Hmmm.  A journalist who struggles to detect sarcasm i written form and needs something - anything - to fill her column today, I think.  Although her comments about George's jeans are spot on, IMO:

I feel sorry for Amal Clooney

Barrister Amal Clooney graced the cover of US Vogue this week and proved conclusively that she's among the most aspirational women of our time. Brilliant, ambitious, socially conscious, charitable, a leader in her field (that would be international human rights law), fashionable and prosperous enough to employ a nanny to help with her 10-month-old twins, Alexander and Ella. Clooney is also in possession of several properties she shares with husband George (the actor), and an extremely shiny head of hair.

But, nestled among mentions of her philanthropic work, her Oxford education and her forthcoming book on law, which she called "a real page-turner!" and which, I can only conclude was said sarcastically, because, honestly, I'm almost asleep hearing about the book, and it's not even finished, and even Amal admitted that she is having trouble writing it, because it is so utterly boring.

OK, she didn't say that out loud because she didn't need to - we all know it will appeal to approximately .05 per cent of the population, the majority of whom will buy it simply because it carries the surname Clooney.
But anyway, nestled among such anecdotes was one detail that is, as the prosperous might say, a little gauche. It seems that husband George (the actor) has a painting depicting his dog Einstein, a cocker spaniel, as a physics professor at a chalkboard. The dog is now dead and while I hesitate to say he died of shame, I'm sure the painting didn't help him recover.
No doubt there is more than a dollop of irony involved in such a piece, however, the Clooney's insurance appraisers failed to see it, reportedly "issuing a pointedly low estimate" on the work.[/size]

“They were like, ‘It’s barely worth getting a policy,’ ” Amal told Vogue. “They were very judgmental.”
Perhaps that's because a dog at a chalkboard is about a millimetre away, artistically speaking, from a dog playing pool, and we all know that the notorious oeuvre of "dogs acting like they're hard-drinking men", including but not limited to paintings of dogs playing poker, is about a micrometre away, in terms of white trash signifiers, from a singing fish. Which is practically on par with the $7000 purchase of Russell Crowe's leather jock strap at his divorce auction this week.
And while it might be argued that Amal slipped such an anecdote into the interview to appear humorous and earthy, it doesn't make it any less true.

Equally true is the fact that George Clooney (who also directs) favours short-sleeved business shirts, often pairing them with jeans that would not look out of place on a TV mother of three in a sitcom from 1985. These are not "mom jeans"; they're not even "dad jeans" they are so awful they defy description - at least in a family newspaper.

Clooney then has the gall to wear these not just on casual walks, but to proper dinners with his wife, who, as the world knows, is peerless in terms of her sartorial choices.

Such a crime against fashion can not even be excused by claims that George is old (he's 57), or from the Mid West of America, because Brad Pitt (also a movie actor) is only two years younger than George, and also hails from the Mid West and he has managed to keep abreast of fashion,  and display a modicum of self-respect by wearing shirts with sleeves and proper jeans.

George has admitted he "married up", and told Vogue "she's the professional and I'm the amateur" referring to their philanthropic work, but he could just as easily be referring to the gaping chasm between any of their accomplishments. Yes, George has a couple of Oscars. You know who else has an Oscar? Tom Hanks for Forrest Gump. I rest my case.
I'm not arguing that George is a bad actor (although he's not great). I'm also not disputing his charm (although sending emails in the character of his dog in order to woo Amal is not the most sophisticated display of humour). I guess what I'm trying to say is that if any 50-something dude, replete with a short-sleeved, shiny shirt, salt-and-pepper goatee and a cheesy sense of humour, appeared on the fringes of your friend circle, and you're a 35-year-old London barrister at the top of your game, with a gorgeous mane of hair, and a colourful social life that includes more than the regular amount of male admirers, do you look twice? Would you swipe right?

George is not ugly; he's not mean. He recently shared his billion-dollar profit from the sale of his tequila company with his close friends. There's nothing wrong with George, per se. It's just that Amal is so much better. In every way. So, I feel just a tad sorry for her, marrying below her station. Although, not as sorry as I feel for whoever bought that jock strap.

Here we go folk's another member of the sister hood doing what they do best.

Tearing Amal down for loving and marrying her husband. And having the nerve to have a sense of humor along with being intelligent.

Put clooney in a heading and people will read it so they do . Yep, Katie the jeans were the only thing she was correct on
the rest was simply garbage.

Why do these "progressive" "enlightened" young women feel the only way to make women look good is to make men look bad? (Not talking about the jeans - they're AWFUL - and I've said so a million times).

This woman is completely unaware, or ignorant, of who George Clooney really is. I always get really peeved when I read critical comments by naysayers who think they know who George really is (or isn’t).  It’s usually obvious from their comments that their assessment of him comes from headlines of trashy tabloids.  We know about George’s character, how he lives his life and about his other wonderful qualities.  His humanitarian work alone speaks for itself.  Something in which this woman has no clue about.  So to rake him over the coals for his choice of wearing ugly baggy jeans and to make a statement that he is not worthy of Amal is totally dumb.  Ms. Reilly is showing herself to be quite shallow in her assessment of what makes someone ‘worthy’ IMO.

I'm really curious who this idiot thinks IS good enough for Amal. If it isn't George, who on earth could it be? For my money, Amal got the cream of the crop and anyone else is a step down the ladder.
