As per Amuserato's suggestion below:  Fantasise away ladies about how you would enjoy this date with George !!!

Hmm, I think this is more to ensure that pro-Sudan protesters don't get in.

Assuredly. And good on them for vetting the list--- wouldn't do to bring bad press to a truly good cause with some flap.  As it says "finalists" there will be have been winnowing happening right along, I imagine.  The winner will have a dead tree's worth of paperwork to review and sign, I am sure.

Hey Katie-- suggestions for location of a thread for those who want to indulge in a bit of harmless fantasy regarding our winning the golden choccie and getting the Wonka tour without interrupting the newsy bits here?
Thanks!

Underwear?!?!! Who the heck wears underwear when out with George Clooney? Isn't that breaking some kind of rule or something?

I might be the only one who thinks this is a fantasy date already! Just the kind I like, all business and other people involved. Hardly chance to say Hello to a date! Sounds perfect ! (I´m serious)

Woof.

A. How the hell did I miss this topic when my name is taken in vain in the first post? And
B. maybe I should start a new topic line to reinvigorate some fun musing here because it is impossible to elaborate on outfit ideas after words like "crimes against humanity" and "atrocities" (and I don't mean the what folks wore to the Grammy's.. but now that you mention it..)
I was all set to detail that fantasy "date" and ya'll went nuclear serious on me...

please do not take offense should you be of a mind-- the issues are, indeed, deadly serious. I was just looking to keep that discussion in the political thread, and at our dinner table, and President Obama's dinner table, and do a little light hearted playing here.

Post by amuserato Mon 27 Jan 2014, 02:16

Thanks, LornaDoone

So, first up. You have opened the candy bar and found the golden choccie wrapper-- the tour of the Wonka factory is yours, Charlie! Time to pull Grandpa out of bed and head to the Big Apple! In other words, your email has been drawn and you have received notice that you and a friend are going to New York (and you have agreed to the perquisite nondisclosure-they-can-trade-on-your-name-relinquishment-of-some-of-your-rights lawyer-y lingo. You and your friend have been collected, inspected, psychologically tested and from all liability, now and henceforward, indemnified. You have flown from wherever worldwide (you DO have a passport don't you?) and are wheels down singing Chuck Berry at JFingK...or LaGuardia, depending. You have moved up "handling" ladder from the juniors to the person with the clipboard, bluetooth headset and latte in hand (for them, not you) You are now an thing to be managed, a codeword, a package... to get safely from point A to point B and through event 1 to event 3 ...and lord help all PR people and bless their rapidly beating anxious hearts ...you are a potential loose cannon on deck. Hallelujah sister or brother. Now it is time for some fun! (but bring your coat, 'cause, baby, it is COLD outside this time of year in the city that never sleeps)

Topics?
What would you wear? How does that figure into how you present yourself-- beyond the rarified and falsified atmosphere of formal gown or tux, I mean. This is harder than you think! I know from experience heading to a Clooney event. Like what do you wear to "backstage at Letterman" (after is easy: Melbert or I would be wearing jailhouse stripes!)

What would you hope the promised stylist consult before the red carpet, premier and after-party would achieve? Would you let them doll you up? Could be fun, right?

You have a 10 minute limo ride from somewhere to somewhere with Clipboard Handler, Security Boy and His Nibs... the most convo you are going to have-- 'cause everything else is going to FLY by and consist mainly of "watch your step" "step this way" "don't forget to smile" and the like... and introductions. whatcha gonna say besides, "boy, is it cold, or what?"

Any takers on the topics? Very Happy

Great summary amuserato! So great I have barely nothing to add...let´s hope the winner doesn´t look like " a cow on the ice" on the red carpet. You know, can be a bit exciting for non professional who hasn´t done it before... just a thought of course... Cool

@ It's Me: Thank you for the compliment, ol' darling! If my humor conveyed (and didn't go over like the fabled lead balloon) mayhap if I won I would have a chance at a longer conversation -- as ANYONE would! You see, I think being funny-- but not trying TOO hard to be funny-- would be the key to having a regular good time at an event like this. NOT flirty and NOT taking yourself --or anything about the event portion of contest-- too seriously (but everything about the goal of the contest entirely seriously)
... and should you have an alternate agenda in mind (beyond the obvious never-to-be-disclosed-how-they-appeared-rug-burns-and-manacle-marks -- I am looking at you, Melbert), it is not too late to read Machiavelli and Sun Tzu..
You want a conversation? Have a strategy.
('cause unless you have done some mental prep and/or are John Kabt Zinn and wrote the book on Mindfulness or you are a cool, calm and collected cookie immune to star sprinkle like LornaDoone, your mind IS going to be mush but your tongue? Your tongue, heedless of the absence of higher brain function, is going run line like a wild marlin with no brake on that reel.

Oh gosh, Carla97, I hope that you-- and others-- have things to add!

Ha ha! "cow on ice" is a great description! I resemble that remark.
Besides the fact that we are heading into fantasy mode and we all look the best possible there in fantasyland -- the reality is, that the professionals who will be dealing helping the winner get ready really do know what they are doing and Clooney himself has proven to be totally gracious to those he meets and, seems to me, would do his utmost to make the winner(s) as comfortable as he could.

