I feel your pain. LOLDonnamarie wrote:There is new Vanity Fair article about George's visit to the set with some additional insight and his meeting with Maggie Smith. Just found it online. Unfortunately I'm incredibly computer challenged and not sure how to share the link here. But if you Google George it's the first item. Sorry.

What Happened When George Clooney Kissed Downton Abbey’s Dowager Countess

Last week we learned that George Clooney had secretly visited Highclere Castle to tape a specialDownton Abbey–themed skit. At the time, we knew little about the sketch, other than that it would air overseas during a holiday charity telethon called Text Santa. And sadly, the actor would not appear on the actual series as a recurring character named Lord Clooningham. But now, a week later, we learn several delightful details about this top-secret project.
The intel comes from Downtonactor Tom Cullen, who plays Lady Mary’s love interest, Lord Anthony Gillingham, on the series. While appearing on the British talk show Lorraine last week, Cullen was pressed for details about the anticipated Clooney cameo. And instead of staying mum or cheekily diverting the conversation—the usual strategy of Downton Abbeysecret-keepers—the actor divulged several behind-the-scenes bits. Among them:
Additionally, The Guardian now reports that Clooney will share screen time with Hugh Bonneville’s Lord Crawley and Michelle Dockery’s Lady Mary. The same outlet alleges that Clooney will play “an American character who is a guest at a wedding in the country estate.” The scene is said to have been filmed four months ago and, according to The Sun, the cameo was facilitated by Bonneville, whom Clooney directed in The Monuments Men.
Per the paper:
There is a chance that the holiday special will make its way to U.S. screens before the fifth season premieres stateside, on January 4. Until then, take a look at our coverage thus far of what to expect from the British drama’s fifth season.

And instead of staying mum or cheekily diverting the conversation—the usual strategy of Downton Abbeysecret-keepers—the actor divulged several behind-the-scenes bits. Among them:
- He was not on set for Clooney Day. (While we love Lord Gillingham, this revelation does not bother us . . . it seems as though secondary Downtoncharacters should work their way up to earning Clooney’s company.)
- Maggie Smith, who plays the series M.V.P., the Dowager Countess, wason set for Clooney Day. (Which gives us hope that the actor not only shared a scene with the revered Oscar-winning actress, but that he also possibly shared alternating shots of his Casamigos tequila with Smith.)
- Clooney, understanding the customary etiquette for greeting a screen legend like Smith, offered the 79-year-old a kiss.
- Smith accepted the kiss and reacted as anyone who receives this type of affection from Clooney traditionally does. Said Cullen: “She collapsed onto the sofa.”
This is the biggest moment in Downton history and shows it's now the biggest drama in the world. All the plans have been shrouded in secrecy because George was determined for his role not to leak out...George and Hugh became really close during filming and it became very clear that George loved Downton.
There is a chance that the holiday special will make its way to U.S. screens before the fifth season premieres stateside, on January 4. Until then, take a look at our coverage thus far of what to expect from the British drama’s fifth season.

The creators and cast have obviously decided to talk about this
And to think that I was guessing that Dame Maggie might have been giving His Nibs one her withering looks and a put down......

Downton Abbey creator Julian Fellowes praises George Clooney's cameo: 'It was a great privilege'
Downton Abbey creator Julian Fellowes says it was a “great privilege” to have George Clooney appear in a charity special .
The Hollywood silver fox recently visited Highclere Castle in Hampshire to shoot scenes for a mini-episode of the period drama for ITV’s Text Santa charity and Fellowes, 65, was effusive with praise for the Hollywood A-lister.
"George Clooney very, very, very kindly agreed to come and be part of a little special we did that supports the ITV group of charities,” he told the Mirror at a CTBF charity screening of Downton in London’s Leicester Square last night. “It was a great privilege and pleasure to have him on the set, and he was very sweet to do it.”
Fellowes got the impression Clooney, 53, is a fan of the long-running series, joking: “He did seem to like the show. Of course, he would say that, wouldn't he?”

George's visit is enough to make the Dowager swoon
The acclaimed writer is notorious for writing every Downton script himself and led the team who penned the exciting charity special, which will screen around Christmas.
"We all worked on the script and it was marvellous,” he said.
Laura Carmichael, 28, who plays Lady Edith Crawley, was overjoyed by Clooney’s cameo as she admits to being a huge fan.
"I might have been on set,” she teased. “He's completely gorgeous but also an incredible talent. His career is incredible. He's a very kind and brilliant man.”

