Amal Clooney Proves Orange Is The New Black - lunch at Morandi in NYC

Where was her gorgeous hubby?
Amal Clooney turned heads today in her head-to-toe chic orange ensemble as she grabbed lunch at Morandi in NYC, and the sexy human rights lawyer's hair and makeup were on point as well. Does she ever leave the house looking less than perfect? We think not!
We bet more than a couple students will be hot for teacher when the 37-year-old leads a course as a visiting lecturer for Columbia's law school Human Rights Institute this coming spring. "It is an honor to be invited as a visiting professor at Columbia Law School alongside such a distinguished faculty and talented student pool. I look forward to getting to know the next generation of human rights advocates studying here," she said in statement when her position became announced.
Luckily the brunette beauty's new gig won't take her away from her A-list actor husband's side. The Monuments Men star will be filming his latest flick Money Monster in the Big Apple at the same.
Life seems effortless for the world's most envied woman!

Wow, the Daily Mail video looks pretty scary to me........

Amal Clooney nails the Seventies trend in orange top and caramel midi skirt as she talks a walk in downtown New York
She is never seen in the same outfit twice and international human rights lawyer Amal Clooney nailed the Seventies trend when she enjoyed a walk in downtown New York on Tuesday.
The 37-year-old looked incredible as she stepped out into the sunshine wearing an orange sleeveless shell top with a caramel collar detail.
She tucked the zesty number into a heavy silk caramel skirt which had a pleated detail at the front and cinched in at the waist with a skinny belt.

A step back in time: Amal Clooney looked lovely in a Seventies-inspired outfit as she took a walk in downtown New York on Tuesday
She held her hair back with a pair of stylish sunglasses, with her raven-locks styled into loose waves.
Amal is in the city to teach at the University this Spring as a visiting lecturer and a senior fellow with the law school’s Human Rights Institute.

Back to school: Amal is in the city to teach at the University this Spring as a visiting lecturer and a senior fellow with the law school’s Human Rights Institute
She said in a statement: 'It is an honour to be invited as a visiting professor at Columbia Law School alongside such a distinguished faculty and talented student pool.
'I look forward to getting to know the next generation of human rights advocates studying here.'
Amal, former adviser to the former United Nations secretary general Kofi Annan, notably advised the Greek government in its battle to repatriate the Elgin Marbles from Britain.

Lunch break: Amal later paid a visit to Morandi restaurant in West Village and emerged looking very cheerful

Always working: She carried her lecture notes in her hand as she made her way back to the campus
While Amal will have a lot of commitments with her teaching work, her husband will be close by to her as he will be filming his latest movie in New York.
George, 53, is set to start work on Money Monster, along Julia Roberts and Dominic West, with the film slated for release later on in the year.
The couple tied the knot in late September in Venice, Italy.

The cover paper she's carrying has NYU Law letterhead.
The title of the page reads The Law and Practice of the UN: An Advanced Course for Diplomats.

Maybe she's teaching a course for diplomats. Hasn't she already done the same for judges?
She's wearing a great outfit. But no coat... I'm freezing in her place.

I think on the outside Amal is this cool and sophisticated Brit but on the inside she's a hot blooded Lebanese spitfire. She's a complex woman who never gets cold.

The high today in NYC was 48 degrees F.
If you've been walking around in temperatures much lower than that all winter - especially how cold it was - even a few degrees higher would feel warmer.
I live in LA. We have people that work in offices in the East coast.
It will be 50 degrees out here and I'll be in three layers. An East coast associate will come here and walk around in just their shirt sleeves.
I'm cold but for them, it's warm.
So maybe that's all this is. It's warmer than it's been, her body is used to colder weather and she didn't feel cold in what she was wearing.

I've started to wonder whether Donnamarie is an associate of Amal, or maybe Amal's pr, or a family member, or Amal herself?

Because nobody but someone associated with Amal could have positive things to say about her? Give me a break. You're out of line here, throwing unsubstantiated accusations like that around.
And now I'm sure you'll accuse me of being Amal's cousin or something.
Since you have nothing but negative things to say about her, did Amal run her car over your cat? There must be some association with you. RME.
Stop with your witch hunt.

