While we've always admired Amal Clooney's style, the human rights attorney has been taking some major fashion risks lately.

The latest came last night when she stepped out to dinner in New York with husband George Clooney wearing a hybrid of denim cutoff shorts and black leather pants that will have you doing a double-take.

At first glance, Amal's look could be denim cutoff shorts styled with insanely high over-the-knee leather boots à la Julia Roberts in Pretty Woman. At a closer look, however, she's not wearing thigh-high boots at all but instead, a pair of pants that combines both denim cutoffs and leather leggings all into one.

The trippy layered pants, which feature distressed denim detailing at both the top and ankles, are actually by Alexander Wang. Retailing for $2,200, the statement-making bottoms are still available to shop at Barneys and Ssense. If the full-length version is too much for you, there's also a denim and leather skirt iteration available at Shopbop.

Amal never seems afraid to take a chance with her fashion choices. I don’t think she is a fashion victim as much as she just likes to wear what appeals to her whether people find her choices questionable or not. She’s been criticized before for some of her outfits but she dresses for herself, not everyone else.

Just because someone else wouldn't wear it doesn't make it wrong we all have different tastes.

Your style should show your personality, I think Amal's shows she has a fun personality and when not

working isn't that serious.

George Clooney and Amal Clooney know how to do romance right.
The couple stepped out for a dinner date in N.Y.C. on Thursday, where the 40-year-old international human rights attorney currently has a job teaching at Columbia University.
Amal looked stylish as ever wearing a floral fur coat and leather leggings attached to a pair of denim daisy dukes from designer Alexander Wang. George, 56, opted for a simpler ensemble, wearing a grey jacket over a black top with jeans.
George and Amal dined for two hours in SoHo at french restaurant Raoul’s and appeared to be in a great mood as they were spotted leaving.

What you wear represent more than you can ever imagine.... that is why uniforms are a mainstay and of such importance... what we as individuals wear is to an extent our “uniform” ... who we are, what we represent - our job, our family, our country, our tribe, our class/cast/religions ... you name it. George Clooney and his wife Amal Clooney managed to put some room for date night into their busy schedules when they stepped out for dinner in New York City.

On Thursday evening, the couple was spotted holding hands as they headed to French restaurant Raoul's in SoHo with their matching denim looks.

George opted for faded denim jeans, a black turtleneck and grey jacket. As for Amal, she was photographed wearing a floral fur coat and leather leggings.

And yes, we also spy some denim daisy dukes from designer Alexander Wang over those leggings. Nice touch, Amal!

George and Amal Clooney stepped out for a romantic date night at Raoul's restaurant in NYC on Thursday. The couple — who welcomed twins Alexander and Ella in June 2017 — appeared to be in a good mood as they flashed sweet smiles and held hands. At one point, George even showed us that chivalry is alive and well when he assisted Amal into their car.

The pair's cute outing comes just a few weeks after George and Amal took part in the March For Our Lives rally in Washington DC. The duo showed their support for the movement in late February when they made a whopping $500,000 donation to the cause. Amal also discussed the importance of it at this year's Watermark Conference For Women, saying, "The new generation, the young people, feel empowered to make a change, and frankly, they are the ones who should have the platform. You missed the point it’s not the “expense” in this instance.....it’s a question of judgement...and sensitivity towards clients, peers, and the example you set on your own little stage... this applies to all of us ... We all stand on shoulders of others....

The yellow and blue coats are beautiful and the colors work so well on her. I especially love the yellow coat (stunning with her dark hair) and beige boots. Great combo.

The daisy duke outfit is not an attractive look IMO. Amal does go way outside the box sometimes and wears outfits that very few would appreciate or think as ugly. But I admire her for wearing what she likes...whether I like it or not. She pushes the fashion envelope. It shows confidence IMO. I don’t know that she sees her choices as mistakes as much as trying to have fun with her clothes.

I really like the fact that Amal is this serious, smart and accomplished lawyer who has a sense of humor and playfulness with her fashion.

Amal's recent date night looks have been a trend in some circles for a very long time.

Also, I can't take Amal serious as a Human Rights attorney when there is more written about what she's wearing, than the Human Rights cases she is working on.

Amal is a Human Rights attorney, hosting the Met Gala with an A-List celebrity and a World-Renowned fashion designer. In her defense, I have to believe the latest articles of her leaving and arriving is to bump up her "fashion" presence as the Met Gala approaches.

Other than the people on this blog, after four years of marriage who really cares when George Clooney and Amal Clooney go out the dinner?

In my humble opinion, the media production at the front door and the detailed account of what Amal is wearing is WAY OVER THE TOP.