Laura looked a world apart from Lady Edith at the event
Carson actor Jim Carter, 66, meanwhile, joked that he offered the Oscar-winning actor some grooming advice before he stepped onto the famous set.
"He asked me for a few tips actually and I said, 'George, George, George, just try and spruce yourself up because you're a sadly plain creature.' He was thankful for my advice,” Carter quipped.

Dame Maggie Smith 'faints' after Downton kiss with George Clooney

She had won fans across the world for her starring role in Downton Abbey, but it seems Dame Maggie Smith may have another accomplishment to add to her CV: a kiss from George Clooney.
Dame Maggie, the veteran actress who plays the Countess of Grantham in the period drama, will swoon as she receives a kiss from Clooney in an upcoming episode, according to her co-star.
The usually-dignified Countess is expected to faint in a "comedy fall" onscreen, as Clooney joins the regular cast for a cameo role in a charity episode of Downton.
The actor, who secured a part on the show after becoming friends with actor Hugh Bonneville, is set to win the Countess over in a one-off episode.
His appearance was confirmed at a premiere of the first episode of the new series of Downton last night, when writer Lord Fellowes and cast members spoke of their excitement.
Laura Carmichael, who plays Lady Edith in the show, said Dame Maggie had performed a “comedy fall” after meeting Clooney’s character for the first time.
She disclosed: "There is a very brilliant moment with Maggie and George - and I don't know if I want to give away any more than that really - but Maggie does a very comedy fall.
“George plants a kiss and Maggie ends up on the floor, it's wonderful. He was hilarious."
During an appearance on This Morning, she added: "It's amazing and we didn't even know if it would actually happen until he turned up. We were filming away and then heard 'he's here, he's here, he's arrived'...
"But he was wonderful and so brilliant and I'm very excited for everyone to see it."
When news of Clooney's role emerged last week, programme bosses kept a lid on details including the names of stars from the drama with whom he would share a scene.
The episode will be screen later this year as part of ITV’s charity appeal Text Santa.
Lord Fellowes said: "I thought he was very generous to do it because he didn't have that long in England and he spent a whole day of it supporting the ITV group of charities, so that seems to indicate that his heart is in what they call the right place."
Asked whether Clooney would be welcome back for an acting role, he joked: "As far as I'm concerned, he can have whatever he likes. He can take over from Maggie (Smith) if he likes."
Lesley Nicol, who plays cook Mrs Patmore, added: "It was spectacular, I was just completely gutted that I wasn't there.”
The actors spoke at a special screening of Downton, held in Leicester Square in conjunction with the Telegraph.
Clooney is among numerous celebrity fans of the show, with the Duke of Cambridge and Michelle Obama rumoured to be among its high-profile fans.
The actor finally appeared at Highclere Castle for filming in a covert operation earlier this year, after fooling fans into thinking he was perusing wedding venues. He had been signed up to the cameo role by Bonneville, after starring alongside him in film The Monuments Men.

George Clooney Tries to Get a Kiss from Dame Smith on Downton Abbey's Christmas Special
During an appearance on the U.K. morning show This Morning, Laura Carmichael, who plays the hassled Lady Edith on Downton Abbey, revealed that George Clooney, who has been making the world swoon since 1994, dropped by the set to film a cameo for the show's special Christmas episode. Carmichael described the scene between Clooney and Dame Maggie Smith (the Dowager Countess): "There’s a very brilliant moment with Maggie and George — I don’t know if I want to give away any more than that really — but George wants a kiss and Maggie ends up on the floor, it’s wonderful," said Carmichael. After he goes in, Dame Smith is left doing a "comedy roll" off her chair. While that wouldn't be our reaction to George swooping in for a kiss, to each her own. Downton Abbey premieres for our friends across the pond tonight on ITV. Meanwhile, we'll just watch the trailer over again.