So, to crux of the red carpet matter... you, the winner, and your friend (remember that friend? We seem to have lost her/him somewhere in the conversation) have had your hair poodled and your nails and face doodled up and a rack of dresses (or tuxes) pulled for you to peruse. You are offered shoes and spanx (not "spanked" Melbert) -- spandex controlling undergarments... more tools of the patriarchy... designed to hold things in and push things up and generally quash any jiggle and squash digestive organs such that if you fart? You will blow your shoes off. But they are darned useful for one-offs like a red carpet trot. You have, in fact, been made radiant in the style of such things, while still being yourself. (ironically, only to realize you must break your standard policy of not hanging out with folks who are, like, loads more attractive than you are and, well, merde il pleut, you must follow one of the most ethereally beautiful people on the planet...
Bill Murray.
(you thought I was going to say Cate Blanchett, didn't you? you know... tall, graceful, luminous intellect... g-darned Galadriel, for god's sake. Yes, yes. She is beyond beautiful. But Bill? Bill is amazing.)

Anyway, that all is going to be fine. But what about the rest? (My smart self-assured daughters and I couldn't have been more girly when it came to the confab on "what to wear" when we went to the "Good Night and Good Luck" Newseum event, but opted to be simply ourselves, of course, sweaters and jeans... after all revealing evening wear would have been a tad out of place in a lecture hall... not that everyone got that memo... but we were astonished at how much primping and perfuming occurred. The bathroom at the Newseum has probably never seen so much powder... couldn't see the funny slogans on the wall for the anti-aging mist and the Clinique radiance particulate cloud... and what do you know? My clear headed, regular ol' girls actually got a chat and a photo! Lesson: be yourself, I think.)
So, knowing that the photo op time will be well taken care of --what do you wear to be you the rest of the time? Me? I would wear what makes me feel strong and good. So, a smile.
(no, Melbert, not JUST a smile. Did I mention it was cold in NYC? Brutally damp cold... like Scotland-in-summer cold?)
Enthusiasm is often the loveliest accessory.
and, as usual, I would wear that which is comfortable has been complimented on me in the past 'cause there ain't no spanx out there that will grow me into a young, tall, skinny chick.. So black slacks and boots and a coat of mystery and with soupçon of pensiveness not overegged into ennui. And scarves. Scarves from the hand made or fair trade section of my shop. Aubergine sets off my green eyes without making them creepy...Color is powerful.
(and scarves are warm. Chattering teeth are not charming)

How about you? What color makes you feel confident?

Clipboard Chick does not hand out chocolate... but one snap of her more-powerful-than most, manicured fingers and not just chocolates appear, but WHOLE chocolate COMPANIES come a'running 'cause she dines on the tastiest morsel on the regular: access. She has access to the top tier divinity in the firmament: peeps like the Cloonster and those companies decidedly would love to be choccie Clooney prefers!
I suggest, dearest Minis, that you bring your own chocolates or somesuch goody, preferably homemade or local, and share some with CC (Clipboard Chick)... and Security Boy... and Limo Driver. These are the folks that can facilitate more time for conversation... or whatever.

Oh, IM, the coral!!
I know, I know. Black is the new black in Manhattan. Plus ça change and all that, but coral would be so lovely against the basic blue of New York... a standout.
(Isn't it funny how cities have their own colors and light? The limestone griege and copper patina of Paris... the chalk white of Santorini... oyster grey and pearly mist of London...turquoise and sand of Nice...the bold glass of Berlin... the pink and terra cotta of Florence... NYC, especially Manhattan, is a straightforward blue.

Shoes too? Lovely to contemplate amongst the navy of suits from mid-town and down and amid the black beswathed ladies on fifth!

Now see, Mellie, that there is the reaction that is wanted! (but apologies for the peed pants and the mussed screen and/or keyboard. Me, I am crying over the thought of the loss of the precious manna-from-heaven-lifeblood-o-mine that is coffee. I should have remembered that warning label NSFU (not safe for upholstery) suggested by LornaDoone ages ago. )

You haven't told us what you would wear nor detailed your date! What are planning, oh partner in Letterman crime? (Actually, best behave at the Late Show backstage portion, because as odious as it may be to hold one's tongue, iffn you are planning on a show later or holding anything or much to do with tongues, better stay out of jail...)

Ya'll do know Mr. Clooney-- and crew--would be perfectly safe and untouched with me, right? Should I win, unless Melbert volunteers, I am taking my high school sweetheart, my husband of nearly 30 years,Mr. Musie as my plus one, remember? He is of unsurpassed indulgent sweetness, but is, as of yet, unwilling to share!
I cannot vouch for conditions should Melbert's email pop up...but I imagine NYC will be a lot warmer with her there in proximity to George!

If you happen to decide you are going to NYC anyway just to hang out with the peanut crunching crowd behind the rope lines at the premiere, we love staying at the Dream Hotel on 55th and Broadway (amazing lobby w/aquarium columns which I originally thought were Chihuly glass! also a fun bar on the top floor)
anyway, not far from the premiere if it is, indeed, at the Ziegfeld theater... but mostly cause it is not far from the Museum of Modern Art -- and who does not want to lay one's head down on pillows and dream like Rousseau's gypsy of Van Gogh's starry night always shining mere blocks away...

He would be safe with me too. I am bringing along an older friend and Clooney fanatic like myself. She and I together are going to make sure we don't grab him and plant a big ol' kiss on those lips of his. Or will we? LOL Nah, I'll settle for a firm handshake and a fan picture! I love George Clooney, as we all do.  Seesaw of good and e Sofa bounce Sofa bounce Hoorah! Hoorah! Cheerleader Cheerleader sadomach1 sadomach1 Wheee! Wheee!
