I can't wait to see it too!  My son actually WANTS to go see it with me! He is a huge history buff, and I have kept him up to date on this movie, since he knows I am a big GC fan(and I knew he would love the truth behind the story of the movie).  I just hope whoever wins the contest is of course, a GC fan, but also truly appreciates the true meaning behind the film.

Love love love behind the scenes stuff.

Soooo much camera footage, must cause sleepless nights deciding what to put in and cut...even at this stage in the game, but that's true of everything, you always doubt, that's human.
At some point you have to say "Let it be".   

That's a great set of videos showing behind the scenes.
I love those even though it destroys the illusion of the actual film.

having a chat.

 A year has gone by very quickly, like in flight and I can't await, after following all the making-off, to finally watch the movie.

This latest behind-the-scenes featurette has arrived online for writer-director-star George Clooney’s ‘The Monuments Men,’ which is set for February 7th in the US and February 14th in the UK. Co-written by Grant Heslov, the film’s stellar cast also includes Matt Damon, Bill Murray, Cate Blanchett, Jean Dujardin, Bob Balaban, Hugh Bonneville and John Goodman. Based on the book ‘The Monuments Men: Allied Heroes, Nazi Thieves and the Greatest Treasure Hunt in History’ by Robert M. Edsel, the film concerns the story of the “Monuments, Fine Arts, and Archives program, an Allied group, tasked with saving pieces of art and other culturally important items before their destruction by Hitler during World War II.

The true action-thriller focuses on an unlikely World War II platoon, tasked by FDR with going into Germany to rescue artistic masterpieces from Nazi thieves and returning them to their rightful owners. It would be an impossible mission: with the art trapped behind enemy lines, and with the German army under orders to destroy everything as the Reich fell, how could these guys – seven museum directors, curators, and art historians, all more familiar with Michelangelo than the M-1 – possibly hope to succeed? But as the Monuments Men, as they were called, found themselves in a race against time to avoid the destruction of 1000 years of culture, they would risk their lives to protect and defend mankind’s greatest achievements.

While the Nazi plundering was being carried out, Rose Valland began secretly recording as much as possible of the more than 20,000 pieces of art brought to the Jeu de Paume Museum. Valland kept it secret from the Germans that she understood German. In fact, she never formally studied this language, but some trips in Germany in the 1920s and 1930s had helped her to get a good grasp of a then widely used scholarly language. For four years she kept track of where and to whom in Germany the artworks were shipped and risked her life to provide information to the French Resistance[2] and about railroad shipments of art so that they would not mistakenly blow up the trains loaded with France's priceless treasures. The museum was visited by high-ranking Nazi officials and Valland was there when Reichsmarschall Hermann Göring came on 3 May 1941 to personally select some of the priceless stolen paintings for his own private collection.[1]
A few weeks before the Liberation of Paris, on 1 August 1944, Valland learned that the Germans were planning to ship out five last boxcars full of art, including many of the modern paintings which they had hitherto neglected. She notified her contacts in the Resistance, who prevented the train from leaving Paris. The train was subsequently liberated by the French Army.[1]
