Re: Amal Clooney and The Lost Art of Dressing for the Occasion
I agree she does enjoy dressing for the occasion and looking nice. She is simply having fun with fashion which is what fashion is for to have fun and express ourselves. I love that she isn't cookie cutter sweat pants and ugly sneakers , I love seeing a woman who likes dressing up.
As for the cost if you can afford the best why not buy it. Then a gain i'm one of those people who love seeing how the really rich live and spend their money.

Re: Amal Clooney and The Lost Art of Dressing for the Occasion
One of the things that intrigues me about Amal is her style. Obviously George feels the same way.
If for no other reason it would be great to hear from her about her passion for fashion. She has a very serious job dealing with the intricacies of the law. Lots of reading, writing. And yet she has this love for dressing up. Wherever she goes. She always makes the effort to look great but according to George she does so in an effortless way.
I love seeing women dress up. Even for a shopping outing, lunch or a casual dinner out. Wearing jeans has become such a staple of women's fashion for so many years. I always appreciate getting creative with jeans but it's really nice to see women enjoy the art of dressing. Amal certainly takes it to a higher level but most women can get creative no matter their budget.

Keep in mind the article is running in Vanity Fair. Clooney country, just like People. Believe half of what you read and none of what you hear.

Your right Donnamarie we can all be creative no matter how much we spend if we choose too. I think so many women are afraid to try new things so we just look the same, my daughter always says too each their own style is personal if you enjoy it and feel good why should you care that others wouldn't wear it or don't like it they don't have too.

is there anyone else out there who does not give a damn what they or anyone else wears? I don't have the money or time to climb on the fashion merry-go-round.

I always notice what women wear. I really enjoy clothes. It's a way to express yourself ... reflect your mood and your personality.

Re: Amal Clooney and The Lost Art of Dressing for the Occasion
I don't know where else to post my comments. But wanted to say that I love the Paula Ka dress Amal wore for her interview at the LA house. Beautiful dress. Great detailing with the pleating. And it looked great on her. I think form fitting clothes really flatter her slim figure.
I also thought she looked very feminine in the white dress she wore to lunch with Miliband. I thought those shoes were awesome. I could never wear them but they were a perfect pick to go with the dress. With her choice of the handbag it just confirms for me that Amal is very talented in putting fashion pieces together to make them work for her.

I also like her choices for dresses and think that she puts a lot of effort in it. And I like that she differs between her working style and her freetime dresses.

I've seen loads of handbags advertised that are
much dearer than that.
I liked the colour combinations with Amal's
Ivory coloured dress in the pictures featuring
David Miliband.

I liked the shoes she wore for the dinner with Miliband. They were racy.
The dress was allright, a bit boring. The handbag was nice but I wouldn't pay 1500$ for it.

I didn't know that Annemarie. I love the pleating and detailing (buttons down the back) on this dress. It looks very elegant on her. Amal took a classic piece and updated it in a subtle way. In this case the shoes.

So $1300 dress to go to the animal shelter? That really is dressing for the occasion. I hope they made a hefty donation above the adoption fees.

Re: Amal Clooney and The Lost Art of Dressing for the Occasion
Well, we know for a fact that George's donation when he adopted Einstein allowed Camp Cocker to adopt five other dogs and for them to have all the operations and treatment that they needed, since when he's adopted another one, so I can't believe they haven't done the same this time around.
The other thing is we have no idea how many other times or occasions this dress has been used for before. Just becos this is the first time we've seen it doesn't mean it's just for this visit...........

Re: Amal Clooney and The Lost Art of Dressing for the Occasion
I'm sure George and Amal give a donation to the shelter but that's just speculation. At least just the PR for this shelters and shelters in general and adopting animals rather than buying designer animals is priceless.
About Amal's dress I agree with PAN. I often think the same when I read comments about her on websites like the fashion blog which is dedicated to her when peopke also assume that she hardly ever works and is just a 'stunt lawyer'. We see her (and George as well, of course) about once or twice a week for a few minutes, and we really imagine that we know how they live, love and work?
We know the price of her wardrobe because of these websites and critizise her for wearing these expensive clothes. Well, somebody has to buy and wear them, otherwise they weren't made. And nobody critizises other celebrities for their wardrobe. I once read in an article about an actress (can't remember who it was) that she wore twelve different outfits - all high-end designer outfits - within 24 hours. She wasn't critizised for that, instead she was praised for her good choice and taste. Again, we don't know if Amal pays for her clothes or if they are given to her for free, and we also don't know how often she wears them. Maybe George has 100 pairs of his Levis jeans - is he critizised for that? Maybe he's given them for free as well - do we mind? Maybe he gets a new suit ir tux for every red carpet (except the Golden Globes where he recycled his wedding tux)? Maybe his shoes, shirts, socks and underwear are handmade and cost thousands of dollars?
And I'm not even talking about other celebrities and what they wear. We see a photo of a singer or an actress and think: "That's a nice dress!" Or "Wow, she looks gorgeous!" and don't even think about how much this costs, although it's Dior, Armani or another famous designer and is as expensive as Amal's dress.
Of course the prices of Amal's wardrobe are exceptional, and we all can't afford to buy any of them (although her jeans, sometimes her shoes and earrings aren't that expensive), but that's our point of view. I'm sure George and Amal are not ruined by her clothes...

Re: Amal Clooney and The Lost Art of Dressing for the Occasion
People want to think of George as that boy from Kentucky , he is that man from Kentucky who is rich and can afford the best that money can buy.
George and Amal live a very different lifestyle than we do, Amal wears clothing that fits her lifestyle one of wealth.
George has expensive homes , cars and a wine collection none of these things are cheap. I would not expect his wife to dress any differently than she does , if he has the best I'm sure he wants her to have the best and makes sure she has it.
George doesn't dress in cheap clothing either .

you're right.
I didn't even think about his homes, cars and travelling. I'm sure they often use private flights. And if you think how often he uses his house in Mexico, I can only imagine how much his lifestyle must cost...
But I also it's not easy for him to find a place where he can relax and is not disturbed by fans who ask for autographs of take selfies. I guess that's the price you pay for being famous...

Re: Amal Clooney and The Lost Art of Dressing for the Occasion
Does wearing expensive clothes and having a wardrobe of mostly designer clothing make someone less of a thoughtful and caring person? Should someone be judged by just the clothes on their back? Does one assume that a person is selfish because clothes are important to them? It is so easy to judge someone on looks alone.
George and Amal are privileged people living a privileged lifestyle. They are aware of that. I don't know personally how Amal gives back but I do know how George does. We do know that Amal does work with humanitarian organizations. And then there is her work. Defending human and equal rights under international law. Some of it pro bono. I have no reason to find fault with her as a caring and thoughtful person. Wouldn't think George would have ever been attracted to any woman who was self-absorbed.

Re: Amal Clooney and The Lost Art of Dressing for the Occasion
Donnamarie,
couldn't have said it better!
It IS easy to judge someone on his looks and his interests. It's so easy to pigeonhole somebody, and it makes life so much easier to say:" Well, this woman is good-looking, dresses well and wears make up. So she has to be superficial."
We don't even know about Amal's interests and hobbies, the only thing we know is what George and also Cindy Crawford said about her. So it again comes to my mind that I would love to see an personal interview with Amal...
