Re: July 2014 Chit Chat
Here in UK....a Brilliant job by Police has been done over 6 months.....At Last !
660 held in child images crackdown
1 minute ago By Press Association
Several hundred suspected paedophiles including doctors, teachers and former police officers have been arrested in the biggest ever UK crackdown on obscene images of children.
The unprecedented six-month operation headed by the National Crime Agency (NCA) saw 660 people held for downloading and sharing the sickening pictures, and has already led to charges for serious sexual assault.
Those arrested included a doctor who had access to more than one million depraved pictures, was found to have met up with boys and kept sex aids and rope in the boot of his car.
Scout leaders and care workers were also among the huge number of people held across England, Wales, Scotland and Northern Ireland, and the vast majority had never before aroused suspicion.
The massive investigation, involving all 45 British police forces, led to 431 children who were were in the "care, custody or control" of the suspects being "safeguarded", including 127 who were identified as being at serious risk of harm.
Those arrested had used the internet or the so-called "dark web" - internet content that is not listed for access by normal search engines.
NCA deputy director general Phil Gormley said: "This operation has been about protecting children who are victims of, or might become victims of, sexual exploitation.
"Children are victimised not only when they are abused and the images first taken, but at every subsequent time that image is viewed by further offenders or distributed."
Mr Gormley said he was "profoundly disappointed" that so many suspects had been arrested over this type of crime.
He said: "The alternative is not to look under the stone, and we cannot afford not to look under this stone.
"There are very significant volumes of people viewing this material in this country and abroad. We are going to need to understand as a society how we are going to confront this issue.
"We are not going to be able to arrest our way our of it. The numbers are significant, the volumes are huge."
The NCA would not reveal the precise tactics it had used, but in previous child abuse cases officers have gone undercover and posed as potential victims to lull sex offenders into showing their true colours.
Chief Constable Simon Bailey, who is the national lead for child abuse investigations, said that police can track paedophiles online, even when using the dark web.
"Law enforcement now has the capability to see what people are doing," he said. "Six hundred and sixty people have currently been arrested, there will be more arrests. There is a clear message to anybody using the internet to facilitate and to commit this type of crime that you are vulnerable."
There were only 39 registered sex offenders among those arrested, with the majority able to avoid detection until now.
One of the suspects said he had been viewing images of child abuse for 30 years and had repeatedly travelled to south east Asia as a sex tourist.
When asked how hundreds of sex offenders had escaped detection until now, Mr Gormley said: "It's a bit like a drugs problem. You need to look for it if you're going to find it. People are unlikely to report this type of crime, you're not going to have witnesses to it in the way that traditional crime types will."
Two years ago the NCA estimated that 50,000 people in the UK were involved in sharing child abuse images online, and in the past 20 years the number of images available has soared from an estimated 10,000 to tens of millions.
Mr Gormley went on: "I am pretty appalled about what it says about human nature. Which is why we need to think very carefully about what this means and how we approach this type of offending behaviour, and the propensity of quite large numbers of people to view this material."
So far officers have searched 833 properties and examined 9,172 computers, phones and hard drives.
The NCA said it built up "intelligence packages" on suspects and sent them to police forces across Britain before arrests were made.
Claire Lilley, head of online safety at the NSPCC, said: "Direct action like this sends a strong message to those who subject children to harrowing sexual assaults that they can and will be traced and prosecuted.
"But law enforcement agencies alone cannot deal with the vast problem of illegal images which continue to flood the market. Industry has to find inventive ways of blocking the flow of such horrendous pictures which are only produced through the suffering of defenceless children - many of who are not even old enough to go to school.
"So while this operation must be rightly applauded we should view it as yet another warning sign that far more needs to be done if we are to stem the sordid trade in these images, which are often used by those who go on to abuse children."