Hugh Bonneville:

Hugh Bonneville Reveals His Part In George Clooney's 'Downton Abbey' Appearance
When 'Downton Abbey' viewers rub their eyes and realise it is, it really is, George Clooney in the drawing room of their favourite aristocratic pad, they can thank Hugh Bonneville.
Hugh, who plays Lord Grantham in the hit series, was able to make the call, after co-starring with George in ‘The Monuments Men’, which came out earlier this year.
“I was asked if I could help,” Hugh reveals to HuffPostUK. “It was a long, long, long shot, but he had an afternoon free when he was in London, so he came to play.
“It made our year. It was brilliant.”
The arrival of George, who will be seen in a special one-off sketch for ITV’s charity phone-in, Text Santa, was something only Hugh and the producers knew about for a while.
“We were hoping to keep it that way until right up to transmission, but such is the quality of the rumour mill these days… “
Viewers of ‘Downton Abbey’ have most recently seen Hugh’s character Lord Grantham and his wife Cora (Elizabeth McGovern) grow increasingly distant this series, not helped by the arrival of her blatant admirer Simon Bricker (Richard E Grant).
This isn’t the first time the pair have faced a stumbling block in their marriage, with their grief over the death of daughter Sybil forcing them apart, in the Earl’s case into the larder with an over-attentive maid.
So will we see Lord Grantham distracted once again by the charms of another? Hugh Bonneville quickly shakes his head.
“It’s not his turn in the larder, it’s somebody else’s turn in the larder.”
What else will we see during the rest of this series?
“More tension with the daughter, but it all comes good in the end.”
And how long can it last? He raises his eyebrows.
“Until Julian Fellowes gets fed up with it all. There’ll be a natural end to it, and Julian will know when that is. But it’s been lovely, long may it last.”

Is ITV like the US public broadcasting system? It certainly seems like a terrific fundraising endeavor. So glad that George can be a part of it this year.

Elizabeth McGovern on the ‘Downton Abbey’ Xmas Album and Lady Grantham’s Kiss with George Clooney
Downton Abbey star Elizabeth McGovern discusses the LP Christmas at Downton Abbey, her character’s steamy fifth season arc, and kissing George Clooney on the show.
Christmas is starting early at Downton Abbey. On Nov. 17, the double-album Christmas at Downton Abbey will hit stores. It’s comprised of 45 holiday tunes, including seven by members of the cast. Two of the most tender numbers, “It Came Upon A Midnight Clear” and “The First Noel,” are sung by none other than Cora, Countess of Grantham (now Lady Grantham)—played by the Oscar-nominated actress Elizabeth McGovern.
The American ex-pat has been a screen staple since 1980, when she was hired while still enrolled at Juilliard for a role in Ordinary People, which went on to win the Best Picture Oscar. In 2008, she formed the folk group Sadie and the Hotheads, and because of her history with music, was approached by the album’s producer Nick Patrick, to appear on the LP.
“I’ve always got my guitar on the set of Downton Abbey and am rushing away to perform,” says McGovern. “Music and acting are totally on the other side of the world from one another, and I do find that they’re nice antidotes for each other. The nice thing about music is I can be in control of it. I don’t need someone to give me permission.”
On “The First Noel,” she’s joined by fellow Downton cast member Julian Ovenden, a.k.a. Charles Blake—an actor with a musical theater background who appears on several of the album’s tracks. McGovern’s also collaborated with Michelle Dockery (Lady Mary Crawley), who’s performed live with Sadie and the Hotheads and appeared on their second album before taking a leave of absence to “save her music for when the show finishes,” says McGovern.
When asked whether or not the album’s producers approached Maggie Smith, the icy Dowager Countess, to sing, McGovern laughs.
“They might have gone to [Maggie], but I’m sure she said no!”
Since McGovern’s songs were recorded after Downton Abbey’s highly anticipated Christmas special was shot, you won’t see Lady Grantham cranking out tunes during the episode. What you will see, though, is Lady Grantham planting a big ol’ kiss on the lips of George Clooney, who will be making a cameo during the Downton Christmas special as a wedding attendee.
“It was special for me because there was a scripted kiss, so I was a bit shocked to see his wedding go forward after our professional day together!” jokes McGovern, adding, “I have not been quite the same ever since. He’s truly as charming as you’d hope him to be, and smart, and has his heart in the right place.”
When I tell her that Clooney is rumored to also kiss the Dowager Countess during the episode, she chuckles. “He was kissing everybody that day!” she says. “But he wasn’t trying it on, it was all scripted.”
While the fifth season of Julian Fellowes’s Downton Abbey doesn’t premiere stateside until Jan. 5, 2015, it’s already wrapped airing on the other side of the Atlantic. And in Season 5, Lady Grantham will have a fascinating arc with a new character, art historian Simon Bricker, played by Richard E. Grant. The two characters engage in an affair, and McGovern felt very comfortable having Grant on the show since they’re old friends—he was one of the first people she befriended after moving from the U.S. to the U.K. The storyline also gave Lady Grantham more agency, which appealed to McGovern.
“What I really love about the way Julian wrote this arc is it’s not like two animals circling each other in a jungle filled with lust, it’s more that these two characters have a genuine spark,” says McGovern. “And that happens in any long-term marriage—you’re not just never going to have a spark with anyone else. It was my opportunity to grant Cora an independent moment away from being a mother, and being a wife. You get to know who she is outside of all that. It’s not scandalous, it’s human.”
She adds, “I’ve been married for a really long time and have kids, and when someone sees you in a role that’s not a wife or mother, you’re grateful because you feel recognized.”
As far as rumors that the show inserted a cancer storyline concerning its beloved dog, Isis (named after the Egyptian goddess), because of the dog’s name’s similarity to the terrorist organization ISIS, McGovern isn’t so sure.
“I wasn’t privy to any conversations involving the dog, so I didn’t know what the wisdom on that was,” she says. “I can’t say it had anything to do with the name. I think the dog deserved to have a little bit of a storyline, so that had as much to do with it as anything. And we had a great dog actor this year—one of our best—so we had to make the most of it.”
McGovern’s new album with Sadie and the Hotheads, Still Waiting, hasn’t been released in America yet, but is available to stream on YouTube. And the band will be performing a few east coast dates stateside in mid-December. When it comes to her future on Downton, she pauses.
“I agreed to commit myself to Season 6, and beyond that, I don’t know,” says McGovern. “I can’t see the show going on forever because nothing does, but it’s been really great so far.”