I think fashion on her off time is her way of letting go and having fun, her job is very serious.

People who like George and Amal yes Amal shocking I know, like seeing them George has fans around the world. So it's not

I have no doubt the people she represent take her work seriously and I don't think they care what she wears or how she represents herself. Everybody is important to somebody.

I have already mentioned it is a no, no to talk about Amal's work without mentioning "Amal's team of attorneys". People will think you do not know what you are talking about. By the way, when the media refers to Nadia as Amal's client, they NEVER mention a team of attorneys. Do you know if Amal is Nadia sole attorney or is Nadia's case Amal with a team of attorneys?

You can't convince me the media production we saw on Friday was not rooted to Amal and the Met Gala. A blue leopard print dress with a blue fur collar coat and trench coats in every color is over-kill, excuse the pun (inside joke).

Annemaire, I understand you and I are NEVER going to see I to I when it comes to Amal. I love George Clooney without measure, because of that I try to respect his relationship with Amal. How Amal dresses speaks for itself.

Ladybug, it might be worth you looking at the Amal work thread on here which includes loads of info about how a barrister operates and information from her chambers about all the cases she is working on.....she's her own boss, has a staff and works in conjunction with other legal houses around the world. You'll note in the press that when the Myanmar journalists were in court again this week another local lawyer made a statement to the press waiting outside. He will also be representing Reuters in conjunction with Amal who has joined the case. As she said in Austin she is now working with the Thomson Reuters legal team in NYC and she's been retained by them.

I imagine that she uses her own team and employs people who can help Nadia in every way possible. Obviously it must help that her Arabic is fluent. And there can be no doubt that this is a pro bono case

The articles of late are more about what Amal is wearing, than the work she is doing. It's hard for me to take Amal's work as a Human Rights Lawyer seriously when that is the case. Even when the article is about her work, what she is wearing and how much it cost is documented. It's clear to me Amal is passionate about her fashion, there's nothing wrong with that. However, when more is printed about what your wearing than the cases your working on that's over-kill in my opinion.

I have to be honest, what I've read about the cases she has worked on, I'm NOT impressed. I've expressed that in great detail on more than one occasion here. In the press I heard over and over Amal Clooney represented Julian Assange. There was even a "Who once to be a Millionaire" question about Amal representing Julian Assange. When news surfaced he's a nut, it was THEN STRESSED Amal was ONE of a team that represented him, I still find that funny.

I was "flogged" so badly about Amal and Julian Assange I take great joy in pointing out when others fail to mention she works with as one of a team of attorney's. I was pretty sure she was the sole attorney representing Nadia, it was nice to point out she does work on cases where she is the "sole" attorney and I'm sure she has a research team that helps her on Nadia's case.

Amal has her fans here, I'm not one of them, she does just fine without my support. Most of Amal's conservative (work) outfits I love and a lot of her red carpet looks I love. And I've expressed that here. Amal's latest date night looks and media coverage remind me of reality show personalities trying to get attention. I have to believe the attention paid to her fashion is linked to the upcoming Met Gala.

I first learned of the Ball when George Clooney and Julia Roberts hosted. The Met Gala is a our modern day "Cinderella" experience. With Amal being so into fashion, it has to be super exciting to be one of the host this year.

So far, I have not been impressed with Amal's cases, if she was not in a marriage relationship with George Clooney I would not know who she was or take the time to comment on what she's wearing.

Well it depends what papers you read doesn't it?

Lawyers and QCs can't always take the cases that are bound to win. Who would take many who've, say, murdered and defend them. Human Rights law is often about states and country's treatment of vast number of people eg Nadia is a Yazidi many many of whom were left on a hillside in the middle of somebody else's war and killed and tortured by ISIS. The fact that the UN have been persuaded by her and her team legally to finally condemn ISIS after all this time and seek evidence to take to court is quite something don't you think.

In actual fact, I'm not a fan per se. I have enormous respect for all her hard work in the higher echelons of international law. She has worked extremely hard to get where she's got and has a multitude of cases and was internationally renowned before she ever met George.

The fact that she's also fun, a great wit, and has the right dimensions for all sorts of sartorial fashion for all the trivia rags to feature - as well as Vogue! - is a bonus.

No wonder George fell for her.

You'll note in the press that when the Myanmar journalists were in court again this week another local lawyer made a statement to the press waiting outside. He will also be representing Reuters in conjunction with Amal who has joined the case. As she said in Austin she is now working with the Thomson Reuters legal team in NYC and she's been retained by them.

I imagine that she uses her own team and employs people who can help Nadia in every way possible. Obviously it must help that her Arabic is fluent. And there can be no doubt that this is a pro bono case