I was SO delighted at the success of the police operations when I heard the news
first thing this morning.it will carry on too.....
A lot of people went unpunished in the past because the various County Police forces
didn't share information all across the country.
Now they will. YAY !

all those kids will populate their lands

Re: July 2014 Chit Chat
I need an advise from people who have a dog or are very much familiar with dogs....
I always wanted to have a god. That my biggest wish in my life. We had dogs when I was a child but now of course when you work full time there is no time for a dog.
But now I'm thinking....so many people work and have a dog. I always thought it is cruel for a dog to be alone at home during the day. But maybe not? Some days I could even take my dog with me but for sure there are days were the dog has to stay home. Would it be ok for a dog to be home alone all day?
A friend of mine who lives in the Caribbean for years is coming back to Germany by the end of this year. With her 7 dogs (imagine that). Of course she can not have 7 dogs when she comes back. She was asking me if I want to take one...and now I'm thinking like crazy
Or shall I wait until I retire??? Which will take forever

Re: July 2014 Chit Chat
Nicky - Do you have to give her an answer right away or can you wait til she gets home? You need to see the dogs before you decide. They may be too big or too active for you.
There are some dogs who are fine being alone all day, but some can't be left alone for a minute. Also, some need lots of space and exercise while others just need to be walked a couple of times a day. Also, are these dogs used to being outside all day long or are they indoor dogs?
There are many things to consider. Maybe most important is whether you actually like any of her dogs, and will they like you? It's a big decision . Good luck!

Thanks Lizzy. No I don't have to give her an answer straight away. Guess enough time to think about it. Maybe I also will pass by a dog shelter and get some advise there....A dog which is too big or to active wouldn't be too good for me

Re: July 2014 Chit Chat
Very good points Lizzy....personally I don't like the thought of leaving a dog at home alone all day. They are like us and need social contact. Often they will pine and bark and become stressed, which is unfair
on the dog. More so if it's the dog's "second owner"
If you think in terms of how you'd treat a young child, then I think that's a good benchmark for
housing a dog.
I waited until I'd taken early retirement and then had an 8 week old Westie puppy, our first Westie.
I was able to house train him, walk him with the lead etc etc quite quickly as we were together all day.
It was great fun.

Mesdames et Messieurs !
Congratulations Joanna!
Football is over and I was channel hopping the other night. What caught my attention was this interview, a guy was talking how he reads Mark Twain…and he got all philosophical, very coherent ideas…
And interesting face, I must say. So rare to find those!
Well, his name appeared to the screen: Ryan Driller (pseudo name) his real name is Adam Cuculich, actor (unfortunately in a genre I don´t watch) . If I was a Hollywood producer I would call him at once, cast him in a leading role asap for the big screen… I can´t see anything that could go wrong...

I can't imagine raising a child in this world. I think back to when I was a kid and how different everything was - how much safer it all seemed - and probably was. For all our technology and "advancements" it seems like we're only making things worse.

http://www.ilfattoquotidiano.it/2014/07/17/proto-lultima-bufala-sul-film-di-scorsese-poi-minaccia-il-blogger-che-lo-smaschera/1062645/
about internet sites which bounce info without checking
Proto, the latest hoax on film by Scorsese. Then threatens blogger who unmasks
A film directed by Martin Scorsese, with a cameo by George Clooney and the soundtrack of One Direction. The latest hoax of Alexander Proto, self-styled financier who last October has bargained a sentence of three years and 10 months for fraud and stock manipulation, pulls in the Director Oscar Award dance and the band just did two sold out at the San Siro Stadium. That would be already at work on a film, "the manipulator", inspired by his life. All fake, of course, as ilfattoquotidiano.it was able to ascertain with a few phone calls. The news, however, is circulated on various internet sites, was taken for good from a major agency and finished even on some big newspapers.
It was just this, it would be just another sortie of Proto, who has never concluded a deal in her life (at one point he also credits as a possible buyer of the shares made daily) and has gradually introduced as the middleman in the sale of a villa for the player Messi, as the true founder of the erotic bestseller "Fifty grey nuances"as a lover of showgirl Elisabetta Canalis. Venial sins, in relation to the dissemination of false information about purchasing shares Rcs and Tod 's, which cost the criminal conviction and house arrest.
But this time Proto arrived to threaten legal action against a blogger, David Alejandro Puente Anzil, guilty simply to have debunked the hoax. "We note that has taken a liking to try to get publicity with Mr. Proto, writing on the right and missing," it said in an email, not exactly in giuridichese, signed "Avv. N. Giuliani ". And again: "we had to make some checks on her. First the Casaleggio associati (old job of Puente, ndr) and there are already giving some information ". Finally, a threat of lawsuit that prompted the blogger to remove the article, now back online by latest developments enriched. One in particular: proved non-existent even "Proto" collaborator that has further threatened Puente of lawsuits, Sabina Valleverde, Assistant Manager of Proto Organization Enterprises Ltd ". The picture of sabina on Linkedin had been stolen at an unsuspecting (and real) Bulgarian girl, then personally tracked down by bloggers. A hoax at hoax, in fact.
End of the story? Not even to dream. A few phone calls in addition has allowed ilfattoquotidiano.it to be traced back to the primary source who released the news of Scorsese's movies: the same Proto, which then was amused to refute and clarify, with the aim of creating the media case to return to talk about oneself. Up to threats of lawsuit and "taking information" against the blogger Puente.
As for Martin Scorsese, American film director of Italian origin is actually filming a new movie, based on a real character. But it is not Alexander Proto. It's Frank Sheeran, "the Irishman", legendary Italian American mafia-related criminal and put in connection with the murder of James Hoffa.
about internet sites which bounce info without checking
N. Giuliani ". Re: July 2014 Chit Chat
I so agree with Lizzy… except that I have to both imagine and raise…
"You know what is sweeter than the sound of child´s laughter?
-The sound of silence from not having any kids..."
Huh, I am on a summer "vacation", so far the house has hosted 1-3 boys every single day. Can you imagine the noise and the mess... Most of the time my son has someone staying overnight, sorry, overnights. One was here for 10 days! I have a baby-sitter, my boyfriend is helping me out, taking them to all the boys stuff…basketball, football... his parents are looking after these kids...Still how can you have and maintain any kind of relationship in this 24/7circus? Even in airplane they say "Put an oxygen mask on yourself before you try to help your children or other…"
I mean half the marriages end up divorce, I wouldn´t be surprised if the % was 100 after the kids…and no it´s not just modern technology…to blame...