Oh lighten up would you? you can't even recognise a tongue-in-cheek comment. You're the other cop I noticed..quick with a rebuttal and slap on the hand of anything vaguely critical of Amal. But whatever, I don't care what u have to say.

That was supposed to be tongue-in-cheek? Please. Seemed pretty damn clear to me you were pointing out that Donnamarie probably has an agenda or something. Funny how you're quick to hide behind "humor" as an excuse once you're called out on your accusations. Whatever.

kat19, I was expecting certain posters to not like my comment and reply on this thread, so I wasn't trying to "hide behind humour" just because you replied...but i happened to particularly dislike your comments, and your warped perceptions. ow that I noticed it, I also take offense to u saying i was "making accusations" too, and your "witchhunt comment (seriously??). To think I slept through all of this.
mel01, yes I confess I'm Amal's personal stylist/pr person. How'd you guess? Just looking out for my client. She pays me a lot of money to make her and keep her looking good in the public eye. How am I doing?

She may not get cold, but she will get pneumonia if she keeps running around like that. And I don't care if it is only from the door to the car. It hasn't been warm enough here to dress like that yet - no coat, no stockings - No matter how smart she is, dressing like that in the changeable weather we've been having is stupid. I guess if she wears a coat you can't see which designer dress she's wearing.Donnamarie wrote:

This isn't LA! Women here do wear coats and hats and scarves and stockings and boots and gloves and... until the weather stays warm for more than 15 minutes. Just because the sun came out doesn't mean it's summer. Ask PigPen, who just got more snow!!!

At one time this site was fun now is increasingly frequented by horses with blinders that they do not see the side so you can not even consider the fact that the "beautiful" Amal go around dressed in summer in the cold NY. I miss the objective and intelligent people who once frquentavano this site but they all emigrated. Kate do something!

That's a weird comment to make. If you claim "they all emigrated" that means you are saying none of us are objective and intelligent. I think there are lot of users here , including me , who are objective and intelligent. And I don't feel like a horse with blinders.
Kate can not "do" something. It's is you who can do something. You either accept it or not but please don't complain about other users and this site just because you don't agree with them.
I mean really do we have this talk now because of the weather I thought weather talk is fun

I made that comment about Amal tongue-in-cheek cause I have no clue why she's not wearing a coat but I just thought what the hell. Maybe she's hot-blooded to the point of not feeling the cold. Who knows why she didn't wear a coat. She arrived in a car and went right into the restaurant. Maybe she left the coat in the car. She didn't seem to mind by the look on her face so we shouldn't. Now if I was dressing her that day I would have suggested the beautiful trench she wore to Columbia the other day. The neutral color would have worked perfectly with her orange outfit.

Re: Amal Clooney Proves Orange Is The New Black - lunch at Morandi in NYC
It's highly possible that Amal has deals that require that she actually show the clothes the designer provides. Why else strut out in a sleeveless shirt or short dress or whatever and no cover-up, when everyone else is still in at least a jacket?
I think that, more often than not, when she's wearing a coat, she's modeling the coat.

Mm, I'm not sure. I don't think she needs to do that. I think she'd prefer to be independent and if, as described, she's a spontaneous person, choose what she likes, sans stylist.
It's not as though she needs to endorse anybody. To be friendly with a particular designer is different.
But I do think her relationship with Anna Wintour is interesting. Wonder if she's known for a quite a while.......

Donnamarie - Not annoyed at anything but our crappy weather. Can't tell you how many times in the last few days people have told me they went outside thinking it was finally warm and froze their buns off! Happened to me a couple of times myself. You hear on the news that it's 45 or 50 degrees and when you get outside it feels like 20!
Personally, I couldn't care less if Amal wants to run around without a coat. If she gets sick, I'm not the one who'll have to take care of her. I was going to say George can fly her mother in to make her chicken soup, but she probably can't cook either. I guess George will have to do it.
Way2Old and PAN - It does seem as though she is developing special relationships with a couple of designers. Maybe she chooses the clothes she likes and they are loaned to her on the condition that she makes sure they get noticed. That way she gets to wear what she likes at minimum cost and the designers get free publicity. Just a guess. Or maybe Anna Wintour sees to it that she gets everything wholesale.