George Clooney’s Downton Abbey Visit Involved a Lot of Kissing

Last we heard of George Clooney’s Downton Abbey Christmas sketch, the Oscar winner had filmed a scene in which he kissed Maggie Smith’s Dowager Countess. As one might suspect, the impact of being christened by Clooney’s lips was so great, that Smith “collapsed onto the sofa.” And now, Downton-ites, we know a bit more about the Clooney-Crawley crossover.
Elizabeth McGovern, who plays Cora on the series, spilled a few more secrets about the sketch, which is reportedly set at a wedding on the family’s Yorkshire estate. Clooney, who bonded with Downton’s Hugh Bonneville on the set of Clooney’s last film, The Monuments Men, is said to play a wedding guest. And while speaking to the Daily Beast, McGovern boasts that she too got to kiss Clooney.
“It was special for me because there was a scripted kiss,” McGovern said. In fact, the actress joked that she detected so much chemistry in that scene that she “was a bit shocked to see Clooney’s wedding [to Amal Alamuddin] go forward after our professional day together!”
Months after filming the scene, McGovern playfully added, “I have not been quite the same ever since. He’s truly as charming as you’d hope him to be, and smart, and has his heart in the right place.”
When asked about the report that Clooney also kisses the Dowager, McGovern confirmed this was true . . . and then some. “He was kissing everybody that day!”
(By “everybody,” does McGovern mean that Edith and Carson got in on the kissing rampage? Because we would be all for that.)
He wasn’t going rogue for laughs, though. Or overcome by affection about being on the set of his all-time favorite costume drama.
Rather, “It was all scripted,” McGovern clarified. “He wasn’t trying it on.”
Of course, this Clooney smooch-a-thon goes against Downton Abbey’s strict no-touching policy on the series. But, then again, if we had the opportunity to kiss the Oscar winner, we would also gladly buck our concern for historical consistencies.
The Downton-themed sketch will air in the U.K. during the overseas charity telethon, Text Santa, around the holidays.

