An open letter to the people who hate Obama more than they love America

This was an open letter dated January 9, 2012 but I just ran across it today and I wanted to share.  It's a very accurate commentary on the polarization of our political arena and the inertia it's causing in Washington DC, which is paralyzing our country from moving forward.  The interesting thing is that in the past two years the problems she speaks about so succinctly, have only gotten worse.

An open letter to the people who hate Obama more than they love America

 I meet you all the time. You hate Obama. You hate gay people. You hate black people, immigrants, Muslims, labor unions, women who want the right to make choices concerning their bodies, you hate em all. You hate being called racist. You hate being called a bigot. Maybe if you talked about creating jobs more than you talk about why you hate gay people we wouldn't call you bigots. Maybe if you talked about black people without automatically assuming they are on food stamps while demanding their birth certificates we wouldn't call you racist. You hate socialism and social justice. You hate regulations and taxes and spending and the Government. You hate.

You like war. You like torture. You like Jesus. I don't know how in the hell any of that is compatible, but no one ever accused you haters of being over-committed to ideological consistency. You like people who look like you or at least hate most of the things that you hate. You hate everything else.

Now, I know you profess to love our country and the founding fathers (unless you are reminded that they believed in the separation of church and state), but I need to remind you that America is NOT what Fox News says it is. America is a melting pot, it always has been. We are a multi-cultural amalgamation of all kinds of people, and yet you still demonize everyone who is not a rich, white, heterosexual christian male or his submissive and obedient wife.

You hate liberals, moderates, hell, anyone who disagrees with Conservative dogma as espoused by Fox News and Rush Limbaugh. You hate em.

Well, here are the facts, Jack. If you hate the Government then you are unqualified to manage it. If you hate gay people more than you love America than you should take your own advice and get the hell out. There are several countries that are openly hostile to gay people, but they are full of brown people and you don't like them much either from what I understand. It looks like you are screwed, but that's not what I am here to tell you.

Now that you have thrown everything and the kitchen sink at President Obama and it still hasn't worked you are panicking. Obama's approval ratings are still near 50% despite your best efforts to undermine the economy and America's recovery at every step you can. You tried to hold the American economy hostage to force America into default on its' debts, debts that YOU rang up under Bush, so you could blame it on Obama and it failed. You've used the filibuster more than any other Congress ever, going so far as to vote against providing health care access to 9/11 first responders. You remember 9/11, don't you, it's that thing you used to lie us into a war in Iraq, and then when Obama killed Bin Laden and ended the war in Iraq you told people that he hates America and wants the troops to fail. You monsters. You hate Obama with a passion, despite the fact that he is a tax cutting, deficit reducing war President who undermines civil rights and delivers corporate friendly watered down reforms that benefit special interests just like a Republican. You call him a Kenyan. You call him a socialist. You dance with your hatred singing it proudly in the rain like it was a 1950's musical.

Frankly, you disgust me. Your hatred nauseates me. Your bigotry offends me. Your racism revolts me.

Dear haters, I am openly questioning your patriotism.

I think you hate gays, Obama, black people, poor people, all of us, women, atheists and agnostics, Latinos, Muslims, Liberals, all of us, I think you hate every one who isn't exactly like you, and I think you hate us more than you love your country.

I think you hate gay soldiers more than you want America to win its wars.

I don't even think you want America to win wars, you just want America to have wars, never ending wars and the war profiteering it generates. You love that kind of spending, you love spending on faith based initiatives and abstinence based sex education (George Carlin would have loved that one), you love spending on subsidies for profitable oil corporations, you spend like drunken sailors when you are in the White House, but if it is a Democrat then suddenly you cheer when America doesn't get the Olympics because it might make the black President look bad. But oooh you love your country, you say, and you want it back. Well listen here skippy, it isn't your country, you don't own it, it is our country, and America is NOT the religiously extremist Foxbots who hate science, elitist professors and having a vibrant and meaningful sex life with someone we love if Rick Santorum doesn't approve of it. Rick Santorum isn't running for America's fucking high school dance chaperone, he should probably just shut the hell up about sex, but he can't because he has nothing else to run on.

