New additions to Suburbicon Cast 08/31/2016

I love the cast, I can't wait to see Matt in that role.

So Noah Jupe........now has George directed children before? I'm not sure...

Right it's me. Leatherheads is the only movie that I can think of in which George directed a child. Noah Jupe's role will be more substantial. George has worked with many child actors so I think it will be a comfortable situation for him.

I remember a few children in Monuments Men. There's a scene where -if I remember correctly - somebody tries to shoot John Goodman and Jean Dujardin in a bombed city, and it's a boy who tries to shoot them. Then there's another scene where Bill Murray and Bob Balaban visit a dentist's cousin in his hut because he had stolen art from Jewish families, and there are two boys.

And the scene with Nick at the end of MM.

It sounds like at least some of the movie will be filmed in LA which is supposed to start filming next month. And I think PAN had mentioned a while ago that the production team was scouting locations in Georgia? Right?

it's me, what are you so nervous about? Are you afraid George won't do a good job on this film? I think it's a chance to show just how good a director he is. Since he didn't write the script (the Coens did) and he isn't acting in it, all he has to do is focus on getting the best out of a great cast and editing a great cut . I think he can do it!

I'm happy that he decided to direct only. It's a chance for him to get his "touch" back.

I think he needs to really establish himself as a director, since that's where his career is headed. Unless he gives up film altogether he'll need to prove that he can direct movies that bring audiences to the theater - not blockbusters or mega-hits, but good, solid, critically acclaimed movies that people want to see. That's how he'll be able to continue getting the best people to work on his films.  I think he can do it, but he needs to make it his top priority and not be distracted.

There's a disturbing scene with sexual undertones between two children in Confessions of a Dangerous Mind, which would have required a lot of sensitivity and a delicate hand to direct as well as he did.  This should be miles easier.  

While I still wish he would have diversified his cast a little more (I know, I know, ), it does sound like a great movie. Fingers crossed it's a hit for him.

Missa I don't even remember that scene in Confessions. Im having brain freeze. Thanks for pointing it out.
I've got to watch Confessions again.

Suburbicon is right in George's wheelhouse. He should be able to shine in this one. So my fingers and toes are crossed for him.

I think that's part of the plot, yes, but possibly not all for Noah Jupe.


Think he'll cope. His mum is in a long-running soap here in the UK, his dad is in film production and his CV's pretty amazing. He's currently filming with Jacob Tremblay and Julia Roberts, I believe

That kid looks smart and experienced. 
What intrigues me more is the complex relationships between the adult characters, with a solid cast. Most of them had the Coens experience before. Matt Damon playing a bad guy again, cheers!

I adored The Night Manager....Hugh Laurie played this boys Dad, George can get a first hand account of his "on the ground" attitude to the work...

I know nothing about making movies....and I love Matt.....but....I felt Monument Men....well...ummm....I just couldn't wait for him to get off the horse and cart and inhabit the role....I waited....

Every experience is just that....a learning curve,  an experience.....Both George and Matt have had the experience....Game on lads.....

For decades Matt has this "calm nice guy" image on the screen, so does he in MM, but when he starts playing an anti-hero or villain, so much drama and surprises are to be expected.

I thought Matt was terrific in 'The Talented Mr. Ripley'. A departure from his usual "nice guy" roles.

Hmmm. My guess would be that George and Grant decided to split the writing and directing duties to allow better focus on both. And I'm sure that with Grant as a credited writer but George spearheading the acquisition and directing, they are collaborating as intensely as ever. Grant may even have rewritten or rewritten scenes or sequences according to George's vision as he storyboards the project. 

I don't think being an uncredited writer is a huge thing to George. He'd much rather get the director accolades, I think.

This is a good thing all around, IMO.

Okay, Matt is going to have a very high-profiled 2017. First the Great Wall in February(directed by my favorite domestic filmmaker and hometown hero ZhangYimou), though it's to be released in China around Christmas as the first ever Hollywood blockbuster produced immensely in China. Looking forward to that one. Then Downsizing and Suburbicon for the awards season. Gosh, he's worked with three of my favorite directors in the same year! I do wish Suburbicon would be the best film among them.
(Actually he just came here for the Jason Burne promotion and Great Wall reshoots.)