Re: George Clooney to appear in Downton Abbey episode for charity
George Clooney on Downton Abbey: ''I've Never Seen So Many Female Crew Members,'' Says Allen Leech
While George Clooney may now be a married man, that certainly doesn't make the actor any less swoon-worthy!
Case in point? The actor, who, at the time, was engaged to wife Amal Clooney, filmed at Downton Abbey in September, and according to Downton Abbey's Allen Leech, the female crew members were flocking to set!
"I'll put it this way: I've never seen so many female crew members arrive and be on set when they weren't actually supposed to be. It was very interesting," the 33-year-old actor told E! News with a laugh at the Los Angeles premiere of The Imitation Game.
E! News previously reported that Clooney will guest-star in a Downton Abbey sketch scene for ITV's Christmas charity initiative "Text Santa," which will be set in Highclere Castle, the setting for Downton Abbey.
"He was such a lovely man," Leech continued, singing the A-lister's praises. "So intelligent, so articulate as well about not only acting but also world affairs"
The Grand Piano star added of the Oscar winner: "A great man, and a brilliant actor and a brilliant director and it was just so much fun and he had a blast."
While the project, which has already been shot, is a standalone film to support the charity (Clooney is not expected to appear in the upcoming season of Downton Abbey, nor will he be seen in the Christmas special), we still can't help but get a little giddy when we picture the ER alum in a 1920s-style tux.
"It was great," Leech said of Clooney's guest spot. "And I don't want to spoil it but it's very very funny, I've seen it and the interactions that George has with everyone in the cast are hilarious, so I think everyone will enjoy it and it will be a real treat and it was great of him to come in and do something like that for us."
"He had to work very hard," Leech added with a hearty laugh. "I've never seen someone being chased by so many paparazzi leaving the set of Downton Abbey!"

I don't understand. While it sounds like George is in the Christmas special why is it also said "nor will he be seen in the Christmas special".

Call me dense PAN but I thought this sketch was going to be televised as a special for charity, I knew he wasn't going to be in the actual show that's on every week. So why won't people see him on this special? Bear with me please ... I just don't understand.

Donnamarie - Not sure, but maybe the charity special and the Downton Christmas special are two separte things? I just want to know if/when we'll be able to see it in the US.

Re: George Clooney to appear in Downton Abbey episode for charity
Two separate things, yep. One is a sketch for charity with the cast of Downton - I imagine at the most 5 or 10 minutes (if we're lucky), and the other is a full blown (no doubt longer) episode of Downton for Christmas. As it stands at the moment Our Hero is not a cast member of the series, and according to all the reports in the charity special he appears as a guest at a wedding.
I'm just wondering if he'll do a similar thing for Comic Relief on the BBC when it comes around.
And I read an article today on how many American stars are coming to the UK to
take part in BBC Dramas................

Re: George Clooney to appear in Downton Abbey episode for charity
below in the article is says that it still will be announced when it plays in the US TV
George Clooney Caused A Frenzy While On The Set of Downton Abbey
George Clooney was spotted on the set of ‘Downton Abbey’, and of course women flocked the set to see the actor. ‘Downton Abbey’ actor, Allen Leech told E! News that he had never seen such chaos like that in his entire life.
“I’ll put it this way: I’ve never seen so many female crew members arrive and be on set when they weren’t actually supposed to be. It was very interesting.
George Clooney will guest star in an upcoming ‘Downton Abbey’ sketch for ITV’s Christmas charity show titled, ‘Text Santa’. ‘Text Santa’ will take place on the Highclere Castle set. The Christmas special sketch will air exclusively on ITV. Leech said Clooney is a great and easy actor to work with, and is very nice. He didn’t however give any details on the character George Clooney will be playing.
“A great man, and a brilliant actor and a brilliant director and it was just so much fun and he had a blast. And I don’t want to spoil it but it’s very very funny, I’ve seen it and the interactions that George has with everyone in the cast are hilarious, so I think everyone will enjoy it and it will be a real treat and it was great of him to come in and do something like that for us. I’ve never seen someone being chased by so many paparazzi leaving the set of Downton Abbey!”
Reports are saying that there will be a kissing scene between George Clooney and some of the women of ‘Downton Abbey’. Elizabeth McGovern, who plays Lady Grantham, gave some interesting spoilers to the Daily Beast.
“It was special for me because there was a scripted kiss, so I was a bit shocked to see his wedding go forward after our professional day together!”
George Clooney will also reportedly kiss Maggie Smith’s character, Dowager Countess. According to McGovern, Clooney was planting one on everybody.
“He was kissing everybody that day! But he wasn’t trying it on, it was all scripted.”
Downton Abbey’s Christmas charity special will air on Christmas Day in the U.K. It has yet to be announced if it will air in the U.S. on PBS. Season 5 of ‘Downton Abbey’ is set to premiere Sunday, January 4th 9/8c on PBS in the U.S.

