It is said that one reason George Clooney married Amal Alamuddin was to give him gravitas
But relax, folks, because just the woman to sort it out is on the scene. Angelina Jolie has announced she might be going into politics, just like her friend George Clooney, with whose new wife she has yet to be pictured. That’s a relief.
They say that irony doesn’t come across in print, so just to clarify: that is meant to be completely ironic. What on earth did we do to deserve that lot in charge of the free world?
Of course they have yet to stand for anything, let alone be elected, so we may yet be spared. But while Angelina and George clearly have their hearts in the right place, there’s quite a big difference between being pictured looking fetching with a group of orphans, thus bringing publicity to their plight, and dealing with the actual reason for their plight, namely wars and poverty.
Angelina may look great on the red carpet and no one wears sunglasses like Gorgeous George, but the thought of those two anywhere near the White House gives you a chill of fear.
Actors can become successful politicians of course – Ronald Reagan springs to mind – but the fact is that people who spend their lives pretending to be someone else are not the people we need at this time of intense international insecurity.
In Yorkshire they put it succinctly: “The trouble with actors is that you never know when they’re acting.”
President of the United States would undoubtedly be the role of a lifetime, but please, spare us. I know it’s well in the past, but Angelina used to wear a phial of her then husband’s blood round her neck. Don’t let that be a metaphor for us all.
Incidentally, it is said that one reason George married Amal was to give him gravitas. Instead, it appears to have had the opposite effect, turning her from a respected human rights lawyer into a clothes horse. That’s Hollywood for you.

TERRORISM in the Middle East, ebola, global poverty – there’s no shortage of things to worry about.

Have to agree with this author. Jolie going into politics? Big mistake and shows what years of inhaling second hand pot smoke and shooting heroin will do to your brain. Oh ok "alleged heroin shooting"
Spare us all indeed!

Re: Spare Us ANOTHER Celebrity Politician
This is media hype 101. Jolie only said she was "open" to political office, diplomatic or public service. Thats pretty broad. And the media jumps all over her comments. PLEASE. George has not talked about it at all. It was all the media speculating now that he has married this brilliant lawyer its opens the door for him to run for office. It just gives media white space to fill. There is nothing there.
If either one decides to go that route well then we can jump all over them but there is nothing to report for now.

Golly Gosh......I'm glad that I live across the pond
where none of this affects me. LOL
Mind you....there's one or two things here to get concerned about....like a whopping great account for nearly 2 Billion Euros the Government has received
from the E U, payable by 1 December.
Our PM said "They've got another think coming" LOL
