Darren Aronofsky To Direct George Clooney In Human Nature

A few months ago, comic book fans and moviegoers were excited when Darren Aronofsky was named director of “Wolverine 2″. Would this be Aronofsky’s “The Dark Knight”? Would this be Aronofsky’s crossover to a mainstream audience? Well, no. Aronofsky dropped out of the project citing family issues that would get in the way of the production. Personally, I think Aronofsky was put off by not having final cut on the project.

Vulture is reporting the director of last year’s surprise hit, “Black Swan”, will helm a fifteen-year-old screenplay called “Human Nature” written by screenwriter Jeff Welsh. It is also reported that George Clooney is soon to be attached to this project as the lead. The story of “Human Nature” is somewhat vague but it follows a man who is cryogenically frozen and years later when he wakes up from a long sleep, he finds a new world where humans are now pets for an alien species. Sounds chilling!

From the looks of things, Warner Bros seems to be the studio behind Darren Aronofsky’s next feature. This project sounds interesting and of course, I look forward to any Darren Aronofsky film. The man has yet to let me down.

I know this isn't new news, but I liked the title:

Aronofsky's post-Wolverine plans? Freezing George Clooney

We know that Hugh Jackman has been getting some other projects lined up since The Wolverine was put on hold, but what is director Darren Aronofsky doing since he left the project?

According to Vulture, Aronofsky is possibly going to direct a science fiction film called Human Nature. It's based on a screenplay by someone named Jeff Welch (who once wrote a script for an unproduced movie about Marvel sorcerer supreme Dr. Strange) that's apparently been kicking around for 15 years. The plot follows a man who is cryogenically frozen and wakes up in a future world where humans have become pets of another species. It's not clear if that means an alien species or if we're looking at a Planet of the Apes-type scenario here.

George Clooney is reportedly interested in starring in the project, which will be produced by Akiva Goldsman (I Am Legend) for Warner Bros. If the film gets the green light from the studio, it will be Aronofsky's next picture.

The director is currently held in high regard following the enormous box office and critical success of his psychological horror tale Black Swan, but he started his career with the indie sci-fi feature Pi and returned to the genre five years ago for the vastly overlooked and underrated The Fountain. He's also toyed in the past with remaking RoboCop and adapting Batman: Year One for the screen.

The Wolverine was set to be his next film, but Aronofsky left the production abruptly in March, saying he was concerned about being apart from his family for a long time while the project was filming in Japan. Between Aronofsky's departure and the aftermath of the April earthquake and tsunami in that country, a new start date for The Wolverine remains up in the air. In the meantime, Jackman may take a fantastic voyage while waiting to put his claws back on.

Are you interested in seeing Aronofsky return to sci-fi, and does this project sound like the right one?