Republicans can NOT win on the issues. They've got NOTHING. All they have is a divide and conquer class war that pits ignorant racist and bigoted people against the rest of us in a meaningless battle of wedge issues and the already proven to fail George W. Bush agenda again of tax cuts for the rich, deregulation, privatization and war profiteering and nothing else, so all they can do is blame black people, gays the government, anybody and everyone else for their own failings. The party of personal responsibility, my ass.

But they love multi-national corporations, just ask a gay hating and racist religious extremist if they think Corporations are people and they will gladly agree, but if you ask them if gay people are people they aren't so sure.

Dear haters, you are the cruel, heartless misinformed assholes who would sell America out to Haliburton in a heartbeat, you would rather pay ZERO taxes than you would see a newly born baby get access to quality health care, you cheer when we discuss denying health care to young people with preventable diseases, and you boo when we discuss the First Ladies plan to cut back on childhood obesity. You are a cross to carry and a flag to wrap yourself in away from being the people who Sinclair Lewis warned us about, but I guarantee that if Fox News told you to dress that way you would, because you are the same blind, ignorant and closed minded dunces who drove this country into a civil war years ago because you are bound to the notion that some men are more equal than others. In short, the reason I proudly wear my union army hat is because of seditious sell outs like you who constantly fuck over working class Americans so a foreign entrepreneur like Rupert Murdoch can get a bigger tax break. If corporations are people, they are neither American patriots nor capable of love. Just like you.

So stop wearing your hate with pride. Stop celebrating your anti-science, anti-math ignorance. Stop using code words to mask your bigotry like "family values", especially when you hate my family and when you stand on the same stage as a guy who has had three marriages or if you share a seat in the Senate with a guy who cheated on his wife with hookers while wearing diapers. You should be ashamed. I know that you are just doing this to motivate your misinformed hate cult base because if they actually knew that your ideas will make them poorer than they are now, they would never vote for you. You are doing your best to impoverish your countrymen so rich people can get bigger tax breaks and you can keep on delivering corporate welfare to the special interests who have bribed you, and I am disgusted by the way you gleefully parade your hatred with aplomb. I don't think you do love America. At least, not as much as you hate everyone in America who isn't exactly like you.

You should think about that, and maybe get some help.

And for the record, I do not hate you. I am embarrassed by you and nauseated by your cruel and thoughtless behavior and your all consuming greed, but I do not hate you. I forgive you and I hope you can change someday, but I don't hate you. You have enough hate in you for the rest of us as it is.

Great letter, thanks for sharing. I hope lot of people have read the letter. I like it that she mentioned the word "hate" like hundred times and when you finish reading the letter you really believe they are haters (I hope I expressed myself right).

So she mentioned fox news few times. Is fox news showing only one way of news and is more on the side of the republicans? Fox is a private channel right?

There is one sentence she wrote:

Who does she mean by "Jack"? Is that a kind of saying for something?

I think this letter should be on the front page of every major newspaper in the USA as far as the points she's trying to address, although it's my personal opinion, that when you call people "assholes" they tend to close down and you kind of lose them thereafter.

And I would have added something about referring to yourself as "pro-life" and policy which is dead set against abortion, while supporting "stand your ground laws" which have given free license to kill "living" unarmed black young men because "they're scary looking in hoodies" and are assumed to be up to no good, even when minding their own business walking down the street, not to mention their push for capital punishment in "red" states.  Pro-life means exactly that....ALL life is precious...you don't get to pick and choose whom should live or die!

It's a little hard to take that pro-life policy seriously when they care so little for the children already born, who are living in poverty in one of the richest countries on earth and they want to cut the food right out of their mouths ala Paul Ryan's draconian budget.

But all in all, the points she made are what have completely paralyzed our political system and Washington is indeed BROKEN!

Wow! That's one fed up lady! Unfortunately the only people who will read through to the end already agree with her - the rest will read the first couple of sentences and quit reading because they'll recognize themselves and know she isn't one of them and therefore her opinions aren't valid. IMO she nails it.