Carla - I feel your pain. Summer "vacation" can be a killer for parents, but cheer up - it does eventually end - and your son will probably think you're the best mom ever!
And no, it's not just technology to blame for the state of the world. There are so many scary things going on in the world it would take week to list them. Maybe the best thing to do is pour a glass of wine, turn off the tv and all the gadgets, put up your feet and put the world's problems out of your mind. Just focus on making your own little corner of the world a better place.

Just unbelievable that this happened. I'm sure they will just continue to blame each other but it will have no consequences really for anyone. And I think that's the worst. That you can do things like that and get away with it. So confusing is the politic today.
80 children were on board......
The worst is it it the same airline which plane disappeared few month ago. That's not a good year for them. So many people dead.

I think it just seemed this way. And the media was different in the past too. Things like this happened before.
1983 an airline was shut down before Japan by the Russians because the airline was in the Russian airspace. 269 people died.
1988 and Airline shut down at the Persian sea close to Iran by an American war ship as they didn't reminisced it was a civil plane. 290 people died.
2001 an Russian airline was shut down at the black sea by the Ukraine. 78 people died.

Re: July 2014 Chit Chat
I hear you Carla - I just endured and I do mean endured 2 weeks of school vacation, love mine to the moon and back but they sure tested that over the holidays with their antics, play dates, excursions etc - and the noise - who knew that 3 little people could be so noisy. My ear plugs and my ipod are my best friend!!Carla97 wrote:I so agree with Lizzy… except that I have to both imagine and raise…

The first day back at school, house was tidy, and quiet, way too quiet, found myself standing there feeling a little lost - ironic huh

I have half of my family flying internationally today, logically I know that the chances of anything going wrong are slim, but still there is a little knot in my tummy that wont go away - one my family members is flying from Amsterdam and I bet she is really nervous - so I'll be holding my breath until I get the text msg to say all have arrived safely.

Theminis - Prayers for their safe travels. I'm sure everyone concerned with aviation is being a lot more alert and careful today. I can't imagine anyone trying anything after what happened yesterday.Whatever their cause might be, they'd bring the anger of the whole world down on their heads.
I keep forgetting your seasons are the opposite of ours. Our kids just started their summer vacation. They won't head back to school til September!

Re: July 2014 Chit Chat
Oh my word, till September yikes yikes. Mine have 4 terms a year equating to 2 semesters. So they have 2 weeks off in April, 2 weeks off in June, 2 weeks off in September then 6 weeks off in summer, usually starts the week before Christmas and they go back Jan 31 or Feb 1. Its summer here at that time so that's their biggest break.
For some reason, perhaps because kids have been in school for 6 months, the June holidays are usually the most tiresome for me, its cold, wet, raining, cant do much outdoor stuff (except if we have an early snow season), so its gets boring quickly and you know kids, if they are not occupied they occupy themselves with mischief!!
