Re: Long ago interview with Mariella Frostrup
PAN I just read this interview. I don't think I ever read it before. I can see why there were rumors of these two getting together. I don't believe them but the way Mariella wrote about George one could just imagine that she would have been game.
There is so much revealed in this interview that I have to think about it a bit and possibly reread it before I comment. But it provided great insight into our guy.

BRILLIANT!!! What a lucky, lucky lady! I am so jealous! A view of skin between his shirt and jeans while he lay on the floor at her feet??!! How on earth did she keep herself from jumping his bones??
Do we have this article in the archives? I can't believe I missed it. One of the best George interviews I've read. I found his remarks on his childhood especially enlightening. Really explains a lot.

Re: Long ago interview with Mariella Frostrup
PAN,
thanks for finding this incredible interview!
I read it really carefully and even translated it into German to get everything correct. This is awesome!
It shows that George pretty much had the same opinion on important subjects 15 years ago (well, except his opinion on marriage). About being famous, wanting to make good movies, work with good directors etc. He said at that time that he's more successful than he ever imagined he would be. I'd love to know what he would say now...
And it's really interesting to read how much his parents influenced him.
You can feel how fascinated Mariella is by George.
I'd love these two to do the same interview again, talk the same issues. But I'm not sure he would open up as much as at that time...

Re: Long ago interview with Mariella Frostrup
carolhathaway. I agree. I loved this interview. And it is amazing that George has pretty much kept the same perspective on filmmaking, his fame and keeping it real.
He is and has been very close to his parents. I think his upbringing has greatly influenced the type of man he has turned out to be. He seems proud of his parents
and appreciates (now) that they taught him, sometimes much to his annoyance, how important it is to give to others, be empathetic and appreciate his good fortune.
Mariella is actually a good friend of George's. She, her husband and I think their son (?) have visited George in Como.

Yep. He's godfather to one of her children.
And of course she is married to...a human rights lawyer, Jason McCue

Carolhathaway - I'm pretty sure he'd give her the same answers (except about marriage, obviously) because he's been giving the same answers for the last 20 years - almost word for word. If he didn't believe it then, he's probably convinced himself by now that all of it is true just by repeating it so many times.

Have you see the film, 'I me Wed'?
If not. I think this link will let you watch it. Its about a girl being tired of everyone trying to talk her into meeting guys and getting married...
