Bill Murray Day' Planned for Toronto International Film Festival

The Toronto International Film Festival will celebrate Bill Murray Day on September 5th, commemorating the actor's career with public screenings of three of his biggest movies — StripesGroundhog Day and Ghostbusters — and ending with the world premiere of his latest effort, St. Vincent, Deadline reports. Murray has also agreed to participate in an audience Q&A following St. Vincent to discuss both the film and his career.

Tickets for the three Murray classics go on sale at 8 a.m. on September 5th at the TIFF Bell Lightbox box office; the movies themselves begin that same day at 10 a.m. with Stripes. Up to 50 people who attend all three screenings will receive free tickets to the premiere of St. Vincent later that evening.

"Though the festival cannot Groundhog Day the Bill Murray Day, a contest will be held to reward Murray fans who attend all three free screenings," organizers joked in a statement. "But, really, everyone is a winner on Bill Murray Day."
The celebration of all things Bill Murray adds to an already packed Toronto International Film Festival, which runs September 4th through the 14th. The festival opens with the Robert Downey Jr. legal drama The Judge and will also feature the worldwide premiere of Jon Stewart's directorial debut, Rosewater. Other notable flicks — and potential Oscar contenders — include Reese Witherspoon's Wild, Jake Gyllenhaal's noirish Nightcrawler, and the North American premiere of Foxcatcher, which tells the story of Olympic wrestling champions Mark and David Schultz (Channing Tatum and Mark Ruffalo) and their schizophrenic benefactor, John du Pont. Steve Carell plays du Pont, in what many critics have said is an early front-runner for Best Actor.

As for Murray, St. Vincent (directed by Theodore Melfi) finds the actor playing a cranky old man with a taste for drinking and gambling, who is tasked with taking care of his new neighbor's 12-year-old son. The actor also just wrapped on Barry Levinson's new comedy, Rock the Kasbah, which will open on April 24th, 2015, according to The Hollywood Reporter. Murray stars as a floundering rock manager who takes his last client on a USO tour of Afghanistan and ends up stranded in Kabul, where he ultimately guides a young girl with an amazing voice through the country's version of American Idol. The cast also boasts Bruce Willis, Kate Hudson, Zooey Deschanel, Danny McBride and Scott Caan.
