Cassamigo at TGIF Restaurants

Just in time for Cinco de Mayo, you can pair those bacon-wrapped stuffed jalapenos with George Clooney's top shelf tequila.

Casamigos, the spirit the actor originally created with his friends for their own personal consumption, is now available at TGI Fridays.

The tequila launched in 2013 and marketed as "ultra-premium" with a price tag around $50 a bottle.
Casamigos will now be available in participating U.S. Fridays restaurants. Handout/Handout
Casamigos will now be available in participating U.S. Fridays restaurants.

While it may raise some eyebrows to sell the luxe spirit at a restaurant that offered an all-you-can-eat unlimited appetizer promotion last year, Casamigos co-founder and owner Rande Gerber isn't worried.

"We pride ourselves on being all inclusive as opposed to exclusive," Gerber told the Daily News. "After all, it is called Casamigos — house of friends."

The partnership was launched on Cinco de Mayo, along with a signature Ultimate Casamigos Strawberry Margarita. The restaurant chain will debut a spicy margarita made with Casamigos this summer.

I know it's about $50 a bottle in a liquor store. I wonder how much it will cost for one drink at TGIF? Probably cheaper to drink it at home! Very Happy Very Happy

I should have had a Casamigos margarita tonight in honor of G's BD.  forgot.  California Pizza Kitchen serves Casamigos margaritas and it costs about $9.00-9.75. That's on par with many specialty drinks at these kinds of restaurants.

I forgot too! I had a mojito instead.  And a lot of cheap red wine.  Blearghhhh.

Anyway, back on topic: anyone else think it's a bit of a backtrack from 'high end tequila' to 'on the menu at TGIF'?

Lots of mid priced restaurants with full bars carry higher end priced liquors.  I don't go to TGIF's but places similar in menu will always ask me what kind of vodka I want in my drink and Grey Goose is an option.  Casamigos is certainly not the most expensive tequila out there.  G and R I would think would want to get their tequila out there to the masses. $$$$$$. If they got a deal with Costco that's a good deal.

Making it more of a affordable commodity can only do good.....the old saying is "a little but often" in the commodity world....George may have suffered by the Cassamigo brand being perceived as an expensive once in a lifetime brand.....because of it's "jet set" fronting......This is a great move to wipe that perception clean.....BUT it will still take time to "take off" fully .....

WWHS - I hope you're right and it takes off soon. My neighborhood liquor stores still feel it's too expensive to carry. Sad

The Costco in my area started carrying it a few months ago, I think. I don't drink, but I asked a manager about it. They can't keep it in stock. The caterers and event planners snatch it up as soon as it hits the shelves. Literally, crates at a time. Very popular at weddings and corporate affairs in these parts.

I think the Fridays move makes good business sense, too.  For instance, I don't know about other cities, but here, Fridays are acceptable lunch or dinner business meeting spots. Wouldn't hurt for a rising exec to enjoy the taste of Casamigos there, then carry that taste along after a promotion, when 50 bucks a bottle is nothing.

I'll bet they had a good sales day yesterday.
