Taking photos on the set of ‘The Monuments Men’ in Berlin was a real adventure. It took some time before George Clooney showed up, so I decided to take few shots of the actors and extras present at the scene. It was a nice, warm and sunny day in June. The extras for the movie were all waiting along the Spreekanal (the water around the Museum Island), until it was their time to come into action.
Today I open up the digital vault of Shuttereyeimages ;-), sharing with you an array of unique and unpublished photos, that will bring you back in time, to be precise: to the year 1945, the end of World War II, Berlin – Germany. I hope you like the monochrome vintage rendering style of them.
The photos were taken in June 2013, at the Berlin movie set of ‘The Monuments Men’ featuring George Clooney (Frank Stokes), Matt Damon (James Granger) Bill Murray (Richard Campbell), Cate Blanchett (Claire Simone) among the others.
About “The Monuments Men” movie
Based on the true story of the greatest treasure hunt in history, The Monuments Men is an action drama focusing on an unlikely World War II platoon, tasked by FDR with going into Germany to rescue artistic masterpieces from Nazi thieves and returning them to their rightful owners. It would be an impossible mission: with the art trapped behind enemy lines, and with the German army under orders to destroy everything as the Reich fell, how could these guys – seven museum directors, curators, and art historians, all more familiar with Michelangelo than the M-1 – possibly hope to succeed? But as the Monuments Men, as they were called, found themselves in a race against time to avoid the destruction of 1000 years of culture, they would risk their lives to protect and defend mankind’s greatest achievements. The Photos
