exposing the extrajudicial killing of ten Rohingya Muslims in a Rakhine village last year.
'This case is about much more than two innocent men,' Clooney told Reuters after the event.

'If you care about press freedom you care about this case ... Without a free press you cannot have democracy because you don't know how to judge what your government's doing.'
Mrs Clooney, wife of Hollywood actor George, announced in March that she would join the legal team representing the two jailed journalists.
She added that said Myanmar's President Win Myint would make the decision to issue a pardon in consultation with Suu Kyi.
The Committee to Protect Journalists (CPJ) said a record 262 journalists were jailed worldwide in 2017, with Turkey, China, and Egypt responsible for imprisoning 134 of those journalists.