I honestly don't think money is discussed at all - be it the words 'minimum cost', 'free publicity' or 'wholesale'.
It seems to me that the connections are much more subtle.

Lizzy did you think I was annoyed with you when I made my last comment here? I absolutely wasn't. Sorry if I sounded short. If I sounded a bit exasperated it certainly wasn't with you. I just sometimes think we here harp on little issues that we just cant explain cause we don't know very much about Amal or the marriage. We're trying to figure out Amal mostly.
I agree that she should have been wearing a coat but for a reason we don't know she wasn't. It's bewildering but only to us. Amal knows what's she's doing and why.
And we're having crappy weather this week too. Cold and wet outside. Then tomorrow it's going to be 80 degrees. With thunderstorms. Go figure :/

Re: Amal Clooney Proves Orange Is The New Black - lunch at Morandi in NYC
PAN - I don't think they actually sit down and talk about the benefits to both sides if she wears a designer's clothes, but I'm sure there's an unwritten understanding that they both do benefit from the arrangement.
I do think at some point they have to talk about money. She needs to know how much, if anything, the clothes are going to cost her. And the designers need to know if she's going to pay them in money or publicity. Is she going to keep the clothes or return them? They are in business to make money and can't afford to give their clothes away if they don't get something out of it, IMO.
Donnamarie - No need to apologize. I think the weather is getting to all of us. That's what I was bitching about in my post. Not so much what Amal was wearing or why. Honestly, I don't care. I just think dressing for summer while it still feels like winter is stupid. But, like I said, if she gets sick it's not my problem.

You could be right, Lizzy - and it wouldn't surprise me at all to find out that she simply pays for everything she likes outright. She is an independently wealthy woman in her own right, who used to buy brands and labels long before she was married.
Since she was introduced to Valli by Wintour a year ago, I'm sure he'll be showering her with everything - just think of the free publicity that's worth more than any Vogue supplement.

I just can't imagine Amal owns every designer piece she's been wearing. Again we just don't know. But she is giving these designers incredible publicity as you said PAN so maybe there is some mutual arrangement of some kind like Lizzy said.

Hello lelacorb. I will assume I am one of the horses with blinders. You are probably not the only one here who thinks I'm a boring poster because I almost always defend Amal.
I used to post on Clooney Aficionados for a short time last summer. There were many posters there who made negative comments about Amal and her family. When I challenged some of the things they were saying about her a couple of the posters just said they were having fun. I shouldn't take so seriously what they were saying. Then a poster made a comment that if George wasn't careful not to cross Amal's family then he just might get beheaded like the photojournalist who just got beheaded by ISIS. Well that was enough for me. They crossed the line.
i feel the women here are pretty fair about George and many who love him like I do. But there are some here who don't care for Amal. I assume you don't either. I can understand that and as long as the criticisms are reasonable then I try not to argue the point. But if Amal's character is attacked because her dresses are too short, she pushes her hair away from her face too much, she smiles for the camera too often, her legs are too skinny, she's a publicity seeker or she doesn't wear a coat when it's cold outside then I'm going to defend her. I have no reason to believe her character or her values should be attacked because she looks a certain way in a picture. But some posters like to make insinuating and snarky comments because they want to have fun and at her expense. Maybe that is what you would like to read more of here.
So I apologize if I bore you, that you find me unintelligent and not entertaining enough. Maybe at some point I will stop posting here if I feel that I don't fit in anymore. And maybe you should check out Clooney Aficionados. You might find it more to your liking.
Have a nice evening.

Donnamarie - I guess I'm one of those people who is critical of Amal. I've said before that there's something about her that I don't like although I can't put my finger on just what it is. (I also don't think she should wear her skirts so short, but that's just me being old fashioned, I guess.) All that being said, I give her full credit for being well educated and making the most of her education and her chosen profession. My criticisms of her here have little or nothing to do with her character and are based on her appearance and the persona she projects in the media. Having never met her I can't speak to her actual character or values.

Didn't like this outfit. Orange and beige are not her colours. I am a varmblooded person who live in a cold climate and I don't go out without a jacked in the middle of the winter or early spring. To me it is obvious that she is doing it to show off what she is wearing.

