George Clooney Calmed Down a Nervous Young Anna Kendrick by Throwing Nerf Balls at Her

ear the beginning of her film career, Pitch Perfect star Anna Kendrickwalked into a daunting role: starring opposite George Clooney in 2009’s Up in the Air. We know how this story ended. Kendrick went overnight from indie savant and Twilight bit player to universal accolades and an Oscar nomination. But that doesn’t mean she wasn’t nervous when it all began. As she explained in a recent episode of WTF Podcast with Marc Maron, it took some calming advice from her famous co-star to soothe the early jitters:

George [Clooney] was so nice. I didn’t meet him until we were on set together. There was the first thing we shot together, we were doing a sort of walk-and-talk, and we were waiting to go, and he was like [under his breath], “Do you get nervous? I get nervous.”
I was like, “Oh, my God!” It was the smallest thing, but it, like, opened up my world … He probably does that for everybody when he can tell they’re like, “What am I doing here? I don’t belong here.” Just a couple of words from [Clooney] and you’re like, “Oh, my God, he’s a person! I’m a person. WE’RE THE SAME!”

Kendrick also explained that Clooney would throw Nerf balls at her to help shake off nerves, and offered to run lines in order to help her relax:

At one point, I was like, “Can you run lines with me?,” and he immediately did the scene with me. And I didn’t realize until later that, you know, he’s a fucking movie star. He could’ve just fucked off and, you know, gone to his trailer or called his agent. [He didn’t have to sit with me all day] for a scene he’s not even in, running the other guy’s lines with me.
And that kind of generosity is something I think about all the time. If he can be that generous, everybody should be able to do that.

If that combination of sweet but foul-mouthed gratitude is not exactly what you expect from the nice girl who recorded that “Cups” song your nine-year-old wouldn’t stop singing, that’s because you don’t quite understand Kendrick.She’s always exhibited a kind of looseness that’s perfectly in line with Clooney’s own penchant for being both mischievous and incredibly generous. As far as Hollywood role models go, she could do much worse.

Aaaah Nicky.....that's a heart warming story.
Sounds typical of the George that we've come to know
from other colleagues over the years.
It's 100% better reporting than any rubbishy gossip
article any day !