Nicky - "Jack" is just a name, like saying "Here are the facts, buddy - or mister - or Sam (or any other name).

Lighterside that is some letter and I do agree with what she says. You critic of the letter was spot on. I don't know how I miss this when PBO was running this time around. We did so much twetting for him at that time. I think this is the perfect place to post it; basically this is a mafor one of George's causes, the Republicans are ruining this country and making us a laughing stock in some parts of the world.

@Mazy, while I'm sure he would probably agree with some of the points, this shouldn't be attributed to George or have any connection to him directly and that's why I felt maybe I should have posted it elsewhere.  When I first posted it, I only keyed on the words "political causes" in this section, without thinking about people inadvertently connecting this to him but it didn't seem right to put it in Party in the Kitchen.

This part of the forum is for George's causes and political efforts, so I don't want confusion created regarding his consent or agreement on the points made above.

@Lighterside, I think this thread is a good place to post it. Mazy also mentioned it, it is kind of connected to George as he is an Obama supporter. You posted it in the right place where the letter gets the right attention  

And if you look at the thread there are lot of other thinks posted about Russia for example which is also not directed linked to George but because of his support to the Ukraine it is kind of connected...if you know what I mean. So I think it is ok

Thanks Nicky for the confirmation. I just wanted to make sure that it was clear my intention wasn't to put words in George's mouth. He has enough going on in his life without anyone else adding to the flames, if you know what I mean. LOL

Hahaha! I remember years ago a stand up comedian making the same point. He asked if it was wrong to kill an unborn baby but right to kill a convict, at what age is it ok to start killing people.

On another note, I've just finished reading Colleen McCullough's (sp) Master's of Rome series of books and while it's a brilliant read (I'm a big fan of the Romans), it's made me incredibly depressed about our future. In effect, the conservatives in the government would rather let Rome fail than allow single men stand up and run the state effectively (but to the occasional detriment of the conservatives). The series covers about 100 years of history, ending in the assassination of Julius Caesar, and if any of us think that we as humans have moved on in any way since then, then we're fooling ourselves. We see it again and again in all countries through all ages that the leaders addicted to power are unable to make decisions for the good of all and thereby sow the seeds of failure for their whole country and no one can make them see that they're heading towards their own destruction.

EXACTLY...Cue the present day Republican Party vs. President Obama who has done nothing if not try to compromise with them to get our country moving forward but they would rather "burn the house down" than cooperate with him on ANYTHING.....and that includes destroying us in the process.  But they're not racist...no, no, no don't call them that!  What other explanation could there be since he's done more for THEM than he has for the rest of the 99%!  If you notice, the Stock Market is HIGHER than ever before!  So what's their beef with him? Color!  Too bad for him that he didn't look more like his mother and we wouldn't be having this conversation.

They will deliver whatever the Koch Brothers and the rich bastards on Wall Street want or they will die trying...how's that for a faux democracy in action!  We actually had one of the 1%'ers on record as saying he didn't think "the little people" should be allowed to vote, afterall, it's the rich who drive this economy!  But he forgot to mention that where they're driving it is right into the ground...but don't worry, their money will be safely hidden in foreign banks, so what do they care? The richest corporations in America are reportedly keeping a couple TRILLION dollars they refuse to reinvest here, in overseas banks.

Lighterside - I agree with everything you've said, but lighten up - you're going to give yourself an ulcer! Political movements in this country tend to run in cycles and the pendulum swings back and forth (albeit slowly).

New York, for example, just elected a very progressive mayor after 12 years of Bloomberg's business first capitalism. I don't know how things will change, but I know that they will, hopefully for the better for the "little people". Just hang in there and do what you can to effect change.

From one of the little people, have to encourage everyone to vote in the next election even though it's is not a presidential one. It is time to start voting them out in 2014 and finish the job in 2016. Just my 2 cents; just 2 cents isn't worth anything anymore.