I can understand why some of you here don't like her but don't really know why. Amal is someone I admire but at the same time, I think she's too perfect. She has it all. She's got a great professional career and she maybe isn't even at the height of it, she's intelligent, she's very pretty and she has a great style (most of the time), she seems nice and friendly and sociable. Think about it: doesn't everyone know this kind of woman in their surroundings? This is something you could easily be annoyed by sometimes, because she's too perfect. And on top of that, she's married to George.
That's just my opinion. And I sometimes don't like the way she holds herself in front of the cameras either but I've decided to not really care anymore and stop looking at those video clips.

Codexchick, as much as the media pushes Amal being this perfect specimen of a woman we all know she isn't. She can't be if for no other reason than no one is perfect. There is just so much we don't know about her. We do know only through a friend that she used to smoke and she had an issue of running late to meetings. i would like to know so much more about who she is. I think she is a very interesting woman and would love to hear her talk about why she wanted to be a lawyer, what drives her and her passion for fashion. Until we find out more through her or her friends who are willing to talk we have to contend with the media's perceptions.

I have formed my opinion on her being too perfect mostly on my own. I've had that opinion from the beginning, looking at her CV and early pictures of her in London. It's the way she carries herself. And of course, we've never really heard anything negative about her... Of course no one is perfect, we all have our flaws. But in my opinion, a person who smokes and runs late all the time, can be perfect if you look at the big picture, the whole persona. I've said it before: the brains, the looks, the style,... I guess you can only understand what I mean when you know someone like that. And I just have that feeling with Amal.

Re: Amal Clooney Proves Orange Is The New Black - lunch at Morandi in NYC
Amal definitely has so much going for her. And she accomplished so much on her own before George. To me that's significant because she owns her success. I think many of us here perceive her differently and that's the rub. When someone has so much going for them like Amal does there are going to be those who are envious, resentful and not convinced that she really is how she is perceived. And I'm sure she has her faults. But basically I do think she is a pretty amazing and substantial person. I certainly envy her. And she has George.

Re: Amal Clooney Proves Orange Is The New Black - lunch at Morandi in NYC
A few thoughts, Lizzy.
George is a serious person (with a sense of fun certainly) and so is she. She went to a state school in the UK, worked incredibly hard so that she got an exhibition into St Hugh's, Oxford (her heroine's college, so the human rights was always there) and basically flew.........And according to those who know her she's a good laugh too.
I think he's a reflection of her in that way. His beliefs are hers - but from the word go he knew women adored him, and he got a bit diverted at times! And it paid off!! Look at his career.
I think he was always going to go for someone with strong beliefs and interests outside Hollywood. His background of caring for others and right and wrong was what he was brought up with and he stayed grounded, so in that way they complement each other.......
Whether she is perfect is another matter - but without a doubt he thinks she is. And that's all that matters

Hi Lizzy. Whatever I say is nothing more than my feelings about what George is really like. I have lots of thoughts about him that I don't share here because it's nothing more than how I perceive him.
I don't think he was looking for the perfect woman. I don't doubt he thought about getting married again. I think especially in the last two or three years he thought about it more. He's getting older. The dating scene can be exhausting and because of who he is every relationship he has gets put under the microscope. He may not have known what he was looking for in someone to spend the rest of his life with but I think he thought she'd have to be very special. Besides the obvious qualities that attract him to certain women I think his expectations were high. Nothing against the women he dated in the past but I don't think in his mind he wanted to make a permanent commitment with any of them. He wanted someone outside his circle. Again without knowing I can only guess when he met Amal at first she was a challenge for him. Just to get her to go out with him and then the more he got to know her he found that the qualities she possessed were what he was looking for. And he's not intimidated by strong women. And I think he loved that she was a strong minded, independent, self-possessed woman who had accomplished so much at a relatively young age. And they shared the same values and humanitarian interests. I think all those qualities were very seductive for him.
I said way too much here. I've got too much time on my hands today. And ten other posters will have ten different opinions.
Bottom line I think there's a lot about George we don't know. He probably doesn't share his innermost feelings except with those who are very, very close to him. And because of that some people are still scratching their heads wondering why the hell did he get married.