Hugh Bonneville: George Clooney sprinkled magic dust over Downton Abbey
The Hollywood actor is the star attraction in a special sketch the ITV drama's cast has filmed for Text Santa
Christmas is coming and we're all rather excited, but this December will be extra special. Because not only will we get presents under the tree, this year we're getting an extra special gift in the shape of George Clooney on Downton Abbey.
The Hollywood A-lister has already paid a visit to Highclere Castle to film a special sketch for ITV's charity appeal Text Santa with the entire cast sworn to secrecy...until September when news broke and the internet went mental.
Now they're allowed to talk – something RadioTimes.com took full advantage of when we sat down for a chat with Hugh Bonneville.
"He came and filmed with us for an afternoon back in May when we were doing this Text Santa sketch and he was incredibly generous with his time and his talent," says the actor, who plays Lord Grantham in the ITV period drama.
"It's interesting the number of people who suddenly come on set who'd never been on set in five years of filming. He was great – he was a good laugh and sprinkled some sort of magic dust over our experience."
The Text Santa sketch is the first of two appearances from the Downton Abbey cast in the Christmas schedules. The show's festive special is due to air on Christmas Day and will return to a traditional wintery setting – a decision that's gone down well with the show's millions of fans.
"We span several months in the Christmas episode," explains Bonneville. "We're going grouse shooting in the north so we filmed at Alnwick Castle for a couple of weeks which was just incredible. I mean, Highclere's pretty incredible but Alnwick makes it look like a portacabin – it's vast, amazing. So we had the privilege of filming inside their state rooms which was incredible.
"And the story does – I think viewers will be delighted to know – have a Christmas theme towards the end."

Re: George Clooney to appear in Downton Abbey episode for charity
I'm a bit confused here in UK.
Paul Scofield said on Saturday night that he's doing a 24 hour marathon of broadcasting on
ITV on Monday 1 December.
When he announced it he listed a few programmes
then said "and don't forget George Clooney"
I'm unable to record 24 hours of TV so I don't know if it'll be shown on Monday 1 December first.

Jo, total confusion.
Aargh!
Looks like there's a Text Santa on ITV3 tomorrow (December 1)
And the main event on mainstream tv is on December 19.
So I'm guessing that this is the lead-in programme to get people to sign up with teasers of some of the things going on - including George........
They can't get it on ITV1 at the mo - think of all those advertisers with slots on I'm A Celebrity - Get Me out of Here!

Re: George Clooney to appear in Downton Abbey episode for charity
Joanna - look at ITV 3 if you have it, from 11am on Monday i think its Philip Schofiled who is doing this, he is doing a 24 hour tv marathon for text Santa and looks like he is taking part in the day time tv programmes we have on ITV like Loose Woman, news, weather, Im a Celbrity etc, i dont see George mentioned at all but given its 24 hours anything can happen - ill try and tape what i can and check it through but im at work so wont see much of this given its on tv until Tuesday morning

Yes that's what I thought too.
But Schofield throwing in George's name in his
announcement after Jonathon Ross show
confused me.
Mind you, it doesn't take much to do that lately !!

The Ad is confusing too Joanna I was freaking out thinking it was tomorrow but all the skits are on the actual event on the 19th so it would make sense it would be on then too.
On a side note had a crush on Phillip since I was a kid and still think he's a dish. Another silver fox!!

George is playing an American? Right? He could easily pass as a dapper British gent. He and Hugh look great together. Guess I'll be watching it on YouTube in the states. Hopefully

Stars of the show have previously gushed over the experience of working with the Hollywood hunk.
According to reports, the female stars of Downton Abbey queued to have their photo taken with Clooney and were keen to meet him.
"It was amazing," Laura Carmichael told The Sun.
The 28-year-old actress, who plays Lady Edith Crawley, continued: "We didn’t know if it would actually happen until he turned up.
"We were filming and then heard, ‘He’s here! He’s here! He’s arrived!'"

Clooney is said to be a big fan of the show
A Downton source added: "The cast were falling about themselves with excitement and lining up to have their photos taken with George.
"The girls were mad keen to speak to him. He was full of jokes and had them all in stitches.
"Downton is now a global phenomenon and they are used to red carpet events with Hollywood A-listers. But this was George acting alongside them."
Laura also revealed Dame Maggie Smith, who plays the Dowager Countess of Grantham, would be won over by George's charms in the episode.
"There is a very brilliant moment with Maggie and George - and I don't know if I want to give away any more than that really - but Maggie does a very comedy fall," she divulged.
"George plants a kiss and Maggie ends up on the floor, it's wonderful. He was hilarious."