Lizzy I don't need to "lighten up"...I'm quite calm and cheerful thank you but not I'm blind and you'll be talking out of the other side of your mouth, if the Republicans do indeed take over the Senate, as they retain control of the House which they will most certainly do, if everyone remains complacent about the political future of this country...and that's all I'm going to say about that.

Do you have any idea how much they could destroy the Middle Class in 12 years?  And impeachment of President Obama as well as complete repeal of the ACA will most certainly be their first orders of business should that occur.

You don't have to listen to me, just take a good hard look at every state where the Republicans have taken over the State Houses since 2010 and the impact that's had on women's rights and voting rights, not to mention the social safety net they're trying to completely decimate for the poor and let's not forget they don't like public education. Which means, if they get control of enough states, public education as we know it will cease to be.

Lighterside - You'll get no argument from me. I wasn't being sarcastic or making light of your concerns - I agree with all of what you said. And far from being complacent, I keep as informed as I can and do what I can. You just seemed so upset by it all , and that doesn't accomplish anything but make you unhappy. If you are "quite calm and cheerful", then God bless and keep on fighting the good fight, but please don't fight with me. We're on the same side.

@ Lizzy......   I assure you that while I'm very passionate about politics, I'm certainly far from being upset or unhappy.  And I'm very happy to hear that you keep up on things and actively participate in the political process, as well.   Too many people in this country keep their heads in the sand and then one day, wake up to find they don't have the convenience of early voting anymore or clinics for poor women to have cancer screenings and affordable birth control, or head start programs for poor inner city children and lunch programs for the same underprivileged kids, public education or equal rights for anyone who isn't a white "straight" male, etc.  

If you have ever read anything on the proposed budget from Paul Ryan, you would understand my concern about the complacency of the American public and it will be too late to change course, if the GOP gets it's way this election cycle.  The damage that's already being done at state level is nothing compared to what they could do controlling both Houses of Congress.

@Lighterside - Amen! I might be a little more optimistic than you are due to the changes I see here and the degree of involvement of the people here, but I also think things are beginning to change on the national level, too - very, very slowly.

I am not fooling myself that the Republicans wouldn't bring our country down if they could, but I think the more rational leaders of their party are beginning to realize they've gone too far. I hope so. In the meantime, we keep fighting.

@Lighterside - PS- When I said we keep fighting I didn't mean us! I meant that together we keep fighting them.  

@Lizzy...unfortunately for us, the whole country doesn't seem to follow the progressive states unless we drag them kicking and screaming! LOL  I pray that you're right and believe me when I say that I pray daily for America to wake up before it's too late to turn the tide.  Karl Rove is already bragging that they will take the Senate this time and I fear he may be right.  It was only the lunatic fringe candidates like Christine O'Donnell and Sharron Angle that kept them from getting control the last time around. God help us, if the recent Florida election is any kind of a bellwether of the upcoming election.  We may all find that we're back in 1950's and I don't mean that in a good way!  

@Lighterside - OK, now I'm getting depressed! There's only so much reality I can take in one day, and I think I've reached my limit. I do remain hopeful that somehow things will improve, but who knows. As Scarlett O'Hara said, "Tomorrow is another day"., and maybe things will seem better in the morning.

   Oh sorry Lizzy...don't tell me that I have to remind you to "lighten up" now! LOL JK...JK!!  It's good to remain informed but as I said, emotionally separated from it. We do, what we can do...and that's all anyone can expect!

No need for any of us to get up-set we just have to get loud. Soon it will be time to start promoting voting. The thing is to get as many people out to vote as possible in 2014 so that there is a good head-start when 2016 comes around. We have to start to VOTE them out. I will be on twitter much more with a lot of company. There are many individuals and groups there that will be doing the same thing. This did a lot of good for PBO in the last election. He has a grass-roots group OFA (Organization For Action) and we would push on the sames issues at the same time in team work.

There are quite a few groups that are united for blue.

Exactly Mazy, we have to shout loud enough to wake the sleeping giant, that is the American population and make them realize that the way we would like to live our future and our children's futures are most definitely under attack and the only meaningful way to fight back is at the ballot box.
