George Clooney: I'm not just a hunk

The 52-year-old actor has always been considered a Hollywood heartthrob and is even lovingly nicknamed 'Gorgeous George' by his fans [really? - katiedot].  While he realises he has many admirers, the star is keen to show there's a more practical side to him, which makes him the perfect man to have around the house.

"I'm more than just a pretty face!" he laughed to German magazine TV Movie.  "Just the other day I changed the fan belt on my friend's car."

Rather than learning these skills from a male friend or relative, it was George's mother who taught him how to become a dab hand at DIY.

"At 60 years old she completely retiled our roof and asked for a circular saw for her birthday,” he laughed.

The star's latest project is The Monuments Men, which also features Matt Damon and Cate Blanchett.

It's a comedy take on the true story of a WWII platoon whose mission it is to rescue artwork stolen by Nazi thieves.
George co-wrote, directed and stars in the feature.

"I am really sorry that Germans have had to play Nazis for 75 years. That must get annoying after a while," he apologised.  "But it's about a mission that at first seems impossible. It just sounded like a great story."

George might be on the other side of 50, but he's not worried about ageing.  The handsome star doesn't beat himself up about wrinkles and feels content with himself.

“I’m used to it and I’m happy in my own skin,” he previously shrugged.  “There’s nothing more embarrassing than when you pretend to be one of the young ones. However, it does make me feel very good about myself when I can beat younger guys at basketball! I’ve also learnt how to make fun of my age – even in front of loads of other people.”
